So near but yet so far

I don't know what it is with us, but as soon as we get within touching distance of that lot across the park, we do our upmost to mess it up.
Waking up today, I feel more deflated than angry, and I feel like yesterday was our last chance to get in the mix. Like so many years before, though, the Chelsea/Man Utd results are always balanced up with those against Birmingham, Wolves & W est Ham.
I really do hope we can keep the likes of Arteta, Fellaini and Jagielka fit for a WHOLE season, try and get a little more out of Saha, polish off Rodwell, and have Heitinga just playing like he is right now. Possibly then we may have the nucleus for a team that can overhaul the also-rans of this world (Liverpool) and finally kick on into that elusive top four.

You sound like a kopite, implying that we should expect nothing less than the Championship every season. If we clinch 4th in our final home game next season I look forward to seeing you at Goodison park shaking your head and slagging off the team, while everyone else is celebrating.
I remember the days when finishing 4th would be disappointing but I also understand that was a long time ago and the world is a very different place today. You should accept that too.
Do me a favour with yer defeatist, loser talk my friends.
All my family, luckily inlaws, etc, are bluenoses, I have grown up from the first day I attended school, to support Everton and I don't have any problem with a fellow scouser who supports Liverpool. What I can't tolerate, under any circumstances, are the glory hunter gobshites from London, Cardiff, Norway, Ireland etc who support Liverpool because they used to win everything.
My priority every season as a scouser is to finish ahead of the red shite, anything else is a bonus. The fact that they are an American owned club, managed by a Spaniard, with only 2 or 3 English players makes it even more of a joy if we can finish above them. Live in the city, feel the heat!!
Do you seriously believe when moysie get's the boys in for pre-season training he sits them down with his opening line of "The league is ours this year" after just pilfering £70 - £100 million on some world class re-inforcements, to add to the title chasing squad we already have.
If you believe that would be moysie's opening line, then you are more disallusioned than most if not all I've spoken to re our recent shall we say waste of opportunities/points.
When we are in a position to not settle for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on, then I will be the first to cheer on our lads to a premiership crown, but until WE ARE IN A POSITION TO DO THIS, please don't criticise other's for wanting to see progression season on season and like I said eventually cracking the top four and hopefully ONE DAY lifting the prem crown.
Until that day which is sometime off (oops being defeatist again) I will leave you to go off and discuss how we are going to win the premiership next season, I just hope you enjoy your cornflakes in the morning.
They will fuck it up without us thinking about it, they aren't going to finish fourth, which in reality will be a hammer blow to them, no CL, means no money, means no new investors.
Bollocks to them, up the Blues!
Any winning team has those few talented guys who impose themselves on opponents week in and out. That mystical "Extra Something". We've tied two teams in a row we were better than. This happens.
But routinely the ManU and Arsenal teams win those games. Top 4 was legit after the ManCity win. OK, that's gone. EFC's biggest challenge next season is 3 points against inferior sides.
So talent-wise, Mr Moyes is in the position to keep or dump based on who has/has not killer instinct. He's done well over the years. I'm feeling 2011 Silverware.
And bring back Donovan.
AT least a quarter of the Premier managers probably turn up and say the aim this season is survival.
A Manager isn't going to give a team unrealistic expectations and nor should fans. 4th next season would be an incredible achievemnat as it would mean overhauling at least 3 or 4 teams who have probably spent two to three times what we have on player recruitment.
Dare I say it and I await everyone hammering me, but given the choice of them finishing 4th or Lpool then I would rather Lpool did. At least if Lpool do then their squad won't change much, they won't have much additional investment. The consequences of City getting there are that we may only ever have 5th place to go for the foreseeable future!
However, as I have previously stated, I don't accept playing for also ran positions and I don't for 1 minute accept staying in the Premier League as a success. The club motto/ethos is 'Nil Satis Nisi Optimum' is it not?? Let's start a petition or something to have it changed to 'Nil Satis Nisi Optimum But We'll Be Happy If We Finish Above The Red Shite or in The Top 4.'
Bullshit if you ask me

As to finishing top 4?? I want Everton finishing top, simple as. There's no prize for 2nd place, only the winner gets a prize. Finishing 4th is mediocrity if you ask me, it's just made to sound better by a consolation prize that is a place in a QUALIFYING round for the Champion's League.
Things could've been so different....
Yes....we might've finished 5th or 6th...wow...great...fantastic
