Everton continue to be linked with a move for their namesake Everton Soares, with some Brazilian media outlets suggesting that a deal is close.
The speculation appears to be very much media-driven, though, with almost nothing by way of corroboration from the reputable sources in England, and it fails to take into account Carlo Ancelotti's no-nonsense declaration last week that, "all the names in the newspapers are wrong."
Soares has been talked about in relation to a move to Goodison Park for a few weeks now but it has ramped up in recent days following an assertion made by Zero Hora journalist, Pedro Ernesto Denardin, who claimed that agent Gilmar Veloz was flying to Merseyside to hold face-to-face talks with representatives from the club.
The player himself recently announced on social media, however, that "only agent Márcio Cruz is authorised to deal with matters relating to my career. Any other type of information that links me to other professionals is wrong.”
Nevertheless, OUL say that Everton are ready to submit a formal £30m offer for Soares next week while Bruno Flores of Brazilian Radio Grenal has also tweeted that negotiations are “well advanced”.
Updated Later reports would suggest that the interest was serious, with the player himself quoted on a call he got from Carlo Ancelotti, and talking of his friendship with Richarlison:
“He asked me how I was doing, if I was interested in playing at the club. It's a great club, a great opportunity. A great coach too, I will surely learn a lot from him,” said Everton Soares (via Globo Esporte).
“I have a friendship with Richarlison, I was able to play together with him. He ended up knowing about Everton's interest and called me. I was happy, it's a great club, a great coach too. A coach that whoever plays with him will learn a lot. I am also happy for these contacts.”
Globo Esporte writes that Everton wanted to sign the Brazilian now, but Financial Fair Play was an issue. Now a summer attempt ‘isn't ruled out', and the player had some details of how the talks had been going.
“Nothing came to Grêmio, but people linked to the club sought me out, approaching, to find out about the interest. Even for bureaucratic reasons nothing got to Grêmio. It's something that I try not to disturb myself with.
“I dream of playing in Europe, but I can't let that anxiety get in the way. At the moment it doesn't materialise, I'm a Grêmio player. I have to do my best here. I will always try to honour the shirt, until the last game here.”

He could become a real talisman for our club, simply because he was blessed with such an awesome name. I've never wanted a player to join us more than with this fellow. Everton forever!

This guy seems to have excited the fan base before we've even signed him. Wouldn't take much if he signs for him to become the teams figurehead and icon.

Not only that, he bought a load of Brazil Nuts, so read into that what you will, but that swings it for me. 🤔😋

I'm ordering my Everton-on-Everton shirt right now.

He's known as Cebolinha (or Jimmy 5 in English) due to his likeness of the comic book character in 'Monica's Gang' - a very popular Brazilian comic.
The guy is class. May take some time to adapt, which is why I'd like us to get him now rather than the summer. But he'd be one heck of a signing. In 3/4 years, Richarlison and this guy with DCL and Kean - that is potentially one heck of an attack.

Jay, may be able to give some further insight on this story and the players credentials.
In Carlo and Marcel we trust.

Indeed, Globo Esporte - the largest media outlet in Brazil - quotes the Gremio board as being 'emphatic' that they have not received any offers for the player at all.
It does go on to say, rather coyly, that offers are expected before the close of the European transfer window.
The gossip from other sources says it's 25 million Euros, rising to 30 million with add ons. But basically, it's recycling what you are all probably reading in English.
Anybody who has read my previous biogs on the boy know what an impact I believe he could have on the team, so naturally I'm hoping there is some truth behind it all.
But I must repeat again, it's nothing concrete at all.

Is UOL a reliable source?? Or is it all bull
25 Posted 24/01/2020 at 21:44:09
I was searching ESPN and Globo before and there is nothing mentioning us that I could see. again, like Jay I hope this happens, but again I won't get my hopes up.
What does encourage me is that he apparently has a great relationship with Richarlison.
In terms of his position, I really think this is secondary. The guy is qualify with a capital Q.
I'm certain he could play alongside DCL in the current 4-2-2-2, or in Bernard's position on the left. I see no reason why he couldn't develop and also play on the right (currently held by Walcott).
He's young, but already has a taste for silverware and has proven in big stadiums in the big games.
But let's just wait and see.

Just looking at his stats, most games at LF/W, most effective at LF/W and he'd want the #11 shirt as that is what he has worn for most of his career.
The quoted price is $25m with sell ons to $35m online which is just shy of £20m, rising to £27m. Still doesn't fix the problem of a RMF/F/W
29 Posted 24/01/2020 at 22:46:26
I am sure there will be a rush of moves by the 31st. but not sure Everton will be involved in any.
30 Posted 24/01/2020 at 23:13:33
Richarlison, Bernard and Iwobi (and Gordon?) all favour the left wing spot.
Brands even said recently that they were looking for right sided players, and there are some very good ones out there. I reckon the only way this would happen is if Brands thought it represented great value (ie cut price) or if it were a loan to buy deal (which seems highly unlikely).

Cebolinha = Little Onion...
Due his head and hair...

33 Posted 25/01/2020 at 00:46:13
Seems to have bags of ability. There are other areas where we need reinforcements more but I think he would be a sound investment, just hope were not selling Richarlison to balance the books.
Cebolinha is a right footed left winger so could play opposite Richarlison either side of DCL or Kean in a threesome however I feel like that would be a retrograde step because we seem onto something with Richarlison and Dom up front and, in that case, I cant see him having enough defensive balance, or propensity to cross, to his game to play as a wide midfielder in a four.
34 Posted 25/01/2020 at 07:55:56
Makes sense commercially as well, I reckon. That seems to be important these days.

Everton Soares is nicknamed due to the likeness, mainly the hair. But it is because of the cartoon character, not because of spring onion (Cebolinha doesn't translate as little onion, but spring onion).
There is even a photo somewhere with Everton Soares posing with the Cebolinha (cartoon character) caricature - the cartoon character always carried a bunny stuffed toy : https://globoplay.globo.com/v/7174152/

42 Posted 25/01/2020 at 14:26:44
We can't call him Everton because that will be confusing straight away, He doesn't get called Soares but gets called Cebolinha because he looks like a spring onion character that translates as Jimmy 5 as well as a Spring onion or little onion.
More importantly as Fran @25 says he looks like qualify with a capital Q!!
Predictive text eh, don't you love it.
43 Posted 25/01/2020 at 14:33:47
Wasnt Jimmy 5 Gazzas obese drinking buddy?
44 Posted 25/01/2020 at 15:06:34
I don't think he went near too many spring onions!! That's it settled, if he signs hell be known " affectionately " as Jimmy 5 bellys.
45 Posted 25/01/2020 at 15:41:50
"Jimmy 5 Bellys" sounds like a classic Sam Allardyce type no nonsense lump up top.
46 Posted 25/01/2020 at 21:52:18
Our central midfield boys need to come back from injury strong, but I still think we need a reinforcement in there now. I think this will be the extent of our January business. A deal for Soares may be made in advance of a summer move.
47 Posted 26/01/2020 at 22:51:01
We have other midfielders who may in due course compensate for Siggy such as Iwobe who I agree could slot in well in due course when the others return and under Carlo's influence.
Bernard is another who has started to perform better so we could be cautiously optimistic for next season.
48 Posted 26/01/2020 at 23:19:06
Im optimistic for the future but I hope we get players whom will enhance our squad rather than add to the pile of dead wood.
If we Getz Everton, great, but its goons be some covert signing, as the window, draws to a close.
Hopefully some nice surprises for EFC, this window.
