Chile FA slam Torres
Comments (9)
It should be of no surprise to anyone that Harold Maynes-Nichols, the president of the Chile FA, should condemn Fernando Torres for his "lack of sportmanship" in getting Marco Estrada sent off last night in the Spain v Chile match. What was missed by our well-prepared commentators was the fact that Estrada was an ex-Everton player, having clocked up 84 games for the Ruleteros of Viña del Mar before moving on to Univesidad de Chile in 2006 and Montpellier this year.
Anyone wishing to congratulate Señor Maynes-Nichols in person for his astute assessment of the offending / offensive Torres can do so at Goodison Park on 4th August when the FA President will be one of the guests of honour at the Everton FC v CD Everton pre-season friendly.

Torres was definately culpable in getting Estrada sent off, it was a simple, "coming together"sorry for the (Grayspeak copied by Beglinspeak) but it really was accidental, the commentators/pannelists just don't mention Torres part in it, no anaylisis, "Torres is a cheating twat" etc just a case of "Hey-ho, let's not dwell on the fact Torres is a cheating Wanker"..... "What about Ineiesta's finish there, pannelists?"
"Great, sublime, I won't mention Torres cheating though, that might be a bit controversial."
Question: "Alan, are you an arsehole who says what 51% of footer fans want you to say instead of the obvious truths staring back at you?"
Answer from Hansen in a truly off-guard moment, "YES!"
John,
If you can, would you explain why there were no CD Everton players in the National Squad and why only 4 teams in Chile are represented in it - are the other teams all that bad?
The referee was the bad guy. Totally over-reacting as several have done so far in this World Cup. The referee only took a guess at what happened when he should have checked with a linesman or fourth official before issuing the card. What the hell good is it paying 3 other officials if they cannot help with ''dodgy incidents'' that refs do not see clearly? Fifa has 4 years to study all the referees before selecting them and they still get a percentage of morons who shouldn't even be refereeing kids' games.
How wasTorres a cheat? He got caught, accidentally, and went down. I never saw any card waving by him, or any rolling around theatrically, or asking the ref to send the lad off, so how did he have a hand in the sending off? He does go down, but he does acctually get tripped, even though it was accidental. The sending off was the refs decision.
We have one of the worst offenders for going down at the slightest touch, a certain Mikel Arteta, but when he does it, it's not cheating, it's being clever and winning us a free - kick, so whats the difference?
Torres is a twat. Who remembers his 2 ridiculos dives that got Marco Matterazzi sent off in a Champions League game at Anfield 2 years ago?
Brian Waring.
In his early days with us Arteta did tend to go dow easily, but soon sorted that out when he got 2 grips with the English game.
Ste Traverse, he still goes down at the slightest touch now. Also, that's got to be the worse excuse ever, he hadn't got to grips with the English game, what's that got to do with it?
Have to agree Brian that Arteta does go down easily and plays himself into areas he fancies a free kick from when he can't get past a player but that's been going on for years; a certain no eyed baldy bastard Engerland striker made a career of backing up into players and getting away with murder (currently talking utter bollocks as a WC pundit).
Ladyboy didn't go gesticulating for a card in that game but very often does when playing for the RS, suppose people just see him and think he's a cunt.
It's rubbish he goes down at the slightest touch even now, we'll have to argee to disagree. Moyes played him down the flanks for his first couple of years and then moved him to the centre of midfield once he'd got to grips with the English game and built up his strength, thus he goes down less.
Gerry, There are 6 Chilean players in their squad for the same reason there are 6 Argentines and 2 Uruguayans - they get paid far more abroad. Re Torres culpability in the sending off, I thought the fact he remained motionless on the floor did Estrada no favours. It appeared as if he had been shot or pole-axed.
