Terry — a left back's best friend

Comments (16)

Whilst you've got to laugh at the mess John Terry seems to have caused it suddenly dawned on me that, all things being equal, Bainesy must now be a nailed on certainty for understudy to Ashley Cole at the World Cup.

Capello won't drop Terry and Bridge won't go cos of the unrest it would cause to the rest of the squad. So... after a slow start, Leighton just needs to keep his current consistency levels and he can look forward to a South African summer.

Back to Terry - are there any comical songs being formulated for his impending visit to Toffee Towers?

Err... South African summer? Methinks that's what they are having now. June/July is winter down there...

Left back is a tough position to nail down for England, there are lots of good English left backs; Cole, Bridge, Baines, Warnock etc so Baines must perform consistently at his best to get in the squad. It’s a bit unfortunate that we have a number of good left backs, but then only really Glen Johnson at right back, with little competition.

From what I’ve seen of Baines this season, the only thing consistent about him has been his inconsistency.

He’s a very good attacking full-back on his day — but there have been half a dozen performances this season where he’s been nowhere near his best and a couple when he’s been a liability.

If Hibbert would have been making the same mistakes Baines has been (losing the ball in dangerous areas, not clearing the first man from dead ball situations, ball watching and over-committing himself against quicker wide players) there would have been an outcry.

I say again, Baines on his day looks an all-round accomplished full back with a touch of class about him — unfortunately, his head doesn’t seem right for some reason and, wherever his head has gone, his feet have followed...

What’s Baines’ missus like? Does he need to be careful?

Weren’t the Burnley fans chanting "same old Terry, always cheating"

Most people will have got this text already but it made me laugh:

Capello’s just phoned Wayne Bridge up and said, "I’ve spoken to John Terry and he’s lost the captain’s armband. Do me a favour and have a look under your bed!"

Capello preferred Warnock to Baines last time and may decide that Lescott can cover there... if he is fit that is.

Baines produced a rare good corner versus Wigan but his free kick straight into the wall, which caused the breakaway for the Birmingham goal, helped us knocked out of the cup and I think the other goal came from his side.

He is a decent enough club player but lacks consistency and I would fear he would be out of his depth in the World Cup, we have had similar left backs in the past, decent club players like Hinchcliffe, Ablett, Bailey but not great players.

I thnk it would be highly immature of the Goodison faithful to direct abuse at John Terry.

Though Z-Cars can take a break for one game and the teams should walk out to this...

Ha ha! Nick I would love it if they they play that tune as he’s warming up, with photo montage of Terry on the big screen.

As for Baines, I can’t really blame him for either of the Birmingham goals, they were the fault of Distin getting lost and then the midfield not tracking back fast enough.

I like him. He’s got international left back written all over him for me.

England shouldn’t take a back-up left-back assuming there are no worries over Ashley Cole’s fitness. Its a waste of a squad position with Gareth Barry there.

Add that to the fact (well, my opinion) that of the potential back-ups (including Bridge) Baines is the best, and the criticism he’s recieved (talking about Kevin’s post really) is pretty much justified, then I reckon Barry’s probably a better left back than any of them.

I don’t think Baines has been that good in the last couple of games.

Chel-sea, wherever you may be Don’t leave your wife with John Terry...
His Dad deals coke And his Mum steals tea
He cried when he missed a penalty.

Chel-sea, wherever you may be
Don’t leave your wife with John Terry
He cannot shoot And he can’t fucking pass
But he’ll take your Mrs up the arse.

Here’s a suggestion — maybe needs a bit of refining:-
"Who shagged all the WAGs? Who shagged all the WAGs?
You John Terry, You John Terry, You shagged all the WAGS"

Ashley Cole has been done for doing 104 mph in a 40 zone, cops ask if Ash has an excuse for excessive speed? "Yeah, ive just heard John Terry’s car is outside MY house"

I wonder how many other people around the world are thinking they are coming here during summer?... It certainly won’t be sunshine and roses... Cape Town especially is very wet during winter...
