Moyes and Pienaar

Comments (24)

Moyes is quick to state to Pienaar about Everton being the right club for him with many leaving and failing. I think he needs to show his own commitment by stating '"I will be the Everton boss for as long as the fans want me."

I feel his response to the links for the Manager's Job at Man U was a 'come and get me' comment.

Moyes may love Everton but he isn't one of us. He is a professional not a fan.

If any of us had the chance to go to a new employer who could offer you far greater opportunities in terms of resources and recognition/exposure I think most of us would think about it.

That being said at least he knows his job is safe here. Most managers in the UK would kill for that.

I agree with Rusell, furthermore I think Moyes has been brilliant for Everton and Everton for him, but there's a time to move on and if this was an option I for one would not bear him ill will should he choose to go......

Eff me, he best leave now them, as the majority of fans on here want him out.

Please alo explain how his reliance on our fans to stay indicates a come and get me plea?, surely he would say I am the Everton boss until I get a better deal etc, you see the problem with your assumption?

"When my players are linked with clubs it annoys me," Moyes told the Daily Record. "So I don't want to go into any of it. But as far as I'm concerned this is a load of nonsense."

Hardly "come and get me" is it?

I am frequently on Toffeeweb and am a big David Moyes fan. To my mind, in the real world of football, not the fantasy football league, his achievements in the toughest league in the world, given an approximate spend of £3M net per year, are quite simply phenomenal.

I also believe that the squad he has assembled is the nearest we have had to the Kendall squad of the mid 80's and I am sure they will challenge for honours next year. I am also immensely proud of the way we conduct ourselves as a club and of the style of football we play, leading us to be compared to Barcelona at the weekend (I know it has been a long time coming) and enjoying statistics that see our best players kicked off the park every week.

Not all Toffeewebbers are fantasy football types or moaners. I like a rant like the best of them sometimes but overall I'm proud of our club, our team, our manager and I'm really excited about our prospects for next year. By the way, did anyone watch the RS last night? Not a single shot on target. Like watching paint dry.

There isn't a manager in his right mind who would turn down the Man U job. Yes, big expectations but you aren't exactly inheriting a shite squad and no money are you? I wouldn't have any problems or ill feelings if he decided to go, it would be our loss as the only replacements we would be linked to and able to afford would be journeymen or risky.

Kevin
I completely agree with you and after criticising a bit accept that our problems in the first half of the season were small squad and too many injuries. With the benifit of 20:20 Moyes and his team have done brilliantly. I always said that it was the recovery that would show his true ability and he has produced the beef.

I'd be desperately sorry to see him go because it would be a disaster for us but I'd wish him well.

I do doubt his potential as a European style manager suitable for Man United?

Yes, the RS showed how to play away in Europe but came partially unstuck. Totally, totally negative.

I would be sorry to see him go but I have a feeling that if he did go to ManUre if he was losing in an European game with 25 mins to go and turned around and saw, Berbatov, Park, Giggs, Scholes etc on the bench, he wouldn't hesitate as much as when he turns around and sees, Yobo, Hibbert, Senderos, Anichebe et all on the bench

Tony that is a great comment & your spot on!

He is the one who signed all those players though lets not forget.

Agreed James, but Yobo was seen as one of our best players when he was first "properly" bought, just shows how our team has changed but also shows how the league has improved and our "better" players are not seemingly good enough anymore.

The best thing to do is when Moyes goes for his Man Utd interview is to see if us fans could get Michael Kenrick to go with him, I think that should safely see Moyesie staying with us for a good many years yet!

Moyes is a straight line manager, predictable and capable within comfortable parameters. Innovation is not his strong point, the style of play until recently has been cautious and when important players have wanted out he hasn't dealt with it, similarly he appears to dither or gets outwitted when buying.

Turn the clock back 7 years, say to any incoming manager you are at Everton football club one of the most famous clubs in football, but all you have to do is keep us in the Prem.
Don't worry about winning things, the style of play is irrelevant, the present board like the supporters are pliant so you can learn your trade here, the pressure is minimal, just keep your nose clean avoid scandal we'll bump your money up after a few years and who knows one day Man U might come knocking.
In my opinion 9 out of 10 managers would have us at least where we are now.

It'll be very different if he moves up the East Lancs Rd.

Charles, I have to disagree with the statement that innovation is not David Moyes's strong point. Moyes has been lauded by other professionals, both players and coaches alike, for the training methods and facilities that he has engineered at Finch Farm.

Dithering Davey is another unfair portrayal of a man whose slow moves in the transfer market have to be seen in the context of a system completely dominated by spending power. Moyes apparently spends a good deal of time between windows making careful assessments of character and attitude as well as ability, and yes this is a methodical process. However, when it comes to signing players you need the money up front to get the signature ahead of Harry Redknapp.

In my opinion, 9 out of 10 managers would have totally failed in this role and would have gone long ago. Moyes, like a small minority of his counterparts, is trying to build a lasting foundation and in his 8 years has made massive changes to personnel, coaching, general play, and not least our fortunes on the pitch. Much as old red nose did at Man U.

He is a great manager but tactically garbage in Europe and that is massive when it comes to the Mancs.

If I was a Utd fan I would not be too happy with Moyes taking over ahead of Mourinhho, how many of us new he would turn Barca over? I just don't think Utd will touch Moyes YET.

I would have thought by signing a new and lucrative 5-year contract just last season would shirley have shown his commitment to Everton? Or this something that has to be done annually???

This all sounds like somebody who wants Moyes to leave and is reading into it what they WANT to see.

Lets wory about this when Fergie actually jibs it which judging by his comments today is unlikely to be any time soon.

No-one knows where we will be in 2 or 3 years time so its pointless even discussing the topic, which |i am bizarely doing now so I'll shut up !!!!

Of course Brian. If he goes to Manure he'll have to take a drop in salary of £30/40k. Ferguson is undoubtedly on a much lesser salary than Moyes (or Moyles for that matter)...

Anyone who goes to Utd in the wake of SAF knows he's on toxin-coated ride to nowhere. Those of a certain vintage will remember the poisoned legacy of Busby. McGuiness, O'Farrell, Sexton....

People also forget that Fergie was within an ace of the sack at Man U in 1990. A fortuitous FA Cup win in a replay (Palace should've beaten them in the final) granted a stay of execution, and within 3 years they were champions of the inaugural Premier League. The rest, as they say, blah blah blah.

I've always believed, with the timing of the European ban and the break up of the mid-80s side, we got shit at the wrong time. Man U were fodder in the mid 80s.

For me manure will not take Moyes as manager because he hasn't won anything yet, don't forget Manure are a so called "global label" and as much as we all love our Davey they'll be looking for a bigger name....... simple as. So stop worrying.

If that was a "Come and get me", I obviously am a bit thick!
We are a much better team now than when Moyes first arrived, that is down to Moyes, I do think he has been lucky at times with team formations picking themselves due to injury etc etc but on the whole he's done a great job for us and I wouldn't want to see him go.
Manure will go for a "named " manager with a lot of European experience; Ferguson see's himself in Moyes and would like him for Manure but it will never happen.

I would laugh a lot if Moyes went to Man U. There is absolutely no way their fans or the press would accept his style of play. Moyes still has a lot to prove before he can think of taking a job like that. Man U are on a par with Barcelona and Real Madrid in terms of stature, would those two teams think about employing him?
