Season 2011-12

Attack, attack, attack!!!

 41 Comments: First  |  Last

I have just logged on to Paddy Power to see the blues quoted at 4/1 for a win at the devil's den tomorrow. They have the shite at 8/11.

They have lost five of their last eight, and we are unbeaten in nine. We are two points behind them, and every redshite I know are absolutely crapping themselves over this game.

We all know the reason for those ridiculous odds, our horrible record away at these teams. It is 42 goes now Dave against the old "top four".

Ten years in charge, we are safe in the League, our new striker has started on fire. Throw cation to the wind here please Davey, get rid of that nasty stain on your record ? and go out to WIN!!!

Judging by his comments about the Spurs game we won't go out looking for a draw.

I don't see this being all blood and thunder like the usual due to the FA cup games at the weekend. Should suit us as they have only beaten us recently when the ref has fiddled the game. Take that pathetic refereeing performance out the equation and we could easily be level or above them.

I'm looking nervously forward to it!

I hope so Kevin, if we lose we lose, but I'd LOVE for Moyes to baffle them (and us) by playing Jelli and Straq and for his team talk to be "fucking go at them!". They have one or two players who can do damage and Kuyt always works his plums off, but for the most part they lack real organisation and we should take full advantage of the fact that they'll be nervy as fuck given their shite home record.

Stephen @ 029 ? "....they have only beaten us recently after the ref has fiddled the game".

My dad told me yesterday that Howard Webb is the ref for this one.......need I say anymore......?

Just so hope Davey holds good to the tactics which have served him so well over the past ten years: Keep it tight and hope to nick one!

Everton going gung-ho ALWAYS results in a right thumping ? especially in derby games!

Logic says we won't win, but if we do it will be by a small margin.

BUT, if we do it could bring the wheels off the KK show for good. Not sure I'd want that but it'd be funny to see them turn on him, which they will.

But sods law and our Derby luck says we wont.
I hate Derbies and I'm just glad on these occasions that I no longer live on Merseyside!

I appreciate the sentiment but surely we should just play the same football that has worked so well for us over the last few months? Keep it tight and organised and try to counter quickly or work good positions when we can. The pressure will be on them and so we can do what we have done to some of the other big team, deny them space, frustrate them and then hit them when they are down.

Just because we'd all love to thump the shite lets not start trying to play a style of football that we have absolutely no experience in.

Sam - precisely why we never beat these teams. What's the point ? Our record shows this mindset never works.

We have had 42 attempts at " keep it tight " and we always come up short.

Didn't we just beat City, Chelsea and Tottenham with those tactics in the last few matches?!

If we were on a losing streak then i would say give it a go by all means but we are unbeaten in 9 so i say...more of the same please.

Liverpool made me laugh. 'A sign of things to come' after their magnificent penalty shoot out with Championship Cardiff and then go and lose a bunch of games. Sods law we'll get shafted somehow. Maybe its not as important as the cup, but finishing above the reds will make me a happier man.

Thats true. But still, it was that approach that worked. It just seems a strange time to me to be changing tactics.

Also, this whole team has been trained and working for the last few months succefully on a certain game plan, would seem unwise to suddenly try to change it all with a days preperation.

I'm not suggesting that we sit back mind you, but that we play like in the first half vs Spurs. Organised and calm at the back, closing down quickly and forcing errors and then breaking with pace and precision to create chances.

I have complained tabout poor and unattractive performances this season. We are now on a run of games and there is an air of confidence evident in the players. I want a similar performance to the first half against Spurs, but maintained through the whole game. That is not gung ho, keeping it tight but with creativity and purpose going forward and a genuine will to win the match.

I'd like to think that we'd go 4-4-2 and attack from the off and not give them any respect.

The reality though is that even if we did go 1-0 up, we will then sit deep and try and defend it for the remainder of the game, and you can't get away with that very often against decent opposition.

It's also just about stick-on that carroll or kuyt will somehow score against us when they can't against anyone else.

It's also too much to expect that our good and their bad run will continue any further. Therefore I'd be happy with a point to be honest...

Or, do I want to be vapourised by a ten megaton or six megaton nuclear weapon.

Just watched the Arse, a great night for Arteta easily motm. He was everywhere.

The RS play high tempo high pressure stuff with both backs using every opportunity to get forward. Pienaar and Drenthe can take advantage and I see those two having a good game.
My main concern is the Referee and how he reacts to those predictable Sewerage dives.

I wager that we'll see Jags back in defence and a disturbingly awful three man centre midfield of Fellaini, Neville and JH.

Anybody else see this link in the Guardian? :-

It's amazing. Now United have overtaken them, what matters is the size of their kit deal. It sounds like desperate stuff to me.

Please let us beat them tonight!
