Don't worry about Moyes

Don't worry about Moyes. He knows better than most the hole Everton FC find themselves in.

We can only speculate on the true state of our finances, injuries, team spirit etc. David Moyes knows with certainty what his budget is for the January transfer window and our debt, the extent of Arteta, Vaughan, Victor, Neville and Jagielka's injuries and what his relationship is with his players and the players' relationships with each other.

Moyes has been the best pound-for-pound Premier League manager in recent years. Not longer do we expect a relegation battle come April. We are more accustomed to challenging for Europe, winning and constantly punching above our financial weight and media expectation. Everton FC has been good for Moyes's reputation and stature in the game too.

It is widely regarded outside the club that he, like Rooney, deserves a bigger platform to push on and challenge for the biggest prizes. However, when attractive managerial vacancies arise, his name is always conspicuous by it's absence. This is because Everton were seen as a team on-the-up, well-run, big fanbase and great history. I think we can say with confidence we are neither on-the-up or well-run!

I think Moyes's patience with the board is at breaking point as many of the supporters' is with him. The question is not whether he will jump ship, but when? The problem he now faces is that the teams Everton are in direct competition with e.g. Aston Villa, Spurs, Man City, appear to have put their recent unrest behind them and leap-frogged us.

I think what Moyes will do is wait until the season ends and fill the boots of the deposed Mark Hughes at Man City. I don't think he can handle another season at Everton and would sooner succeed Hughes, corrupting his ambition of managing Man Utd forever, rather than try and get the best out of what he has with us and endure another embarrassing summer of inactivity.

So for everyone desperate for Moyes to resign, get the sack, whatever, I honestly feel this will be his last season with us. He may well turn it around over the next 6 months but without investment the best he can hope for is a top 8-9 finish in seasons to come. It's the best we can all hope for.

For what it's worth I can't see us attracting anything even close to a world class manager. If our best players come back and we see a serious improvement starting this weekend, I'd be disappointed to see him go.

I sense that the Kirkby decision will be a turning point for us.

The uncertainty is gone. The divide in the fanbase can now begin to heal.

Moyesie is already sounding more optimistic about buyers and investors. I think this whole sorry saga has been edating away at the Club and was probably responsible for the last 2 Summers of Transfer inertia s both times we were waiting on Kirkby decisions.

Kenwright has said Kirkby is closed.

Time for us all to move on, work together and achieve something. What better game than a Merseyside Derby at Goodison to get that ball rolling? Time for all of us - fans, manager, players and the Club’s hierarchy to roll up our sleeves and get stuck in to this season.

Amazing, absolutely amazing .... just how far does this IMWT shit go?

I’m not worried about Moyes, anyone on three million quid a year can afford to look after themselves ... what about the fuckin’ Club??

It goes on for a lot longer I hope Bryan.

We’re in a state right now, there’s no denying, but look at his track record and balance it against the injury/suspension crisis we’re in the middle of.

He’s the best manager we’ve had by a country mile and testament to that is the level of expectation we now collectively hold.

It’s a blip - albeit one that concerns us all - but you’ve got to take some rough with the smooth we’ve come to take for granted under his tenure.

And who, I wonder, might you fancy in his place?

Best manager - how? What exactly has this man won? In what way does his ’inspirational’ management lead the players to play some of the crapiest football, year after year, despite some of the talent he has under his wings???

A blip - there’s been a ’blip’ every season since he arrived. How much longer does this have to go on? In what way is a blip a year acceptable? What does this say about Moyes’s capacity to learn and grow as so many espouse here????

Alternatives - unfortunately for you and me - WE DO NOT GET TO APPOINT THE MANAGER - so we have no choice in the matter - who else is immaterial - the stuff of fantasy football - we have no say

There has never been "the smooth we’ve come to take for granted under his tenure" it’s fantasy

Well, Bryan, ’this man’ has ’won’ the Football Managers’ Association Manager of the Year award ’exactly’ three times since he’s been our manager. You have to give some recognition and credence to the judgment of his peers, don’t you?

Steve, the Football Managers' Manager of the Year award is a condescending meaningless bauble that goes to the man who appears to, but actually never threatens the big four. If it meant anything, Wenger would win it every year.

Why would Wenger win any award?

Based on the criteria used by many Toffeeweb users on Moyes, Wenger is a massive failure because he has not won anything in the last 4 years - and on a bigger budget too!

Bryan, we all want and expect the best? But have you been watching the rest of the league? With the exception of Arsenal, and on occasions, Man Utd and Chelsea, everyone else is playing crappy football.

"What exactly has this man won?" I’m trying to think what managers of other Premier League clubs have won in the same period — apart that is from the usual suspects in the usual four clubs! Moyes is the best manager we’ve had for many a day... who the hell would want a repeat of Gordon Lee, Mike Walker and Walter Smith? No thanks!

On an optimistic note, it could be the best thing to happen to us regarding ground move. I am now sensing from the soundings at EFC that monies were being held back from DM in order to finance new ground moves, this may now transform itself into big & better player transfer sealings.

WELL YOU CAN DREAM CAN’T YOU !!!

I suspect Moysie is rubbing his hands since the hammering of DK will release funds for a January spendfest.
Look forward to a new full-back or two arriving early doors!

We won't sign any player for cash in January. We might get one player in on loan, we need it on 1 January but no doubt we’ll wait until the last week of the transfer window.

Bryan:

* Best manager - how?
I think his recent track record speaks for itself doesn’t it? Europe, consistent top six finishes, the only team to break the top four monopoly, cup semi-finals and a final etc.

* A blip - there’s been a ’blip’ every season since he arrived. How much longer does this have to go on?
Which team doesn’t have a blip? And even when we do, we generally recover to finish on a high. A long-term perspective needed here surely?

* Alternatives - unfortunately for you and me - WE DO NOT GET TO APPOINT THE MANAGER - so we have no choice in the matter - who else is immaterial - the stuff of fantasy football - we have no say.
But if YOU want Moyes out, YOU have got to have a better alternative. That’s no answer - or solution! Who do you think would be better? No fantasising allowed!

* There has never been "the smooth we’ve come to take for granted under his tenure" it’s fantasy.
No it isn’t. It’s fact: look at our track record over the last five seasons.

All I would say to everyone who wants Moyes out is how, and with whom, would that improve the situation?

Yes, we’re in a mess right now, but we all know why. With the likes of Smith, Walker and many of those who have been in charge of our team for the last 40 years, there was no reason for optimism at all.

With David Moyes, it’s different. He’s building a good team to challenge the moneyed megalomaniacs who currently monopolise our game. Sadly he’s fighting with one hand tied behind his back right now. Did you want him out at the end of last season? I suggest not?

All we need to do is learn to defend again and pass to one another. Simple!

At the moment, Moyes is not the main issue really - the Board is. Until matters are resolved at that level in the wake of the DK decision a change of manager would make no sense.
I like Moyes & have some respect for the man, he deserves credit for what he’s achieved - but much of the criticism he receives is also pretty valid too. If & when he does go I doubt it will be difficult to replace him - the problem is whether his replacement is likely to be much the same & operating under the same constraints, thereby rendering the change rather pointless but very expensive. At a time when we may see instability at Board level it would be unwise to also have instability elsewhere.

By the way, whoever said we don’t want to see a repeat of Gordon Lee — I take it that was a wicked joke at Moyes's expense!

We didn’t win the Cup Final and we are now in a parlous state regarding our European adventure. Should AEK beat us then we could be going out of the Europa League too. And that would be massively disappointing for all of the work Moyes has done.

However, until he gives us a team that is prepared to attack then he will forever get the brickbats he deserves.

I don’t like David Moye’s negative tactics and I’m sure I’ve wished him gone at times but, seriously, how can anybody wish him out? He has improved Everton’s performances and league positions significantly since he came and done so under budget restrictions and under the atmosphere of fear that the premiership induces. By that I mean his number one target is survival not appreciation for good football. To use what he wins as a judgement criteria is also crazy as Everton, like 18 other clubs, are not going to win trophies in the premiership. As many have said who do you replace him with? The chances are that a panic sacking or Moyes walking could result in an implosion at the club followed by relegation and no limit on how low we could eventually go. I believe that a change of manager in the middle of a crisis like we are going through would do nothing for Everton even if it was Alex Ferguson. Like Moyes or not he is what we have and he needs to see this crisis through. We should be fair and judge him at the end of the season based on how he recovers from the hole we are in now. Moyes is rated very highly in the game and we sometimes criticise him unfairly and usually emotionally in the absence of all necessary information.
