Rooney Sell-on Clause

Comments (17)

I was just wondering, after reading reports that Real Madrid may make a €90M bid for Wayne Rooney, did Everton insert a sell-on clause in his transfer deal, and if so for how much?

I think I remember reading at the time that there was one, so if anybody knows for sure it would be great if you can fill me in. Imagine, lets say 25% of 9€90M thats €22.5M! Wow, let's see Bill try to hide that!!!

I always thought that we did have a sell on clause. Im pretty sure it was along the lines of 25% of any profit over the £27-£30m Utd paid for him.

I remember at the time thinking it was a bit daft and we wouldn't really get anything from it as i never expected fees for modern day footballers being anywhere £56m or £80m let alone £90m.

But I was wrong and if true i think £15 odd million would be very welocme indeed.

Which would be enough to make Utd not want to sell him!

How do you know we get a sell on fee? Have you read the contract or listening to hear say? Sources please..

I'm not having a bash. I'd be keen to know just as much as anyone?

I am certain that there was a sell on clause which I think was 25% of any profit.

However, it would not suprise me if our fantastic commercial department came to some sort of agreement with Man U to waiver any entitlement in return for not paying a fee for Neville or Howard - thats just the sort of thing we would do......

" Remember The Claim !! "

Don't worry about a sell on clause, as Wazza with be re-signing for 'The People' on a free transfer next summer July 2011.

That is what he has told his close friends and family

John,
i hear the same done deal story "darn sarf" from the usual sources; the kiss-and-make-up with Moyesey has (allegedly) paved the way for the soft millionaire to come back home
Believe it when I see the photo with the scarf , shirt and grint in the (printed in Manchestaer ) Echo

John Meredith.

How can Rooney possibly come back on a free transfer in July 2011 when his contract doesn't end until a year later?

Also I still have the breakdown of his sale and it includes us getting 25 per cent of any profit United make on him.

Wayne Rooney will never leave Man Utd. As we all know loyalty is his finest quality.

I'm fairly certain that years ago Uefa (or was it Fifa?) brought in a rule, that stated the parent club of any player under the age of 21 when sold, must recieve a percantage of any profit (sale?) made by the club that bought him?

At the time, Man U was listed on the stock exchange (the Glazers didn't come in till May 2005). Therefore there was disclosure of the breakdown of the transfer fee.

There were all sorts of add ons to do with Man U's success on the field - PL, FA Cup, CL There was a bonus if he signed an extended contract (he did) - but all of this was capped to a maximum figure - 7 million. I believe that all add ons have now been paid.

There was also a 25% of profit from sell on.

Personally, I hate all these add on clauses as it's too easy to get screwed over. We got shafted by Rangers over Michael Ball (of course being Everton, we just dropped our pants and bent over). Boro are trying to do it to Portsmouth now over Gary O'Neill - not playing him to avoid paying them 1 million, and he's likely to be sold in the summer.

It seems to me morally wrong for a club to receive a windfall like we got from Rooney based on the buying club's success.

Guess I'm just old fashioned.

So if he did go for £80m then we should technically get 25% of £50m which is £12.5. That would be a serious bonus!

That would become our transfer kitty then.

Added to the mysterious money that we were gonna spend last summer before we just ended up re-investing the Lescott money.
