Building the "Dixie Dean" Stand

Comments (18)

We have not heard anything from the club about their future plans for Goodison for a while now. It seems the Board has ran out of ideas and money, and they need to bring someone on board with some fresh thinking from outside the club. Or shall we sit round the phone waiting for that elusive Arab, Indian or Russian billionaire?

How about this for starters?

Take down the Gwladys Street towards the end of next season, re-name it the " Dixie Dean Stand " and it will cost you £50.00 to have your name inscribed on a wall.

We have got to start somewhere, you don't have to bulldoze the whole site, and you can pre-fab most of the structure with modern fabrication techniques. One stand a season, with the Bullens Road next... why not?

The brick thing though done before is something the fans would go for... but surely £60 for Dixie's stand no?

As for a new vision, a wrap around of the main stand look would look awesome, after a rejigging of the design.

I'm all for it but how do we get the message to the Club Management? I would be so happy to stay at the Old Lady and think its a great idea. I would be happy to give £100 a brick.

I'm in. At the risk of starting a petty one I think it should be the Neville Southall stand though.

I believe it's been said that Bill won't consider a rights issue; is this because it will diminish the value of existing shareholdings?

I'd give cash to the club (providing it is spent on rebuilding) for some sort of memorial to my dad and uncle — names on bricks, etched on the stand's frontage or a scroll of honour etc. And not just honouring the past — what a great gift for the new generation, better than an Everton bib or babygro!

But how the hell can we get this Board to take any notice of us once we've handed over the season ticket money?

Kevin a great idea but we couldnt really start with Gladys Street as I'm sure Tom Hughes or Trevor Skempton would agree.

It is tied in to the Bullens Road structure and also would cause disruption to our attendances for part of the season.

IMO we could add an extra tier in the Park end with Corporate hospitality and call that the Dixie Dean Stand (or Suite) and make it available as a membership which should go a long way towards the funding together with your idead of "marketing" wall space.

This would also cause minimum disruption and take capacity to 48000.

All the surplus income could be channelled into a "rebuilding of Goodison fund" to develop the rest of the ground over a period of time.

However I cant see the "Men with no vision" going for it.

In the days when the ball weighed about two stone, when real men played for buttons, when you'd have played for your club for nothing, when the men who played looked like your dad; Dixie Dean was the greatest. There must be a Dixie Dean stand.

Good start Kevin.

We have to focus on lifting EPL Silverware this time next year. Everything else, money especially, will come from that.

Europe (if it happens), national open tournaments next season? Sorry. Just good experience and playing time for our substitutes and young players. Winning the EPL is the key to everything else. Mr. Moyes should state so at the beginning of the season and not waiver from it.

Everyone loves a winner, especially the "Little engine that could" or the "competitor that punches above its weight". EFC is described that way routinely. However much Mr. Moyes gets ripped in here, he seems to be highly respected by opponents. He's indisputedly put together a side with plenty of talent without the immense funding available to other teams.

We have enough depth and talent to be legitimate contenders to lift the Silverware next season as long as it remains our primary focus; not the other tournaments. The money will come with that.

Kevin - BTW. My post wasn't to denigrate your suggestion above. When I read it it I was thinking of how you go into museums or churches and see plaques, painting, or statues mentioning a contribution in the name of "Such and such family, loving father, mother", etc. Great idea.

I'm good for 50 quid too, but only if it's for the Mike Walker stand.

How about the Billy Wright Burger Bar?
Or the Peter Eastoe Toilet?

Great idea! But if 40,000 fans paid £50 each, you still only get £2m. I guess it would be a start, I'd do it if the club sets out clearly how much it will cost in total.

I also think it's a good idea. I would extend it further and maybe have levels of contribution (£50, £100, £500, £1,000) with different levels of recognition. It would be good to get the Everton 'diaspora' involved — we have a lot of fans around the world and personally I don't think the club involves them enough.

A couple of other items to mention:-

How about LCC allowing the club to sell Bellefield? At the time, the rejection seemed (DK) politically motivated as the town planners didn't have a problem with it overall but LCC didn't want to assist our move.

Also wondering if naming rights for Goodison are an option? I know they are normally associated with a new stadium but I can't see why they cannot apply to an existing stadium, especially as part of a refurbishment?

Kevin - im in - im a managemnet accountant - if you need any help in costing - set up costs etc let me know (free of charge). It would be so interesteting to see what the club would do if fans/pressure groups started to take action.
