If Baines can do it...

Comments (9)

As Baines has racked up nine assists this season was wondering how many assists have come from the right side of the team?

It shows how reliant we are on the left hand side combination and the best we've looked this season was with Donavan on the right. Meaning that teams had to consider both wings!

Bily the lad has managed to clock up a few assists this season. Considering how bad some have commented on him playing. He's been played in a variety of positions and just think that people have been a little harsh.

Be good to see what a refreshed Russian can do next season?

I've been harsh on Bily this year and only recently seen the stats which are much better than I had first thought. I'm holding judgement until the new season and hoping he'll come good.

Baines continues to do well and, with the aquisition of a proper right midfielder, I'm confident Everton should be in a much better place next season.

I think you`ll find that a few of Baines assist have come from corners and free kicks he has taken from the right side too, Pienaar or Arteta are just as likely to take them from the left

Well, regarding our right side, Donovan wants to come back. He's made that clear several times and he's the one American who can get a deal based on a number of things beyond the straight cash transfer.

In 2020, MLS will be signing the 16-17 year old Henry, Rooney, Ronaldo, Kaka, etc. Right now though, European success (most especially in our English Cousin's top league) for our best player in his prime will trump simple cash considerations for our domestic league. It's important you there understand that. Landon's success doesn't only have to do with him. MLS has a major stake in the best player America has produced succeeding in the best league; the EPL.

I know Moyes has hinted Donovan will cost too much, given EFC's budget. However, it's indisputable that Landon wants to put the Blue Shirt back on. And soon. In any discussion of him, always keep sight of that. He wants to play for EFC. A simple promotional deal, where MLS gets a cut of Donovan-related merchandising, will make his sale to the Toffees easy. Then it's 4 years of opponents shitting bricks when the ball is sent up the right side.

ps: Donovan can play anywhere, anytime, and be exceptional. His loan this season only exposed the tip of the iceberg. Wait till he settles in.

James, your prediction of MLS teams buying up the best footbaling talent in the world... just 10 years from now, is almost as laughable as the 'Back to the Future 2' portrayal of 2015.

What's with the life preserver kid?

Bily played for nearly two full seasons without a break, it will be interesting to see him in August.

Baines is an attacking full back with a quality delivery from set pieces. Whereas on our right we have had Hibbo and Pip, defensively sound but poor going forward, it will be good to see if Coleman gets a chance next season.

Duncan, I remember people laughing on this site last summer when people forecast that Shitee and Hawwy's side would do well this season. I remember comments like "You can't buy class" and "There's no history"... well here we are.....

On another note, I visit the US every year and spend a lot of time drinking weak beer in sports bars and there is more and more talk of soccer and more and more of it showing up on the screens...so I don't think it's so laughable mate.

Their American football stars and baseball stars were multi-mega-million dollar earners when the likes of Mick Lyons was driving around in his free sponsored Lada from the Bootle Lada dealership... so I think they have a bit of money to splash out.

This is the most frustrating topic for me as a Toffee's fan and the source of so much consternation....

Just how long have we been talking about building the right side of the team??? 5 years I believe (correct me if I'm wrong)...

There are only 11 starting players... Every season the manager has a chance to inspect where the team can improve and where there can be surplus to goods and thus players sold... How has the ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE been ignored for so long?

When we signed Bily I thought ok, nice one. Then he comes on and runs slower than my mum and looks less interested than my girlfriend. AND he's left footed and has played on the left side for most of his career (it'd be ok if he was a Robben type player).

Hopefully with Donovan here, the whole world can now see what we've known for 5 years. That, with a complete team, we can really compete at the top. I'm not having a go at Moyes, he's done a good job. I just want him to be great and so far in my book he's not quite there yet. Alarming lack of insight from this man.

Duncan - Would have responded sooner but haven't looked here since posting above.

So here goes. Right now, and for years, the goal in America was to have Europe/EPL signing our players. MLS being something our kids to aspire to professionally with Europe/EPL as the ultimate goal. In other words, MLS as a feeder league for Europe's top leagues; EPL being first.

That's the way it is now and we fans across the pond are with that, as the EPL is the top pro league on Earth (most especially, EFC signing our best guy, Landon).

10 years from now:

1. All MLS teams will have soccer only/first facilities.

2. MLS will move to the European club schedule.

3. You, and everyone else not in America, must be hallucinating a scenario where, in 2020, MLS owners think the best thing for the league is to be an EPL feeder league.
