The Mail Bag

Holding on to our hero

Comments (12)

So... last year — 5th pace and an FA Cup Final appearance. Not bad for a team of our meager means and antiquated stadium. Moyes, again, turned brass into gold — a squad light on top-eight talent was made to play, and compete, with some of the biggest spenders in the world of football.

Mr Moyes could, justifiably, look at last season as the pinnacle of what can be achieved at Goodison. He could walk away — he's obviously a talented manager; he could cite the lack of transfer funds and the lack of a plan for future growth, now that the Kirkby plan has hit the buffers.

The thing is, I still feel optimistic. I expect our season to turn around; next year, I expect things to go better and I'll be on the train down from Scotland as often as I can to see Everton, in the main, perform.

This is all down to Mr Moyes, a man of integrity and talent who obviously loves the club and the fans. Yes, his selections piss me off sometimes, and I rekon he can be a bit cautious — but he gives me hope and makes me proud.

How the fuck do we manage to keep him?

Yeah, but where will it improve to? Do you expoect us to finish 4th again — no fucking chance, bud. None.

We can only go backwards coz everyone else is investing and going forwards.

Jem, if you can gain any optimism from watching Everton this season and think you've seen enough to state that, come the New Year all in the garden will be rosy and we’ll be back challenging... then, my friend, you should've gone to Specsavers!!!!

You're talking from your heart and not your head mate. I don't want to be full of optimism, I want to be confident we're gonna come away from a game with 3 points and a good display of football.

Wow Jem, were you and Doddy seperated at birth? Also, a man of integrity hey, funny how he never signed on the dotted line, until he was offered a bumper pay packet.

Jem you need to steer clear of the Buckfast mate. DM plays percentage football, well the biggest percentage of football on offer this season has been relegation candidate fodder and utter shite. Overly defensive against home bankers like Hull, Stoke, Burnley, Bolton and Wolves, we played dross football and paid the price. The table doesn’t lie, injuries or not, we will not finish in the top half this season.

Why bother — Moyes is so negative and we are playing shite football. 7 years and nothing. I for one couldn't give a toss if Moyes moves on and who do you think would have him?

I’m not in any rush to see the back of Moyes, but I don’t see it as a disaster for the club if he does move on. Moyes is not irreplaceable. His run as Everton manager is second in terms of longevity only to Catterick so a change might be healthy for both parties.

However, I can’t see Moyes leaving any time soon - the club can’t afford to sack him, unless he looks likely to get us relegated; no other club is likely to try to head-hunt Moyes, as indicated by the lack of interest whilst his contract talks were stalled last year.

Moyes is unlikely to walk as he has too much pride, he’s already indicated this recently, although if the majority of supporters turned against him it might make him think twice.

Considering the club may well be entering a period of instability at Board level, it’s probably not the best time to even consider replacing the manager.

Jem, you ask " How the fuck do we manage to keep him?".

That’ll be the £65,000 a week. Let’s face it if you’ve got a job on that wage with NO comeback should you fail to deliver, anyone would stick around.

Tell you what though, it might be nice if he didn’t SULK so much with that kind of a deal, eh!

Idiotic post - Have you actually watched Everton this season?

We are currently as bad as any team Walter Smith put out. And that was bad! The sooner Everton are rid of Moyes the better!
