The Mail Bag

Everton v West Ham

Unbeleivable performance today, hardly a shot on target and players who didn't play. Why Moyes plays Biliatdynov beats me, scores and then vanishes. Osman back to his normal form, Pienaar useless... the defence in the second half absent; Saha hopeless. Shoddy all round. The Hammers fully deserved their point, I hope they survive.

Giving away a last minute equaliser within 2 minutes!

Lads, forget your club, go away and protect your legs for the World Cup, sleep tight, and start next season with some purpose, unless you want a transfer opportunity.

For Gods swake give credit where it is due... we did not play well but West Ham outbattled us and the second goal they scored was undefendable!! We did not play to our very best standard but let's face it, we have gained lots of points when we were a struggling side just by effort alone and West Ham won all of the 50-50 balls and deserved their point. Scott Parker was brilliant and I for one can appreciate the result and put it in the proper perspective.

We scored two great goals and West ham deserved the equalizer because of their commitment and the second goal was a great effort. Put off the blue tinted glasses and respect the effort West Ham made to try to maintain their Premier League place. We have been in the same situation and they did deserve to get something from the game.

I didn't see the game because it was on late here in Malaysia but the result was very disappointing and my euphoria is deflated. Is it that we are far less accomplished without Arteta and that he is what makes us tick? If so, then we are in trouble... because his like comes on the market very rarely.

Trevor well said. West Ham were up for it and the second goal was a gem.
Although be prepared for some intense stick for accepting second best this time around. There was a lot of vitirol after the Wolves game so maybe more to come here.

Overall is was not a great performance true, and as you say WHU deserved their point. There will be some talking points, such as the obvious penalty on Saha, but overall I thought West Ham shaded it and with someone other than Mido Lido up front may have come away with 3 points.

I think Everton's intense efffort with only 2 defeats in 19 matches is now taking it's toll mentally and there was evidence of that today. I can't fault their effort out there but, at 1-0 up, West Ham were there for the taking and we inexplicably failed to shift through the gears and once we had lost the initative it was impossible to get it back.

Also, calling Pienaar usesless is an insult: he worked tirelessly throughout and although not all he did came off, Peter Cumming must have seen a different game from me. Saha useless... yes; not Pienaar. Osman, also pretty poor today, unable to tackle to save his life. Neville also had a poor game, more poor distribution which is getting worse... and all those Cahill bashers — well, what a great show of committment to block the clearance that lead to the Yak's goal, he has blue blood in his veins.

It would be insanity to get rid of Yakubu based on what Saha showed today.

Jagielka has been horrendous since his return — his hoofball tactics would have been suitable for Selhurst Park ten years ago. Thank heavens for Heitinga and Distin.

Well said Trevor Lynes.

The Irons were fighting for their lives yesterday, Scot Parker gave the best display by an opposition player I`ve seen at GP all season.

Recognising and applauding the effort shown by the opposition and settling for second best are two totally different things.

Martin Mason — the match wasn't on THAT late... 11pm kick off.. not too bad surely!! I watched it last night and was at work bright and early this morning, albeit in a bit of daze until lunch!!

But yes, it's was a poor performance for us. We never ever got going, even after an early goal, and West Ham got what their spirited performance deserved, ie, something out of the game.

Great, great header from the Yak though. Top drawer that goal. Just shame it didn't turn out to be the winner.

Next week is our cup final then... COYB!!!!!!

Trevor, spot on.

Over a season you have games where you don't play well and the opposition deserve something from the game. Yesterday was such an instance.

I found the games against Birmingham and Wolves far more anoying as we were the better team in both matches and had we upped the tempo in both those games earlier than the last ten minutes we would have an extra 4 points now.

The good thing for me yesterday was that, despite the fact that we played poorly, we were still trying to play good football. There were very few long balls and we were always looking to probe and pull West Ham out of position. Let's not forget, lads, we were missing our best two central midfielders yesterday, that's not an excuse, it's a fact.

We really missed Arteta yesterday. None of yesterday's midfielders were willing to pick the ball up from deep and dictate the play. Instead, we had Jagielka and Distin trying to play the role of distributor which is never going to work.

The up side is that we have a nice long break before the game at Villa. Anichebe and Arteta should be back for that one.
