Southern Press?

Still smiling from ear to ear after the brilliant display last night! The antithesis of Saturday, but that's Everton for you is it not?

A couple of things:

First off, the hoofball issue. I was watching carefully when Chelsea played Arsenal on Sunday, and the only time - particularly in the first half - that Arsenal were hurting Chelsea was when they were playing balls over the Chelsea centre backs...

OK, maybe not 50 or 60 yard balls, but Chelsea's centre backs were all at sea when Arsenal were doing that. So maybe, just maybe, our coaching staff had noticed and deliberately used that tactic? Food for thought, as Moyes is always battered on here for lack of tactical awareness....

Secondly, these are the player ratings from today's Mail:

EVERTON (4-4-1-1): Howard 6; Neville 7, Heitinga 6, Distin 6, Baines 7; Donovan 8, Arteta 6 (Rodwell 74min), Osman 6, Bilyaletdinov 5 (Gosling 86); Cahill 6; Saha 7 (Senderos 90). Booked: Donovan.

Heitinga 6? Osman 6? Saha 7?

Doubt this guy even watched the match, and is typical of the Sky 4 press bollocks.

Well done Blues!!!!! As brilliant last night as we were shite on Saturday!!

Unfair on Osman but KL did miss the penalty.

Didn’t manage to make it up north last night for the game. But the highlights did show two long diagonal balls, Saha drops off Terry and Terry misses the ball compleatly. Allowing Saha to get shots in.

If Neville played as well as Saha, and better than Heitinga, then I’m afraid I’m going to have to call it a day with football as I certainly didn’t see it that way.

Thankfully, I ignore the press.

Not being funny here but from what I've seen (only the highlights on MotD) Neville was piss poor again — c’mon, Moyes, drop the players out of form and let others have a go to impress!

The Match of the Day commentator was as bad — talk about biased reporting?

Tom, the goal apart, Neville was pretty good from a defensive point of view but whether he was told by Moyes to hang back or whether it was just "business as usual", he offered very little support going forward down the right flank.

For the first goal, Donovan was forced to run it to the byline with two Chelsea defenders in attendance because Neville hadn’t shown for the overlap but he won the corner and the rest is history.

I don’t think Moyes will even consider dropping Neville in any of the next 4 games unless he’s forced to by injury or suspension to him or other players.

Alan Green aside, I think Everton get a pretty good press. Walter Smith, and I agree with all that was said, was consistently praised on MotD. The Sunday Times give a fine report on the City game. I actually think many Evertonians are very touchy regarding the press. We have been last on MotD so many times because we have turned out an awful lot of turgid shit.

As a hack myself (non sports) it amazes me how press, bar some notable exceptions, allow fans with typewriters to pose a journalist who is supposed to be writing a fair and honest account of proceedings.

Looking at Chelsea last night, the only way they are going to win the league is they can set up Wayne Rooney on a date with Vanessa Perroncel.

Well said, Derek. Distin, Ossie and Bainesy played their best game in a Blue Shirt. Cahill and Heitinga also were immense. To score them so low is contemptable.
