Who's this Gueye?

Comments (23)

Apparently we have bought or are about to buy another young striker:

Everton have agreed a fee with Strasbourg for striker Magaye Gueye, according to the France Under-21 international.

Sky Sports sources reported on Monday that Goodison Park officials had approached the French club with an offer of just under £1million for the 19-year-old.

Gueye said: "I was over the moon when I heard that Everton had agreed a fee with my club.

"I was so happy and I am looking forward to developing in the best league in the world."

Strange that Moyes has (if true) now bought three new strikers. Stranger still when you consider he usually only plays one.

Apparently this guy is absolutely rapid and can also play in midfield. My guess would be that Moyes perhaps see's him as the pacey winger we have been looking for. At 19, I would imagine he will be plying his trade in the reserves this season. At least to start with.

Good to see early business at least even if we are yet to make any 'marquee' signings, whatever they are.

4-3-3 anyone?

Neville-Jags-Heitinga-Baines
Fellaini
Pienaar-Arteta

Anichebe-Yakubu-Gueye

And back to reality...

It is good news because, despite unpleasant rumours about some of our other players, it is looking like so far we have actually strengthened our squad as well as added some potential. I am still awaiting the ‘one big signing’ though.

And despite the fact that your title is focused on ‘who he is’, it is also some relief from the, ‘who do you think you are?’ tone of other current threads.

Everyone know's fact found on the internet are true...

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/magaye-gueye/transfers/spieler_91956.html apparently hes already made the transfer.

Maybe Moyes is looking for a 4-3-3 option, although when we play it is a 4-5-1 with attacking wingers.

Simon, most reports are suggesting that he will sign on Thursday which is the 1st July and that link you have provided has declared his transfer as July 2010 so all seems to be in check.

I'm a bit concerned that this guy played for a club that got relegated from the 2nd tier of French football. I know Moyes has a good record for nurturing this kind of talent but surely there is a lower limit.

I'll not be too harsh until I've seen them for myself in the Premier League but the three outfield signings to date have all come from lower divisions in their respective leagues whereby we were all hoping for something a bit more... erm... what's the word??? Oh yes, Marquee!!!

I don't know anything about this lad but it seems to make a bit of sense, buying a young fast striker who can play midfield / out wide or up front.

Moyes is targeting players for his next Everton team which will undoubtedly be built around Fellaini and Rodwell. No point buying 31 year olds looking for one last high salary - we've decent squad for next season so why not buy players for the coming years when this lot have moved over.

We might see Mcgay Guy a couple of times next season but he'll make an impact further down the line.

Another signing for the future along with Silva. I'm not entirely sure we'll be making any 'marquee' signings however. Should Pienaar an Arteta move on then we'll get adequate replacements in. What ever funds are available will probably go towards offering them both improved contracts to stay.

He was supposedly recommended to Moyes by Gerard Houllier so, fuck me, he must be quality. We all know the bug eyed French genius had an inbuilt radar for spotting top class striking talent:- Heskey, Diouf, Baros, Erik Myer. Let's give him the number 9 shirt right now.

And Le Tallec, and Pognonne or whatever he was called. Yes, if recommended by old Beagle-Eyes I'm not exactly waiting with baited breath.

Now we are going to have Max Bygraves to contend with...

Personally I think this is great, 3 young pacy strikers in Beckford, Silva and Gueye signed early to provide cover, options and push the first team (and Anichebe) this season and hopefully at least one will make the grade.

Seriously though with Felliani, Rodwell and Anichebe already making the grade amidst an experienced first team, Coleman, Gosling and Baxter coming up and a collection of other youthful possibles like Agard, Duffy and Musatfi bolstered by these three and Mucha we're getting a brilliant balance of youth and experience.

Let's just hope we can hang on to the experience now, eh! If we could keep Arteta and Pienaar (and not lose Jags, Heitinga or Saha en route) plus land one more quality name, ideally a proper winger (cough-Donovan), then I think we'd be in awesome shape for the season

The only clip I could find of this guy on Youtube was a goal he scored in FIFA'10 on the Playstation. He ghosted in from the right wing and smacked in an unstoppable shot. He looks amazing based on this evidence!

Back to reality, 9 goals from 27 games (many as sub) for Strasbourg, and 8 in 21 at Youth International level seems a fair return for the young lad. It's another "wait and see" signing... which rhymes with "marquee" - but is actually a very different thing!

Jamie Sweet - in about 3 hours time I'm going to cook myself a big old time fry with a cup of tea and toast to celebrate that last post. Virtual genius.

I'm also mentoring Ciaran McGlone at the moment, would you mind if he studied you sty;le?

Ha. Mike and Jamie. Very nice.

On a serious note am beginning to get very excited for next season. Fingers crosses we have no transfer outgoings and no injuries.

Look forward to the young and new players getting a chance down under. Reckon Beckford is going to be banging them in pre season.

Normally you get very little for a million so it may be that Everton are buying way below the level of player that they need to. If one or two of these players actually produce the goods though it will have been shown to have been very good policy.

Around this time of the year, supporters of all clubs have expectancies of a better season than last. For many, it just doesn't happen. However, we Evertonians have good reason to expect more. DM has become more experienced as are many of the young blues players. Hopefully these lads will get good action in the pre-season games and some of the seasoned veterans will help push them along.

We hope to see a refreshed Fellaini and Anichebe make big impressions along with Mikel, Peanuts and Bily. Injuries were a big contributing factor in the first half of last season and, if we don't have many this coming season, then I reckon we have good cause for optimism.

Cheers Mike #15! I had a good old fry up the other day at my local. I managed to drop the tomato and bring in an extra sausage - straight swap - no cash plus tomato deal here. I kid you not... it was one of the most astute signings in recent memory!

Let's hope this Gueye lad proves to be as tasty!
