Cahill and the Derby

Comments (17)

Just Moyes' stubborness in playing Cahill all the time, when the lad clearly needs a rest. He played right-wing yesterday when Gosling, who at least provides us some width and balance to the midfield, should have played instead.

I'm not sure if he should play in the derby now. Yes, his leadership and tenacity would be valuable, but he is so tired and would not be as effective.

Positives for the derby are we finally have our two best wingers back! So, if they're playing, I do think we have a chance against the shite. The second half performance was encouraging so we can take that into the game.

Just a thought of the team, mine might be something like this.

Howard Neill, Yobo, Distin, Baines Billy, Heitinga, Rodwell, Pienaar Fellaini Saha

I think this is a good starting eleven, because we'll be matching Liverpool's midfield, and Cahill can a deserved rest, and can be a useful impact player, as well as Yakubu. It's still a strong team, only Arteta and Jagielka would get in the team out of our injured players at the moment. But the main question is Cahill or Fellaini, and I'd pick Fellaini, solely because he'd be fitter, and hopefully if they have Glen Johnson injured, and that Kyrgiakos plays, Fellaini can stifle him as much as possible!!

It's a long shot but I definitely think we can win this game, COYB!!

I cannot believe that you would not play Cahill in what is going to be a high tempo game. Cahill will without a doubt be more key than Fellaini ever would be, Cahill has the knack of niggling the redshite players, but more importantly of scoring crucial goals. I just think we may well see that corner flag taking some shit this weekend.

I almost agree. I’d have Heitinga right back, put Fellaini in defensive midfield ( his natural position ) and start with the Yak up front.

Moyes will play Cahill though, defo in a 4-5 1.

How we need a win on Sunday !

The Official site is reporting that Rodwell and Saha are doubts now!! Christ on a bike!!!

I guess substitute Cahill For Rodwell and Yakubu for Saha in your line up Ben.

I hope this is just mind games in response to ladyboy’s late fitness test!

If Rodwell and Saha pass their fitness tests I would play

Howard
Neill Yobo Heitinga Baines
Cahill Rodwell Bilyletdinov Pienaar
Fellaini
Saha

With Bily and Pienaar swapping if necessary.

For fuck's sake, guys we ain’t gonna win. No matter who plays, none of them are good enough. Apart from Saha & Pienaar, who have we got to unlock the door? We couldn’t unlock it against Stoke, Burnley, Hull, Wolves, Fulham, twated 5-0, 6-1, 3-0 already this season, and again I fear the worst.

Of course we have a chance of winning this derby if only because that’s exactly what it is. The reds are also up the wall and if we don’t get anyone sent off we can match there current mediocrity with our own. Chances are Gerrard will play with injections and possibly Torres for a half but given we have gotten our bad stuff out of the way in recent games then we have a shot at beating them especially if it’s a Saha shot!.

Fellaini and Bily will be fresh and Peanuts probably needed the Hull game to sharpen up. Having said all that we need Fellaini to watch his tackles and we need a referee who isn’t going to make controversy and above all we need to play for 90 minutes and not just the second half.

Considering our ability to line the team up I suspect it might be something like this...

Hibbert
Yakubu Saha Jo Cahill
Howard Heitinga Gosling Yobo
Billy

Deal with that, Rafa!

Martin Cutler, Could not agree more. We badly need a win, and what better time, and place, after the let-downs of recent games.

What has sickened most of us in games against the Sky 4 particularly the RS has been our lack of spirit sometimes called fight. There is only one player on our books upon which we can absolutely guarantee will provide that kind of spirit in full measure. To think of dropping him for this derby would be the act of a madman.

I have the pleasure/misfortune (delete where applicable) of playing in a charity game that is to be officiated by our good friend Mr Poll... Am I right in thinking that it was said referee who disallowed Don Hutchinson's excellent (well off his back) finish against Liverpool some years back?

Also a list of his other misdemenaours against the blues would be welcome. I can discuss these with him after the game. Many thanks... Oh and sack the board... I know we are not Tottenham but seriously they have less ambition than the Liberal democrats.
