Another 90 minutes for Jagielka

Leighton Baines was withdrawn after just half an hour of England's 2-2 draw with Brazil at the Maracana Stadium last night but Phil Jagielka played the full 90 minutes for a second successive game.

Baines got the nod ahead of Ashley Cole after starting on the bench against Ireland last week but his chance to impress Roy Hodgson was cut short by injury.

Jagielka, meanwhile, enhanced his prospects of keeping his starting berth for the Three Lions' next World Cup qualifiers with another good display at the heart of the defence.

"Getting to play two lots of 90 minutes definitely helped," the Everton skipper said after the game in Rio.

"I came here to play as many minutes as I could and thankfully I got two games and so did Gaz [Cahill].

"It's always nice to try and strike up a partnership. We have not played that many games together.

"The two tests we have had have been completely different but they have been two great tests and hopefully we will go back now, start next season well and hopefully put up a good shout for next season."

England's campaign to reach the Finals in Brazil next year resumes in September with games against Moldova and Ukraine.

Nice to think after the Brazilians banging their drums at GP back in the World Cup of 1966 up in the Bullens that Everton players are banging the drum for our great club the in Brazil many moons later.

Well, that was the worst Brazilian team I've ever seen. I think Scolari will be given the heave-ho well before the World Cup. All this excitement and hyperbole around Neymar, nothing special yet.

I've seen Neymar in the two England games, he looks poor, very lightweight.

I watched the Brazil v England game from the 1970 world cup the other day. Brought back great memories of true Evertonians Brain Labone and Tommy Wright. Wrighty worked with my brother after he retired and by all acounts was a modest and loyal guy. Tommy Wright was the player Pele out jumped with that famous header and save from Gordon Banks. He was sure Pele had give him a nudge just before he jumped!!

Incredible to think how much players of that generation would command now in transfer fees and salaries.
