What should we expect?

 Comments (16) jump to end

So how long should Roberto get? In a period of transition would a top half finish suffice? Would three years without a trophy mean it is time to go?

I think Martinez as an experienced Premier League manager will do well with better players. I do not believe there will be any threat of relegation. If,t hough, God forbid, we were bottom three at Christmas would it be reasonable to call for his dismissal?

I believe that whatever Martinez does in his first season he will get better. I will try an keep my expectations low and my patience high.... for a couple o games at least.

Professional pundits are already hammering Martinez over the Champions League thing. It seems our big gob chairman has managed to turn Ben Nevis into Mount Everest.

I think he needs at least one and a half seasons before we can judge him.

It depends how much he is going to change our way of playing, and what the player turnover will be. If he's going to revolutionise it then things will get worse before they get better. If he's going to tweak it then the transition will be less painful but the long term result may be less dramatic.

According to some of the TW experts we already have most of the players in place. All Roberto needs to do is make them push on more, and make exciting substitutions. So I would expect us to be flying from the off.

(Please note tongue is firmly in cheek)

Welcome ,Roberto, when you brought your team off after thrashing us, you would have felt the passion of Evertonians at our display, and you will be in no doubt about the mountain you are about to climb, we will never again crumble to ANYteam in such a manner- and that must be instilled into whatever team you pick.I for one wish you all the very best and look forward to seeing fast , exiting football this coming season, COYB, Gerry Killen , Brisbane .

Expect the next level - which is Europa League + then CL.
Are we afraid of it - are we man enough - are we ready as a club ?
We're not far off it thanks to DM.
Btw - do we stick with IMWT ?

Let's hope he doesn't have a nightmare start like this one, eh?

I wonder if Roberto will bring in the youth as soon as possible? Barkley etc. And what about John Stones? Don't forget, Wigan had a deal agreed for him on deadline day and was at Wigan's ground until we gazumped them. So Stones is obviously a player Roberto had high hopes for! I think we finally might of seen the end of Leon Osman as a guaranteed starter.

How many seasons out of the last 5 or 6 were we near or in the bottom 3 at the end of Oct??

If all turns Mike Walkeresque and we are still there at the end of Nov, then a good hard look will need to be taken to assess if we are bottoming out and there IS light at the end of the tunnel or if we ARE in an uncontrolable ground rushing towards us and even the blackbox recorder is looking for a parachute.

Then and only then is there a need for drastic action.

Like I said at the top how many times in the last 5 or 6 seasons were we near the bottom at the end of Oct.

Don't Panic

Yet.

Roberto said at the press conference that he would keep our team doing the things they are good at,and he mentioned our home record.

The way I'm looking at it that if I had made errors in my last job I would be
be doing my best not to repeat them when I been given shot at one of the best clubs in the country. I'm sure we're in for a good season

We are Everton. We should expect success and silverware.
Anything else is failure

If anyone is so early, Derek, they are psychologically ill and not really suited for footy ! Try bowls

Don't think he'll get 5 mins he either hits the road running or the knives will be out.

The "not my choice but behind him 100%" and similar would get "prefer you were in front so I can see what you're doing" from me.

Too many with an axe to grind for various reasons the spectre of Benitez followed by Woy echoes around the forums - not good at all.

It's important that we give him time. As regards the "relegation issue" and Wigan always struggling — I don't think many people brought up Oldham's relegation struggles when Joe Royle was appointed manager in 1994.

If,after 11 years,he has not won any trophies we can politely ask him to leave.
