Rangers - would you take any of their players?

 21 Comments: First  |  Last

This may sound a bit like a vulture circling a dying or wounded aninal, but with what is going on over at Rangers and them having to release 11 players, are there any players over there you would take at Everton?

I think the free transfer window is still open so we could technically add to the squad...

I was thinking that Steve.

The only one I can think of at the moment is Sasa Papac, as cover for Baines.

Maybe Whittaker as the right back? There arent many and we've already got one of them!

Well the first two players out are a 20 year old winger and 21 year old attacking midfielder. Don't suppose it would hurt to give them a trial

In a year's time could we re-post this about Liverpool? I'm sure they're screwed with another year without CL. I wouldn't take any of their players though... but I'd offer £50,000 for the expensive bloke up-front for a laugh.

I'd take Gerrard and set him to cleaning the boots!

I'd love to see the shite go bust but the downside is that loads more pubs would shut...you know...those ones they all go to to watch the home games with their shirts on with Crown Paint or Carlsberg logos.

Can't move for the buggers in my local when Liverpool are at home...don't know where they all emerge from.

I read on another post (? the mersey juror) that the Jelavic deal involves an initial down payment of £1.5 million towards the agreed fee reported to be £5.5 million. Given the fact that Bily and Saha went out in the last window by my reckoning Everton must surely have banked money on those transactions and further reduced the wage bill in the process. Reading through the accounts of what went on at Rangers and Portsmouth it is evident that by borrowing against the club's assets that there is only going to be one result. I would hazzard a guess that we are still a hares breadth from a similar scenario at Everton and it is only the TV revenue and assets that remain within the playing squad that is keeping the wolves from the door and the avoidance of administration that was quite clearly hanging in the air all of last summer.

Gregg Whylde is a cracking wee left winger. I would take him... get it done, Moyes!

I'd imagine Peter that Liverpool still budget with CL qualification assumed.
Where as we are losing £5m per year which can be offset by a sale, they're missing out on the £30m+ they'd pick up from the CL benefits.

We couldn't afford to pick them up and they couldn't drop them off, so they would have to thumb a lift and start off on minimum wage.

Given thier situation, have we paid too much for Jelavic? makes you wonder, look at Kenny Miller and Boyd now.

Interesting reading Walter smith on bbc website saying he's never been at a club in administration but he came close, twice, with everton.

Joe (754) we didn't over-pay for Jelavic. We got him at a reduced price, given West Ham had supposedly offered £7m for him, but he didn't want to go and play at a similar level to the SPL...

I doubt Rangers will suddenly release a load of £5m+-rated platers.

Isn't it ironic how times have changed. Over 20 years ago, Rangers were the vultures who feasted on our exiled-from-Europe-carcase, taking Steven and Stevens and helping to dismantle our greatest ever team. I have a certain sympathy for them, but perhaps it takes a massive club to go under before the financial corruption in football is dealt with. I'd take Steven Whittaker, and maybe Wylde, but that would be it. The rest are top of League One standard.

Matt (895) West Ham are not a good example, they paid Wayne Bridge 90k a week thinking he'd keep them up!
