Changes for Chelsea

Comments (17)

With the up-comming game against Chelsea in midweek, I think Davey Moyes has now got to think about certain changes in the line up of our team.

The first concerns Fellaini. If he is injured and cannot play then I would suggest that Neville be moved to defensive midfield. However much he will not control the midfield, he will still have authority in his organisation of the troops. This then will leave open the rb position for Coleman to work with Donovan down the right flank.

Andy Crooks wrote somewhere that Coleman should get the right attacking midfield role and I also agree with this. If he were to assume the attacking right midfield role then I think that Donovan should take the central attacking midfield and drop Leon Osman. This would I think work out well against Chelsea in as much I can't see Donovan going missing like Leon does in big games and it would provide an attacking width on our right flank.

Second, I would give Saha a rest. I would give the Yak a full game and give him James Vaughan as a partner in a 4-4-2. James does the running or spadework and makes a niussance of himself in and around the box also works the channels (that cliche makes me sick as a parrot) so as to make space for the Yak to do his stuff.

I know many people may not agree with this, and it's only my humble but we have to do something and quick, if we are to save our season and qualify for next year's Europa. Lastly some heading practise for our Tim (humour...)

Moyes needs to act and act decisivley, freshen things up so to speak. But there lies the question...

What's the fucking point? After 8 years of Moyes I’m sick of it, The Moyes Apologists will say, well a cup final, 5th place in the league etc etc. So FUCKING what. There once was a time when actually winning silverware was something to applaud, not it’s a bloody cup final. Cardiff and Milwall have recently been to cup finals... need I say any more?

Sorry it’s just I still haven’t calmed down about the pathetic excuse for a performance on Saturday. Osman & Neville NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I’m still mad — and I’m a mild person!

I also think the players should run out to total fucking silence before wednesday’s game,to show the spineless twats what we think of Saturday’s performance. Can’t bear the thought of them thinking it’s all forgotten, and I await their response.

Why don’t the FA just award Chelsea the 3 points and add the extra +3 goals to their goal difference right now.

It will save us alot of money and time.

If anyone thinks were going to get anything other than Phil Neville’s "We can do it" piece in the Echo tomorrow then you are fucking stupid and deluded.

Moving Neville into midfield is about as predictable and daft a suggestion as possible.

Your ignorance and rants are completely unfounded. Football has moved beyond where Everton have a chance of competing, the Sky Four are vastly superior to us, and will always be.

People on here that say "I remember when...", and "I'm not satisfied with fifth", get a fucking grip — that is how it is!! Unless they introduce a rule on how many foreigners can play, or a wage cap, we will have to make do and if you don’t like it, stop watching it!!

Moyes thinks we played well !

He will play exactly the same system, style and players.

I just hope the result isn’t the same.

Erm, Chris, any other commandments? Maybe easier to publish a list of what we can comment on and what view you would like us to take.

Just on a managerial point, If I thought my team had played shit and let me, the fans and themselves down, I’d send out exactly the same team again in the next game. Their motivation should be off the scale wanting to put right what they did wrong. New players coming in wouldn’t feel the same pressure to perform.

On a slight aside:

"Andy Crooks wrote somewhere that Coleman should get the right attacking midfield role and I also agree with this"

I couldn’t disagree with this more. I’m sick of watching Everton teams playing defenders in midfield, and the promise Coleman has shown has been as a right back. Playing right midfield is not the same, at all. What’s given him success at right back is coming from deep on the overlap, even then he’s occasionally looked clumsy and taken the odd heavy touch when doing good things.

Some of the comments are shocking.

Yes ,we played poorly on Saturday and blew a great opportunity, but we were on a great run.

People moan that 5th isn’t good enough, well in fairness it is the best we are likely to achieve. Bearing in mind the EPL is probably the most competitve in the World, 5th is a great position and goal.

Everton have a great tradition, but stop living in the past and face facts. The top 4 is beyond us and now with Man City’s billions it will become a top 5. We don’t have cash to spunk on the best players and spirit, work ethic and team work will only take you so far.

BK would never sell EFC to dodgy foreign businessmen so unless a true Blue billionaire arrives keep backing the team, DM promised results would improve as and when players came back, he was correct.

We are due a win against a top 4 side, and have came close against Chelsea on a few occasions so let’s roar our hearts out and hope the players can do it!

Dave Southon,

And so say all of me!

@Mike Allison, As opposed from Saturday when playing Coleman at right attacking mid. What have we got to lose?

We saw the lad crucify the spuds, so if as I say play him at RB along with Dono at RM then you tell me is that not a positive situation in terms of an extremly, potentially, aggressive right side attacking force?

Jon I’m not sure what your middle bit means, but by all means I’d give him a go at right back. The time to do this was back to back home games vs Carlisle and Burnley when he’d just made his big positive impact though. Moyes missed the trick back there, to chuck him in against Chelsea now is a bigger risk.

To answer the question ’what have we got to lose?’ A football match, a huge scoreline, all our momentum and confidence and a promising young player’s confidence. Not that I’m saying we will, but they are things we have to lose.

Chris

Not this season are the top four superior. They have lost more games between then this season already than the whole of last season.

Why can Portsmouth a team full of free transfers and loanees languishing at the foot of the table beat Liverpool so easily in December, yet Everton who were nine games unbeaten with a muti-million pound squad full of internationals just surrender meekly.

John and Ciaran are right we all know the team that will play on Wednsday and we all know what the result will be.

The best se can hope for is to somehow scrape a draw and that is what the manager will play for.

Just pause a minute to think about Osman in a challenge with Essien, or Lampard or Ballack or any of the really hard men in Chelseas back line. Sends shudders down the spine, eh? Should Leon be picked for this game... or in fact any game, it would confirm my growing belief that Moyes is losing it.

Neville midfield, Hibbert if available RB, if not probably Heitaga, with Senderos coming in at the back. Bily in for Peanuts if his ban starts now, Osman in the middle with maybe just maybe the Yak up front.

Gotta keep positive dudes...

It’s gonna be tough no matter which squad we put out. We have seen the limit of how well we can play and it is nothing to glow about. Arteta will take a little longer and, now that Pienaar and Fellaini are out that leaves the door open for weak-kneed Osman to play from the outset yet again but you know he will struggle.

Chelsea will probably find a way to win. Our home record is poor and, unless we get a big defensive showing, we cannot stop them from grabbing a goal. Unlike the Cup Final, I hope we score very late instead of early but only if it’s a tie to that point. Mid-table is our true place and that’s where we will stay.T here is not enough consistency with many of the players.
