Another two years?

How reliable is the Daily Star? I saw this at 8:00 this evening over here. First story I saw about it. If it's true, you like?

About as reliable as John Terry’s moral compass mate.

Liverpool Echo and Daily Post websites both reporting that the contract has actually been signed. Thse two are more reliable than most sources and the Echo has quotes from a Saha representative.

Whilst the Star is very unreliable, they look like they have been lucky and got this right?

Yes the Daily Star were correct. Two year contract signed. If they got this story correct then the story of Jordan and Alex Reid adoping a baby from Haiti must be true. God love that kid!

Its worth popping over to the OS to read what Saha said about his reasons for staying. OK - he’s not going to be a poor man, but probably turned away potentially much higher offers. And we have kept him playing in a way that the Stretforders couldn’t (they really look after their players you know) so that he can be on the field to show what he can do.

Good lad. May he have two and a half wonderful seasons - at least.

How reliable is the Daily Star? Its not.

However, it turns out that they’ve got this one right. About time, this is a story that restores a tiny little bit of faith in the dirty, dirty business that is professional football.

I’ve mentioned before on here that Saha would be crazy to try to leave. Having found a club that appreciates him and where he can make a difference, the idea that he would jump ship to the first club that simply offered a fatter contract should have been ridiculous, but was, inevitably, a serious possibility. But actually, the best thing for him, us, and football as a whole was that he stayed where he was, felt part of something, and tried his heart out for the fans that have cheered him on during his rehabilitation from a difficult and injury plagued phase of his career.

Lots of fellow correspondents on ToffeeWeb seem to like to do down our club, criticise the chairman, accuse fellow fans of accepting less than the best, and continually tell us the team isn’t good, or stylish enough, but a moment like this makes it clear that there’s something about our club that is special.

There’s something about it that makes people want to stay. Donovan has talked about it, Saha has acted on it, and frankly, all the greedy cunts that have turned us down, or left us for more money elsewhere, seem to have pretty much got nothing but the money in return, whereas those who’ve stayed or signed have quickly realised what an incredible and privileged position they’re in to play for Everton Football Club.
