Changes to 2010-11 season

Comments (9)

Just read a article on the BBC website, refering to the following changes being inforced next season

Clubs must include eight home-grown players out of a squad of 25.

- A home-grown player is a player who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season which he turns 21)

- Changes to the squad list of 25 may be made during the period of a transfer window.

- Clubs will be able to supplement their squads with unlimited additional players under the age of 21.

- An under-21 player refers to a player under the age of 21 as at 1 January in the year in which the season concerned commences

On the face of it, we must be in a great position at the moment with our current squad of players. Don't think it'll require much tweaking during the summer.

It'll be good to hear other members views.

Here are the players that don’t qualify as homegrown.

Iain Turner
Carlo Nash
Tim Howard
John Ruddy
Leighton Baines?
Joseph Yobo
John Heitinga
Phil Jagielka?
Sylvain Distin
Philippe Senderos
Seamus Coleman
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov
Mikel Arteta
Tim Cahill
Philip Neville
Steven Pienaar
Marouane Fellaini
Lukas Jutkiewicz? Close
Louis Saha
Yakubu Ayegbeni
Anton Peterlin
Cody Arnoux
That’s 22 players, taking out Peterlin, Arnoux and Lukas still leaves us 2 players over the limit for non home grown players, so we need to lose two of those.

Next season we will have 5 players over the age of 21 that are homegrown and 10 that are under 21, so long term not too bad, but probably not as good as expected.

If it was implemented this season, the eight home grown players would be
Osman
Hibbett
Neville
Jags
Leighton
Ruddy
Turner
Nash.

Makes you wonder how its going to effect the top teams, along with Spurs and maybe city. On the negitive side, Villa must be in a great position,

Livepool will be screwed, Man City too, Spurs like you say, Man Utd will be fine and Chelsea... not so good.

This ruling will benefit those without massive squads and e a detriment to those who can swap an international with a choice of many othr internationals...

Next season, top 4 (but i think that every season)

It won’t make much different at all, a squad of 25 named for a game, only 18 will get on the pitch and bench so all it effectively means that if there are none in the starting XI then one will have to be on the bench in the 7 subs, whihc invariably means they will get to watch the game pitch side and propbably never play unless 4 or 5 up.

Europe may be different though, what with the naming of the squads beforehand. Will it be enforceable in Europe, as they are not governed by the FA........or is it a Wafer/Fifa decision?

Ok i’m confused.

Steve: Surely your list is wrong. Pip, Jags, Baines, Ruddy and Turner all class as home grown.

And people seem to be forgetting Vic and Vaughn.

Gosling and Rodwell are/will still be under 21 or have their birthdays next season so are added extras.

So we should be fine.

I am wonderdering what your thoughts were on the proposal of last Champion League spot going for a playoff betwen, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th place in the League. Would that be benifical to Everton as we have a good chance of making the playoffs giving our current form over the last 4 seasons.

Will it be too many games especially when there is a world cup or a European cup that year. What if the 5th place team played the 6th place team at home. And the winner of that match plays the 4th best team away.
