Mirallas comes alive under the lights

Young Belgian admits he's still not 100% fit
“I've always preferred playing night games myself,” Kevin Mirallas said after his vibrant display against Newcastle. “That's a personal preference of mine and I've been fortunate to have now played two games at Goodison, both at night. It's a fantastic atmosphere and you always get the feeling that the fans are right behind you. Let's hope they continue to be behind us all season.”

Mirallas believes he is still not at full match fitness, but when he is Blues fans will see him really start to sparkle.

“I'm still conscious I'm not 100 per cent fit yet and I think I still need maybe two or three more games to get that full match fitness.

“I've been ready to work really hard. The main reason that I am hopefully settling in quite well and quite quickly is the fact that I'm really prepared to go all out — both in training and on the field.”

David Moyes added: “He had three or four chances which he made himself. He will give us another attacking player who looks like he may have a goal in him. He scored a lot of goals in Greece and I think you could see that against Newcastle. Hopefully a few will go in for us.”

The young Belgian has also learned about the inconsistencies of refereeing in the Premier League, after Everton were denied victory and third place in the table by two poor decisions.

“The disallowed goals were a shame,” he added, “but you can never really contest a referee or a linesman's decision. That's football and that's sport.

“Sometimes it goes for you and others it goes against you. It would have certainly been three points for us if those goals had counted.”

This guy is the real deal. £6m will be more than doubled if we ever sell him. A consistent Drenthe. Jimmy must be planning adultery.

Sounds like a good reason to get European football next season, that will give him a few night games.

All our recent buys have been positive for a change. Now we have more than one attacking option. My only negative is the size of the squad: it's much too small to be able to compete satisfactorily in both the Premier League and domestic cups. For European football we need many more proven squad players to be able to cope with the added games that requires.

We loan out shedfulls of players every season and leave ourselves exposed if injuries and suspensions come along. We tend to play first teamers out of position due to the lack of specialists. How can we expect to really compete with the top teams who have benches filled with players who would get first team football with us?

We are playing Gibson as often as he is fit, whereas at Man Utd he hardly got a game. Pienaar is a star at EFC and could not get a game at Spurs. If either of those two are missing we suffer as a team which indicates the relative strengths of our competitors.

I reckon we do really well without having the finances available to most opposing clubs. DM gets criticised tactically but his hands are tied. He definitely gets the best out of the players he has available to him and we are now playing the most entertaining football for years.

This season we have lost Cahill, Bily, Beckford and the Yak so our squad is actually smaller than ever. We have 18 available with Oviedo not yet here. That is including the injured Gibson and the hope that Jelavic is sufficiently recovered to play at the weekend.

Oviedo and Gibson will both need to be brought up to match fitness so it will be well into October before either of them are available. Let's just hope that we don't lose anymore players to injury and stop having pipe-dreams.

That's the harsh reality under Kenwrong Brian.

Next transfer window will probably be Fellaini, the one after that it will probably be a toss up from Baines, Mirallas and Jelavic

Col – you can only sell assets not libilities. Bill is no asset.

Looks to have pace skill quick feet and isn't afraid to shoot. One reservation, he needs to be aware of whats going on around him. It might be eagerness to please but he had three occasions when blues were screaming in good shooting positions, he didn't see em and went solo.

John - agreed. He could've played in the pass a couple of times on Monday, but took the shot. At least he is prepared to have a go, sometimes we do look to over-play.
