Blue Bill strikes the right note

It was Everton Chairman, Bill Kenwright, who selected 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' for the Blues' tribute to the 96 fans who died at Hillsborough when the Club paid tribute earlier this season.

And now the Justice Collective's version has a good chance of being the Christmas number one as the public buys up the single in support of the Hillsborough Justice campaign.

“I remember we battled with that [the decision over whether or not to play 'You'll Never Walk Alone' at Goodison Park] and then, all of a sudden, I thought, ‘Hang on a minute — what about He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother'?", Kenwright says in The Mirror.

“The song just seemed to sum up everything about the relationship between Everton and Liverpool.”

“Whatever anyone says, there has always been a closeness between Everton and Liverpool,” said the great theatre impresario.

“Sure, there is a rivalry — we all know they want us to lose and we want them to lose — but there has always been that affinity.

Just seen Kenwright before in London — he told me that Everton won 2 - 1 and Gibson got sent off. Didn't believe a word of it.

I know Andy. He told thousands of us one time, and i'm not joking like, that Goodison would not get a safety certificate. No shit!

I think he guesses most of the time and, quite rightly, thinks the majority of our sheep, er fans, will believe him. Spot on today though eh?

Well the song has achieved it's aim of becoming Christmas No.1 selling 269,000 copies.

Well done to all those involved.
