Moyes on Sunday

Comments (14)

I was wondering if anybody else caught David Moyes on goals on Sunday? As there wasn't that much action on Saturday, an awful lot of the program was dedicated to questions about Everton and he was remarkably frank.

Probably of most interest was the peice about Donovan: DM was asked outright if he fancied him full time and what were the chances... He said he would love to have him but he believed the Americans want more for him than he can afford. Moyes heaped huge praise on the attitude of Brian McBride and Tim Howard too, stating the Americans have been terrific for him. He spoke about MLS now wanting top dollar for their players... he was certain Landon was their brightest star and that would be reflected in his price. Alas for many, he didn't believe Landon was a realistic target.

DM also spoke about local players saying they dont always get appreciated as much as they should be. goals from Ossie were being shown as he spoke

He was asked about the Lescot saga and was STILL scaything towards Mark hughes and City, he said he would have been far happier if Hughes phoned him . . he even went as far as to say if that happened, he would have asked Hughes for a bit of time to get a replacement. then the deal would have been done.

He spoke about Fellaini, Pienaar, and other foreign players taking time to settle in; amazingly, he admitted Bily has been a bit of a passenger this season but he expect a lot more next season. I thought I was hearing things when he said several overseas players openly asked him what they had let themselves in for by coming to the Prem, Apparently Johnny H was in shock for weeks and in his first few games he was cramping up . . IN THE FIRST HALF!

I can't remember all of the interview — maybe someone else who saw the program will chip in — he did speak about how daunting the Celtic job is.

Oh and this one will upset all the Blue Bill fans: it wasn't Kenwright who selected Moyes — it was his partner Jenny! Apparently Kenwright was doing his interviews at his house and Jenny suddenly piped up during Moyesie's interview "You can't let this fella get away, Bill!"

Moyes claimed it was his "Glasgow patter" that charmed her... whatever it was — he was offered the job!

He does seem to be a pretty honest man. I sometimes wonder if all our conspiracies are a little far fetched. It does just seem at the end of the day, we are just one poor club with one stubborn manager.

I watched the interview and thought it was very good, if not a bit pre rehearsed but he came across well. He made a remark about Mikel Arteta saying he didn't think he'd had enough time to get into the Spanish World Cup squad but he knows now that the Spanish management team are taking a serious look at him because of Fabregas's injury, also saying he thinks Mikel has actually gone up another step since his return due to his goals.

He also said he's desperate to win silverware for the club adding we've come close with a final and maybe in some quarters finishing 4th could be viewed as a success. Many will disagree with that I think?

All in all, he never shirked from anything asked and was even honest enough to say when asked "How do you beat Utd and Chelsea? What's the secret?" he said "Why are you asking me, up till this season, I couldn't get near them.''

Got to admit as well... after every Moyes indepth interview I come away with a lot of respect for the man... I'm not a basher but I do get as annoyed with him as many at times....

All that settles for a while after he speaks... and you begin to wonder if us fans just get a little carried away at times.....

We have really missed Donovan ... will be a very interesting summer... as always.

I think Joey's right.

Think I've read it somewhere before, some journalist claiming DM was the only manager who never fed him porkies.

I think it's for the good. But that's my personal opinion, and I value honesty.

A good point for comparison is the FSW of the redshite - look at the bullshit and bollocks he comes out with compared to Moyes.

I think Moyesy shits all over that horrible bastard in every single aspect.

Didn't see it, but it sounds as though he was very honest and open.

Hopefully he can get Donovan's price down, or find someone better!

He is still the right man for the job, but how long we can keep him with his hands tied I do wonder.

I think the fact that Celtic are waiting until the summer to appoint a manager is worrying. That is the time where Moyes seems to get most frustrated in the job, and with Celtic being as close to the bottom as they are likely to get in the SPL (i.e. 2nd and no hope of winning anything) he would surely be tempted to pick them up.

I hope not.

I watched it and it nearly caused a divorce as we were on our way out, and I told the screaming one that there wasn't any football on. Good interview and his praise of American Footballers suggests that he might be looking there in the future, and he's right about McBride who was a limited footballer but with a great work ethic and like Donovan invariably chose the right options on the field. Maybe they treat sport a lot more seriously over there, but all the Yanks that have played in the prem have had first class attitudes-but it doesn't look hopeful for Donovan which is a shame for him as well as us

Didnt see it, but the Donovan link might be a smokescreen.

Remember Davy's been bitten a few times recently by showing his cards too early. He doesn't want to start a bidding war, in which no doubt Tottenham would be involved.

I really can't see him wanting to manage Celtic. What would he prove? There are only 2 teams in Scotland that win anythinkg (except maybe Ross County this season!) but that's about it. Celtic and Rangers get found out in Europe every year which only proves how bad Scottish Football is. Also Celtic don't have any money either.

He'd be much better in the EPL, hopefully with us for a while yet. He can win nothing in Scotland that would prove he's a better manager than he is down here.

I too saw this.

About the whole Lescott thing, he also said he thought even Garry Cook and Brian Marwood would even admit now that the whole thing was poor. I would suggest Mark Hughes would now admit the whole thing was poorly done as I thought he gave the impression at the time of a man who knew himself what was going on wrong but had no choice but try and toe the party line. And toed it pretty poorly as well.

Mark Hughes would not admit the whole episode was wrong, because Mark Hughes is Mark Hughes and, therefore, a horrible shit.

I didn't see the interview, but would like to say from the comments generated, that Mark Hughes throughout the whole Lescott debacle, he was a joke!! The way he went about his business in securing the signature of such a sought-after player bordered on farcical.

In the end, we got, due to their desperate need for a centre-half, a very over-inflated price for what I see as a slightly than average centre-half. His face in the game at Eastlands when we went 2-0 up spoke volumes so I won't add to what was a great night, whether his pay cheque showed £100k in his account the next day or not.

On the subject of Donovan, I would love to see him back at Goodison next season because, since he has gone, we have missed his directness in attacking situations. Since he has gone back, I can honestly say it has cost us points and I for one would love to see him linking up with Coleman next season in a whole new right-hand side for a new and very exciting Everton FC.

So you Knew about Kenwrights partners role in Moysies appointment did you Ciarán ?
And Moyes admitting the club "carried" Bily didnt surprise you at all ?

Well it was all news to me.

Another couple of things I`ve remembered, the club was so concerned about the number of Bookings fellaini was racking up the actually got referees in - just like with AJ - apparently the referees admitted he was being harshly treated and things have since improved.
Moyes told Chris Camara that he called Baines into his office soon after hearing of Ashley Coles injury and told him this is your chance.
He said that unlike other managers, he wanted all Everton players to play for their countries, although he voiced concern about the distances Howard and Cahill travel
