Moyes on BBC World Cup team

Comments (35)

I see David Moyes is part of the BBC's World Cup team on 5Live radio. I quite like the idea as we know that he'll be out there and able to scout players (which I'm sure he would have done anyway but at least it's on BBC expenses), and I think that a wider audience will hear him and could increase respect for him from neutrals and supporters of other teams.

What do you think? Should he perhaps be busy with Everton affairs instead?

I think it would have been better that he be a part of a US network team and get exposure for Everton that way. But then they wouldn't understand him over here ... after all they put subtitles on Trainspotting in some places ...

Don't like it...

Said so in a recent article, for the Sixteen million quid he will earn from his current contract, I think we are entitled to his undivided attention.

Moyes should be going to see players he`s interested in, not going to matches he`s contracted to cover.

No doubt the people who applauded the announcement of our tour down under will see no harm in our manager doing a little moonlighting.

He`s entitled to a decent holiday, but after that I`d rather he was 100% focused on preparing for next season. It`s absolutely vital to the future of EFC.

Jay unless he sells a current player or two it's pointless scouting for players, clubs don't take payments in magic beans and a couple of tickets for a Black Bill show.

Respect? I don't want your respect! Now fuck off!

As that comedian who is occaisionally on the One Show said about it on Grumpy Old Men.

Jesus, there's some rubbish spouted on here!

How is watching a handful of World Cup games going to disrupt Moyes's management of the team?

I'm sure he has a mobile phone. Heck, he may even have an email address! It's not like he's cutting himself off from the world for a month!

I think its a good thing. Can't see any negetives in it at all. The club get a certain amount of exposure, he'll be out there keeping an eye on our own players, looking at new players, and it'll also give Evertonians a little more interest than usual in the World Cup.

I think thats a fair point Dave, you could argue that this comes under the term, conflict of interest, with his very good contract to Everton.

At the same time though, everything I've heard about Moyes suggests he wont allow this to affect his work.

Conflict of Interest? How's that then? What could he possibly do that would be conflict to his job at Everton? It's the equivalent of a teacher in his summer holidays taking a private tutoring job for a bit of extra cash, is it not. Will never affect his pupils will it?

Under that time he is being paid by Everton to be Everton manager, if he opting to take this role for the BBC while he is on holiday, then fair enough, but if he is on Evertons time then I think you could argue the point.

I personally dont think it would affect his performance at all at Everton, but I could see the argument for making that point.

Come on guys get a grip. Our manager is going to do some commentary on a few World Cup games in the summer and people are making it into a big issue.

"Do some commentary on a few games"... I`ve heard it all now.

The guy won't be hopping in a taxi to the studio for the odd game, he will be travelling around SA covering games that he may not want or need to be at... probably at the expense of games he should be at.

Last time Moyes worked for the media during an international tournament we came out of the traps on our arses.

So, let me get this straight, he goes moonlighting for a few weeks in SA, he goes on Holiday, then he goes on another Jolly down under... more or less takes care of the summer.

No wonder our prep is shite season after season, not only do the fans not object to it, some of them actively encourage it.

The same people will be whining like fuck about missed opportunities if we have our now customary shambolic start.

I find it incredible that people on this website would find anything to moan about.

The team are playing great at the moment, so we can't moan about that... so instead it's time to moan about the summer instead.

If Moyes was not out at the World Cup people would be saying "Why is our manager not scouting at the World Cup?" Now we hear he is heading out there and he is getting moaned at for that as well.

Can I introduce some of you to the concept of management team; you may be surprised to know that Moyes doesn't do everything and not only has his immediate team but a network of scouts. As Paul Foster said, there's some shite written on this site.

Moyes revealed weeks ago that he was going to SA, he was going scouting, something every manager worth his salt should do, unfortunately he has has since taken up another job that has nothing to do with Everton, he`s no longer primarily there on Everton business.

Most of us knew that, It would really help your cause if you knew what you were talking about instead of blindly bitching about anyone who dares criticise.

This summer is vital; if you dont recognise that, thats your problem.

Dave Wilson,

Without trying to get into another argument with you, the point i am trying to make is we don't know anything about Moyes's plans whilst he is in SA. We don't know if he is covering every game that is played in the World Cup or whether he is doing commentary on only a few games.

For all we know he might have already arranged which games he wants to attend to view potential signings for Everton and the BBC has asked him to cover the commentary on these games whilst he is there.

We just don't know, but people on here are already moaning without knowing anything about the level of involvement he will have with the BBC.

Furthermore, you stated "Moyes revealed weeks ago that he was going to SA" please could you point me in the direction of the article etc that he makes this comment in because I would be interested in reading it.

Sean McCarthy, not everyone subscribes to your "Yes, sir, three bags full" mentality; some of us have minds of our own. If people dont agree with Moyes, he will be criticised.

Every time he gets criticised, you're on moaning like fuck, the irony is you think Moyse's critics are the moaners.

Try forming an opinion of your own instead of whining about other people's.

Dave Wilson,

Any joy finding the link to the interview or the article or programme notes etc from weeks ago that Moyes stated he was going to South Africa?

If you could point me in the right direction to find this it would be appreciated.

Julian Wait - Too bad Moyes didn't do coverage for the States. He'd have been a big hit here (especially with his accent) and we could have had a few weeks of, "Oh, you're the guy gave our Landon a chance". "Everton is it"?

Would have worked on several levels in New Everton.

Sky 1: Goals on Sunday

Date: 11 April 2010

Interview with: Chris Kamara & Ian Payne

Moyes says he keeps looking for tips from Pienaar about where he should stay during the World Cup; he jokes that Pienaar hasn't offerd to "look after him" while he`s out there.

I watched it upstairs, but found out later that my missus thought I was asleep, so she Sky plus`d it for me.

Will get exact wording if you want.

Lol... "Don't have to try very hard"? I make that about your 27th attempt.
For somebody who doesn't have to try very hard, you put an awful lot of effort – and research – in, lad.

I know where we bought JH from; I was in Madrid and actually saw him play twice for them. The only time Holland was mentioned was when you asked me who he played for in Italy.

Try posting on other subjects rather than just waiting to try trip me up; it`ll save you getting the runaround again and you may find you enjoy TW a lot more.

Yes, Dave, don't have to try very hard.

Your recent posts include:

1) JH played in Italy

2) Hibbert is the reason we are not getting into Europe this year

3) Gareth Bale is the best left back around

4) We have never not been beaten when we have played a top 4 team with jagielka playing

5) We deserved to beat chelsea away this season

6) We have never lost to a top 4 team with JH in the team

7) No-one has said we should sell Tim Cahill, even though there was a post on the same thread saying we should get rid of him.

My My a proper little groupie aren't you? Hanging on to my every word...

1) JH has played in Italy. FACT.

2) You are lying, I didn't say that and you know it, I merely pointed out his record

3) He is — but accept that is merely opinion

4) Not true, you're lying again

5) Lying AGAIN, I didn't say "deserved", I said "should have", the people who were there know that's a fact

6) I was talking about Heitinga playing at CB instead of Jags, you know that, but in your desperation you are trying to take it out of context

7) Your lying AGAIN, the guy (the only one in the entire thread) said HE would, not WE should — try to grasp the difference

Your way out of your league, lad.
