Sad result at Villa

Comments (28)

Just got back from the pub, gutted, we only drew away at Villa and from my view we were simply better than them.

Respect to our glorious fans who went and showed we are a proud and big club (see THFC fans at Wembley at the end? Wow — how not to behave)

Our players tactics and play were a credit to the club tonight and aside from the start of the season we have been as good as I have seen.

Proud that we are a real force; next season cannot have such a bad start and we will really be challenging

God I love my Everton.

Sad is a fucking understatement. I just got bacl from the pub, too, and although I cannot fault the lads for their effort, I cannot as yet stomach this result. Why can we never fucking beat these tossers. You always know there will be some late twist when we play them, always! Great game to watch if you are a neutral, more heartache if you are a Blue. Fucking Aston Villa...

now that means Europe is gone. It will take a miracle to leapfrog the teams now. I need that miracle too as i am coming over to Europe for 5 months and wanted to watch Everton in Europe. Just gutted, why oh why does Jags have his mishaps against Villa. But in reality Howard should have saved it. I see us being like tottenham next year. THey missed Europe this year and have had a cracking year. This is what we will do next year. NSNI.

I agree David. It hurts like fuck now, but I think we are getter off without the burden of European games next year with our squad size and all.

I listened to it on City and had the TW forum up (couldn't get a link) but the lads that could get a link was complaining about the bias commentary by Trevor Francis. Just watched extended highlights on Sky and I know what they mean, didn't give us any credit whatsoever, annoying baldy twat if he's ever the 'expert' commentating our game I'll turn the sound down

Gutted as well.
Why do Aston Villa always seem to be able to come back against us. They seem to have more than their fair share of luck as well.
I thought Tim Cahill was enourmous tonight both in attack and defence. MOM in my opinion.

Went to pub with a Villa friend in states and they didn't have the Fox Soccer Plus package. Good Lord! Watched the Spurs Arsenal game while we closely watched the Gamecast and Toffeeweb Live Forum
Gutted. So much potential and opportunity
/ Seems I've finally replaced that misery I so enjoyed and embraced after my Red Sox won their World Series.

I must need a degree of pain in my life. There's no other explanation.

We've moved into the "Hard to beat" category in a league easy to have your ass whipped.

Tough to take this frustration. But it's born of knowing we're good. We're good. What's the tweak or 2 needed? Everyone healthy and bring back Donovan. Everyone EPL be prepared for EFC next season. We're winning finishing #1.

Always the fair play league to get in Europe! I feel Europe is a double-headed coin; if we miss out, it could be the focus they need to get into the Champions League but could also make it difficult to attract new players.

If we get a little luck (which I don't associate with Everton) and they get a spot in the fair play or R'shite or Villa manage to totally fuck up their seasons and we get into Europe. It could help persuade players like Pienaar to stay and hope to attract better players, play in Europe (if we had Johnny available and played with a little more confidence in Lisbon we could still be beating the likes of Juve like Fulham did!) and the long shot of attracting an investor!!!

I went to the match last night and the abiding memory for me is the number of times we seemed to create an opening only to not expoit it through lack of pace. An example was Neville on the overlap who got clear but then decided to double back because he knew he'd get caught. We desperately need to some pace to finish off teams like Villa, Wolves etc.

David Hallwood,
to give Trevor Francis his due, he did say that Young should have been sent off staight away for that terrible tackle on Pienaar, late in the second half, and I don't think many people would disagree with him.

I went to the game last night and hats off to our lads - they played really really well. Apart from the first 20 minutes when Villa were at their most potent, we bossed the game and at times took the piss with some exceptional one touch passing and movement.

Even though it was disappointing not to get the three points I would say that Europe is still a possibility. Why? Because Villa's performance last night showed just how close they are at present to a complete collapse like they did last season. There are still four games to go and as long as we keep our part of the deal (win our games) then the chances are that Villa in particular and maybe even the RS will drop points between now and the end.

So all is not lost. There will still be twists and turns between now and the end and as our actual performances are pretty good at the moment I think the glass is still half-full and not half-empty.

Keep the faith!

Well the remaining games are all winnable (what does that even mean?) and as usual Villa are paying the price for using too few players all season. Hopefully The Shite will implode and we manage to catch them.

I doubt we will get Europe but it would be a pleasant surprise.

In regards to last night, I will put a few quid on the fact that Young will not be penalised for his assault on Pienaar and it probably will not even be mentioned much in the media.

They didn't deserve a point last night but as usual with Villa they get the luck against us, Jags poor pass back, a penealty that wasn't a penalty last year (Petrov/Lescott) and now an own goal by Jags, that should have been saved.

Wenger had it right, they have a limited way of playing, hoof it to Carew or twat it upfield for the speedsters to chase. Crap football and deserved nothing last night.

Colin (Potter) ;- Can you please refrain from using the word "tackle" ref the Young/Pienaar incident. If that happened outside of the stadium it would be called GBH.

Just watched the highlights a few times.

Last chance of the game. P Neville could have pulled it back to the penalty slot for either Osman or Rodwell to slot in but pulls it wide. You'd think with his experience he'd be looking for the surer chance at goal. I play right back and I know I don't trust my shooting enough. A simple pass inside and we probably win the game.

Rodwell would have blazed over and Ossie would have tried to dribble around 5 men before mis-hitting a tame shot into the keepers arms.

Neville did the right think and 8 inches to the right we would have been celebrating a deserved victory, you see inches DO matter

Colin Potter, and don't want to drone on about media bias, and I only saw the hightlights on Sky, but there was some great passages of play and at no time did Francis or the muppett doing the commentary ever say "another good move by Everton" or "good football" and at halftime Tim Howard had 'kept Everton in the game' forgetting the number of saves Friedel had to make including a goal line clearance from Bily.

This isn't just the usual paraniod blue rant, but we never get credit from Sky and Francis is the worst.

You're right to pay tribute to the fans Ian, they were magnificent.

Even without Fellaini and Arteta Everton played some lovely crisp little passes last night, for long periods we were a cut above, result aside, that was proper entertainment.

However Andy Crooks is right, sure we can continue to play the right way until the end of this season, but priority has to be to get things in place early so we can fly out of the traps next season.

There can be no excuses this time.

Matthew, take your point but "tackle" is most appropriate seeing as how Stevie P almost went home minus his ! One of the nastiest challenges I've seen and almost as blatant as the one that got that galoot at Dundee United an early bath last night.

Ashley Young is moving quickly up my top 10 most hated characters in football list. He's overtaken the Redknapps and he's in at 4th behind Gerrard, Carragher and Benitez.

I agree with you about the commentry, I should have made the point that the incident was that bad, that even Francis thought that Young should have been sent off!

I went to Villa Park last night the atmoshere was great and from my 'seat' it was a really good game, one that earlier in the season a result we'd have been overjoyed with... It must speak volumes that we now expect to not only beat but outplay our wealthier opponents and generally do lately... another game of ifs and buts yet depite being without Arteta and Fellaini a very good performance.

Something I've noticed after last night ... those of us who attended the game seem more optimistic about our future than those who went to the pub or watched a stream, We stayed to cheer the players off last night, Tim Cahill threw his shirt into the crowd, (causing a bit of a barney), and the only grumble on the way home was the roadworks on the M6.

Andy Crooke is spot on that we need to be planning now for next season. I am concerned that Moyes is saying he does not know how much money has has for next season yet - how can he identify players if he doesn't know whether he's shopping in Harrods or Netto ?

Went to the game last night and was gutted we could'nt get the three points. We just seemed to make the wrong choice of pass in front of goal. All the supporters at the ground got behind the team you only heard the villains when they scored. The game changed when Johnny went off injured as we lost a bit of bite in midfield.
What cheered me up on the way home was thinking back to games we had been to away previously like Hull,Burnley and Bolton .They where miserable games to go to. Just want us to concentrate on us winning all our remaining games starting with Blackburn .Lets get behind the lads on Saturday and make Ewood Park sound like the Old Lady.

I thought we were really unlucky, just our luck ey? An own goal in the last minute. I was arguing with a Villa fan and apparently Cahill should have got sent off? Someone has to explain that one to me!

But god knows I want to see Fellaini and Arteta in centre mid next season, I cannot wait!! We really need some luck. If those 2 stay fit, and we maybe get Donovan and another striker in the summer, no doubt we can challenge for top 4 next season.
