David Moyes: Draws could cost us

“The fact of the matter is we've played well enough to threaten those top positions in the league. There will be a lot of games at this time of year where you will have to find a way of winning and picking up points, because everybody is trying. Today, we just couldn't find that way."

And it continues...

“I think for all clubs, with the exception of maybe three or four, getting to 40 points as quickly as you can is always the big thing. Then you can look at what else you can do after that.

“We're getting close to that now (Everton have 37). And the questions I get asked by the media (now) suggest that expectations are maybe changing at Everton.”

Jesus... now he's imposing this negative bollocks on everyone else (bar three of four) in the fucking league!!!

I think the key point is: "Then you can look at what else you can do after that."

We already have 37 points. There are a further 48 up for grabs in the remaining 16 games.

My God...it seems that every word DM speaks is examined to find negativity. 40 points IS the priority and anything else is a bonus!

We consistently do better than most other clubs with a fraction of their spending. Up until today we have done no business other than extend players contracts who we want to keep. We do need two or three good players to bolster up our small squad for the run in to hopefully get us into Europe.

BUT DM always is cagey and that is his nature, he wants the best for Everton like any other fan but financial restraints are not giving him anywhere near a level playing field. I want him to stay and build on this first eleven to continue improving. They are playing the best and most entertaining football for donkey's years.

He seems surprised about expectations beyond the 40 points yet persists in playing the stiffs in the cups as though going for CL qualification.

A truly bizarre fellow.

How many "stiffs," played against the mighty Cheltenham, Barry?

Michael and Barry your dislike of Moyes is so tedious and anti-Everton in my opinion, and that's the polite version!

Of course he targets safety and then onwards. If you were leading my Everest expedition I would have shot you by now!

If you don't think Champions League is a tough assignment for our club then I think you have unrealistic expectations. Moyes is a victim of having raised the bar so much that it looks easy to take the next step to you.

I am prepared to eat my words if the next manager comes in with the same off field situation and does better but I honestly can't see it

Kevin I suggest you look to the Leeds game then peruse his previous seasons antics, perhaps cheltenham means he's learned.

It took him 10 years to learn how to produce decent football perhaps he just fell off the wagon at Elland rd.

Ben you have an interesting solution to people you don't agree with, mad of course like your spoof CL tale - who said it was easy?

It's the cups!! the cups!!

(feel like quasimodo now)

Depressingly CL doesn't look like happening. 16 games left, with away games at Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge, Emirates, White Hart Lane, Anfield. It's going to need a hell of a change on previous seasons to stay in touch.

I appreciate everyone else has to play these games, but ours are all away.

Surely you will recall that Moyes's team featured Coleman, Heitinga, Distin, Neville, Jelavic, Fellaini, Pienaar, Anichebe, Mirallas, etc..Barry?

Junior...yes; but he was replaced at half time.

"It took him 10 years to learn how to produce decent football."

Wow. Didn't you also assert that Moyes does little other than avoid relegation?

Kev, I see it as balance to the trumpeting of "challenging for european places" instead of what it really is - mid table.

Upper mid table still equates to no prize, no cups and.. but most importantly no relegation

I can see us picking up somewhere between 15-17 points from our home games. Depending on how we do in our away games will determine whether we get 4th. I believe Moyes will have to break that 11 year hoodoo by taking more than just a point from either Stamford Bridge, Anfield, Emirates and Old Trafford. Unless we take maximum points on the road against Norwich, Sunderland, Southampton and Spurs, which I highly doubt, then we'll need a win against ONE maybe two of 'those' 4. 68-70 point will roughly be the required total for 4th. I just don't see it.

The opportunity to put day light between us and the chasing pack was put to death when Everton could not finish off weaker teams by scoring and defending properly.

Also, there were no suitable back ups when Gibson and Mirallas got injured, while Everton's opponents can go out and spend money on new players.

Ben Dyke (735):

"Michael and Barry, your dislike of Moyes is so tedious and anti-Everton in my opinion, and that's the polite version!"

Can you please tell me in plain English why disliking Moyes (and, by the way, I don't think it's dislike of Moyes, as you put it, but dislike of what he does or doesn't do) makes someone 'anti-Everton'? Come on, justify it, if you can. That is an entirely moronic statement of the highest order.

Guess what, I don't like the prime minister but guess what, I'm not anti-English. In other words, and read this carefully, justifiable criticism of the man at the helm does not make you anti-something: my 4-year-old nephew sees that. And there is plenty of scope and scale to criticize Moyes but guess what that can actually be energized by desperate love of Everton, okay? How dare you even insinuate that MK and BR are somehow anti-Everton or that you are somehow, as this is the implication, a better blue.

Get off your ass then soft lad, and spend long hours operating a site for blues to debate and discuss coz they care deeply for their club.

It's people like you who conceptualize things in binary polarities who are the main cause of trouble on this site. Us and them, Moyes admirers and Moyes critics, singing Moyes's praises and being pro-Everton and criticizing Moyes and being anti-Everton.

Grow up soft lad, try and be a little smarter and a little less reductionist and quite frankly silly in future.
