Thank Christ we have the whole manager thing sorted out. I have mixed feelings about Martinez on my part but I am will to give him the benefit of the doubt.
What I am most happy about is the fact that I can get back to having my usual close season, which is where I faff about the place reading football websites and the back pages of the papers, stare blankly at Sky Sports News, sulk about not having any football to watch, making do with the G.A.A Championship here in Ireland and generally be at a loose end and annoy my wife because of it.
Between now and mid-August when the new season kicks off I will also be obsessing about all things Everton, including transfers, club finances, pre-season friendlies, (decent ones for a chance as it happens), whether or not will I be off for the first weekend of the new season, who's saying what on ToffeeWeb and where I am going on holidays and what beer will I drink when I get there.
Just read the post back and I don't know whether to get depressed or not. Do I ever hate the close season.

The end of September at least.

Did any of you want any of their relegated players before RM was appointed? Seems like a weird way of thinking to me.
501 Posted 06/06/2013 at 14:39:01
I don't see why Everton should not be interested in relegated players? Personally, I'd like Remy, if the allegations about him are bullshit and was impressed with Ceasar. Not all players from relegated teams were to blame for their respective club's failures.
518 Posted 06/06/2013 at 16:18:15
Personally I don;t believe any of them are much kop. McManaman has a bad attitude, and one of his tackles earlier in the season was nothing short of shocking.
Yeah he has some ability, but he's a raw one-trick pony in my opinion - dropping your shoulder and running fast worked well for Theo Walcott for about a year too but he soon got found out.
As for Kone - well he's 29 and scored 11 goals in 33 games last year.
It's fair to say we have enough mediocre players at Everton already.

I hope I've misread your post....
.....are you saying you wouldn't have Remy (if he's innocent) at Everton?!??
524 Posted 06/06/2013 at 17:09:56
Why on earth would a manager with this massive ambition go back to the small mediocre club, relegated under his tenure and put together with cast offs who have shown themselves up as a team able to motivate themselves for a big cup game every 3 weeks from January
Mcmanaman is Coleman 3 years ago, kone? I think people have a strange understanding of football if they want this fella to shoot us into the champions league
Truth is there is not one player at that club who would improve any position in our strongest side
As for Remy? Another overpaid mercenary(he signed for QPR ffs) giving black players a bad name
That's all for now......god it's hot!!!
527 Posted 06/06/2013 at 17:28:33
He's an overrated mercenary (as mentioned above) who thinks he's way better than he really is.
He strikes me as being another of those players with a bad attitude - there's an awful lot more to signing players than just their ability in my opinion. It isn't just about what they can do with a football - you have to consider their temperament, attitude, background, family life, etc etc.
Remy? No thanks.
529 Posted 06/06/2013 at 17:36:53
McCathy is also on the radar of Spurs, Arsenal etc
From QPR Remy and Cesar will go on to big clubs. To discard players from relegated teams is stupidity of the highest order. Sides that go down always have their best players cherrypicked.

Wigans best player for the last few seasons has been James McCarthy and I think he would be an improvement in that he is a slightly superior version of Gibson, or so the stats suggest.
However Gibson is still solid, McCarthy will likely be expensive and I think a striker or maybe playmaker is where we most lack.
If Martinez can find something like Michu and (a cheaper) Cazorla that would be nice!
532 Posted 06/06/2013 at 17:46:51
I don't rate McManaman based on him playing well for 10 games. Give him another year to develop and we'll see - right now he's raw and only has one trick. You seem (seem) to be basing your opinion on two games, and one goal.
He needs to prove it for longer - we've all seen loads of players come & go and Everton won't splash the cash on players unless they know they're getting proven ability proven over time.
From what I remember, Walcott, Coleman and McManaman all play on the right.
534 Posted 06/06/2013 at 17:49:22
You were obviously watching a different game as we never got to the semi final did we
Just being pedantic forgive me,however I stand by what I said,McManaman is a chicken with no head but if you know he's heading for great things can you get me the euro lottery numbers for Friday
Cheers!!

I won't say in place of who, as its my opinion, so I will keep it to myself.
541 Posted 06/06/2013 at 18:21:51
Would he improve our strongest team?
Roberto can actually set his standards a little above the standards of Wigan Athletic now

Didn't we once sign a Polish-sounding fella from Sheffield United in the summer of 2007 ?
How did that one turn out then ?
Instead of labelling such players as "failures" for playing badly enough to get their team relegated, how about viewing them as needing a fresh start, and having a point to prove.
For what it's worth, I would happily welcome McManaman to Goodison. He would certainly improve our right hand side, has more than one trick, and can catch pigeons. We can't afford the finished article, so this is the type of player that we need to take a calculated gamble on.
621 Posted 06/06/2013 at 18:04:07
In my humble opinion yes, because as a player, McCarthy is a box to box player for 90minutes, not a 65/70 min like the man in possession for most of Moyes tenure.
And the chance of Moyes taking him to Old Trafford, is Zilch.
659 Posted 06/06/2013 at 20:54:59
I seem to remember the polish sounding fella struggling when he first came and kept our bench warm when he wasn't doing an appalling job in midfield, the centre half thing was more luck than anything
And Norman whatever you say,he's box to box really? Like you said opinions and all that, who does he replace from our STRONGEST team?

Play "Spot the typo(s)"?
In all seriousness it will be good to get away from the manager speculation - it's been like groundhog day for weeks.
I don't think we'll ever be truly rid of him though. You just know the MOB will be all over his every dropping of points at OT, the Apologists vice versa, and God forbid if he does come calling for our players - may be time to go TW Cold Turkey then!
