Rodwell glad with move to Man City

Jack Rodwell has declared he is glad he joined Manchester City from Everton and rejected suggestions that young English players do not get a fair chance at the Etihad Stadium.

Rodwell has no regrets over his switch and does not feel his opportunities are limited by joining the champions.

"I'm young and English. I've not got a bad word to say about City," said Rodwell. "If they want you and sign you, then they have got intent for you.

"I was not guaranteed a starting place at Everton. I had a lot of injuries, Darron Gibson and Marouane Fellaini were in form, so it was a push for me to get in that side."

Rodwell has made five Premier League appearances for City since his arrival from Everton and the England Under 21 international admits he is still adapting to his new surroundings.

"It has been hard to adjust," added Rodwell. "I was at Everton from the age seven.

"Being there 14 years meant any move was going to be big. The methods and styles are very different. The respective managers are very different. The standard of training is amazing."

And we all are glad to see the back off him. Also, I love that EVERY time he has played for Man City he makes a bad pass or touch and loses possession, then City concede a goal. Latest one was against Dortmund.

Money, money, money... must be funny... in a rich man's world.

Good luck to the lad; pragmatic but l wonder what he meant by the comment regarding the standard of training being amazing? The players or the coaching... Sounds like a gulf in either or both.

If he makes it there, he has a great future as an England player. Playing with better players will make him better too. Sadly, it's the best move... but he has to step up to it.

I think fair enough and good luck. As he admits he was finding it tough to get past Felli and Gibbo and therefore was not getting a look in here, surely it was a no-brainer to double his money and try his luck up the road. Not least when the manager gives the green light as it made sense all round.

Moyes looks to have invested the proceeds very wisely and so job well done all round. Good luck Jack, just please slip in another backpass for Jelly to net please when you get a run against the team that shaped you as a footballer from age 7.

Christine, City fans are already on his case, it may be a better move financially but will he turn out a better player hardly getting a game? Rooney has not in my opinion turned out as good as I thought he would; Baines has not done too bad staying put at Everton either.

So JR couldn´t make the XI for us and plays more for Citeh. Draw your own conclusions. Well done Moyes for selling at an OTT price just as with JL. Cred to DM for sensible reinvestment. Like him or not, DM finds good players with the money he has available.

Brian (280) just to avoid that whole 'have I changed the subject?' area.

Just before you press 'submit', have a quick read through and if you see anything not relevant that could take things in a totally different direction - say for instance "Like him or not DM finds good players with the money he has available" (ie: stuff that could have people posting things like "What about fucking Krøldrup and AvdM!?") and simply delete BEFORE sending.

I only say this as I can see you're genuinely concerned.

Never got the Rodwell thing; everything about him was tidy and ordinary but, like all our youngsters, he got hyped to the heavens.

Hope he proves me wrong because he's not the usual brainless dolt that British football regularly churns out but, as it stands, we absolutely mugged City.

Be interesting a bit more detail on his "training" comments, I reckon Pienaar is 20% improved for spending time at Spurs.

Eugene. I have seen Krøldrup play in the Italian league and internationals. The man was quality. It seems that he couldn't stand DM and his hoofball tactics which were prevalent at the time. Football knowledgeable acquaintances here in Sweden congratulated me on a smart and value for money signing.

AvdM was a fantastic player when he wanted to be. See his performances for Inter M which got him picked for Holland. Shame that he had gotten board with football when he signed for us and could not stand the disciplines invoked by DM.

All managers suffer from buys which don´t pay off. After ten years, compare the successes with the failures. I have criticised DM for many things. However, when it comes to player purchases, he has few peers.

Ah yes, we were talking about Rodwell being happy with his move. So what has he accomplished there? Got a couple start right off the bat, gave the ball away leading to goals against. His playing time has pretty much dried up now, coming off the bench for the last minute or so the last time I saw. When he was healthy and playing for us he had made it up to the senior England team, now he is back down with the under 21's with the likes of Jordan Henderson and some striker from Bolton. And he apparently just did his hamstring again. And what happened to that other guy Gosling???

My estimation of Gosling's ability sounds about the same as yours Brian - as a player, nothing more than average.

However I probably didn't cheer quite as loud as you, due to the fact that the club fucked up, lost money, then did the usual 'get on to the Echo and tell them to give it the disloyal player smokescreen'.

A smokescreen as I remember, swallowed hook, line and sinker by many.

I thought Rodwell had all the makings of a top player. I was sorry to see him go but I fear that he is destined to be one of these players whose potential will be limited by perennial injury problems. That's a shame and I wish the lad well. Not sure how Dan Gosling or david Moyes transfer record got into this thread but I do wonder about the much vaunted production of young talent from our academy. Ignoring the bleeding obvious example how many have come through and gone on to have proved their potential?

At what point is it the academy and what point is it the player just doesn't kick on?

Rodwell made it, I don't see what more the youth staff could do.
