Sean Dyche and his backroom team are taking a squad of 28 first-team and fringe players out to this week's training camp in Switzerland.
But the squad departed without captain Seamus Coleman, who is staying back at Finch Farm to work on his rehabilitation from injury having sustained a medial knee ligament injury back in May.
Also missing are Mason Holgate, Vitalii Mykolenko, and Jean-Philippe Gbamin along with those who have been involved with international football: Demarai Gray, James Garner, and Jarrad Branthwaite.
Holgate has been sidelined with a minor injury, as has Mykolenko, who is undergoing treatment after suffering a setback. Gbamin remains under rehabilitation for an injury picked up while on loan at Trabzonspor last season.
The squad will spend 5 days in the Alps, culminating with a friendly away to Swiss second-tier side Stade Nyonnais at their Stade de Colovray ground on Friday (kick-off 6 pm local time, 5 pm BST).
Everton’s 28-man squad: Dele Alli; Ryan Astley; Dominic Calvert-Lewin; Tom Cannon; Billy Crellin; Lewis Dobbin; Abdoulaye Doucouré; Ben Godfrey; André Gomes; Idrissa Gueye; Liam Higgins; Mackenzie Hunt; Alex Iwobi; Michael Keane; Katia Kouyate; Andy Lonergan; Neal Maupay; Dwight McNeil; Stanley Mills; Francis Okoronkwo; Amadou Onana; Tyler Onyango; Nathan Patterson; Jordan Pickford; James Tarkowski; Joao Virginia; Lewis Warrington; Reece Welch.

Mackenzie Hunt could be a surprise, he's been around for years, had a few injuries, was a decent midfielder once but has been used as a left-back the last 18 months or so. He's a very good passer of the ball with a good left foot. Maybe Dyche sees the potential that has always been there and can do something with it.
4 Posted 10/07/2023 at 12:08:04
I've said a few times before, if we can get Calvert-Lewin on the field for most of the matches, then we will be a few places higher than last season, but I suppose that's pretty obvious.
If Dyche is given enough money to spend, I'm very confident that we will get north of 40 points.
The thing is, we have no idea what the finances of the club are like or whether we will be penalised by the powers that be, and that means that most of our speculation is purely hot air.

Gbamin's agent has decided he can do better so no surprise there then!! Wonder why Mykolenko not there?
Guess we hope and pray Calvert-Lewin's trip to Germany was successful. Assume he wouldn't be there otherwise… 🤷ðŸ»â€â™‚ï¸

People complain about illness, low wages, wars etc but this guy is a real victim. Puts all our troubles into perspective.
9 Posted 10/07/2023 at 13:15:14
Regarding the others who haven't travelled, won't be easy to sell, considering their big wages?

Everton surrender long-term prospects to meet short-term necessities.
I know that a fair few have been left at home, but that twenty-eight-strong squad looks a tad threadbare to me and the number of academy players is not necessarily a ray of hope.

I guess that we would all hope that a number of them will move on before the start of the season.
Let's hope that some of the younger players shine and secure a place on the bench which initially at least would give us all some hope.

At least Morpay has a nice new gray hair cut.
Big Everton squad, since when, and what is it made up of? So out of this BIIIG everton squad I would count maybe ten who would start against Fulham.
Big squad? God help us if that's our squad come August first game.

The fact SD had 2 keepers on the bench for the last few league matches was his way of hinting that he wants the club to support him with better options. I agree 100% with him and hope we put out a team for the first match as good as this club deserve...

Townsend, 31, has earned 13 England caps but missed the entirety of last season because of a knee injury.
I thought he had retired, fucking sly arse gets £70k a week for doing nothing for over a year, then walks for nothing, then signs for Burnley. Now wait for the Once a Blue brigade wishing him all the best.

Top fitness and team spirit, and hopefully a few of the kids will emerge as squad players.
32 Posted 10/07/2023 at 15:55:29
Surprised Seamus hasn't travelled. Is he still having treatment?
Add Garner and Branthwaite to that squad and the starting 11 is not too shabby.
The only worry as ever is that there is no cover for injuries especially goalscoring and left-back.
Midfield looks strong as long as we keep Onana so if we sell Mickey Mouse Maupay and get a quality replacement in and add a goalscoring winger and some fullback cover we may have a decent squad.
Of course the only problem is we still have Moshiri and Kenwright interfering (handling) the transfers.
33 Posted 10/07/2023 at 16:21:57
Personally I considered him a significant loss. His defensive work on the wing was acutely missed. And the few goals he scored were always big ones. He would have made a difference in both our relegation battles, last season and this.
Jay #32, Dyche previously projected that Seamus wouldn't be fit until August.
Demarai will play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals for Jamaica against Mexico on Wednesday. He went the full 90 in their quarterfinal win over Guatemala yesterday.
34 Posted 10/07/2023 at 16:53:24
Also that Calvert-Lewin is healthy enough to train. Let's all pretend that we're looking forward to 6 weeks of him building up strength and not 6 weeks for him to pick up a new knock.

36 Posted 10/07/2023 at 17:59:49
And if as some expect, Onana is also sold during this window, it would mean that Jordan Pickford would be Everton's most expensive signing still on the books.
I'm pretty sure that's correct; so much for Everton breaking the Transfer Window as Paul Merson claimed a few years ago.

I saw many complaining about not giving our youth a chance last season, rightly so as too many professionals stank the place out.
So now we see a squad jet out for preseason full of youth getting their first chance, and they get slated. I sincerely hope our young players don't read the shite posted on here.
I for one support having younger players involved, they definitely won't be any worse than the crap we saw last season.

Football fans have a right to have a go at the club, players and other staff, because we pay their inflated wages. These people are transitory, while EFC is 145 years old. I'm sure all these posters are 100% behind the team when they play, but given the shabby way the club has been run, and the wasted millions, can't-be-arsed players etc, it's a wonder Everton have any fans.
The days of Dixie, Lawton and Labone are well gone, and most players (exceptions like Coleman are rare) only play the game for the obscene riches they reap. Footie supporters know who are the slackers and who are the ones who love the club, so get off everyone's backs, and allow people to let off steam; after all, this is a forum, and not a church.
47 Posted 10/07/2023 at 19:58:16
Mykolenko missed the last few games of the season with injury, and still played 3 games for Ukraine since then, and now injured again, guessing it's the same injury. Is that not irresponsible?
48 Posted 10/07/2023 at 20:17:39
If it makes you feel better, go ahead slagging then all off before they've even had a chance.
49 Posted 10/07/2023 at 20:32:32
It's all about perception, and when you look at how short our squad currently is, then I think most sensible people will be concerned, especially with everything seemingly going quiet, with regards investment from MSPand the new board.
The young players should be buzzing so hopefully one or two of them impress Sean Dyche and get themselves some valuable game time.
50 Posted 10/07/2023 at 20:37:20
I get that all fans have the right to let off steam given how the club's leadership has performed. We all feel the disappointment. These are anxious times and that anxiety can feed on itself. I think that is where Dan, myself and others feel the need to say something.
At that point I don't want to go tit for tat and ask that you let us let off steam. I also get that critical posters are going at the team and leaders whereas we are questioning fans. On that I would suggest that you are underestimating the club's presence in our identity.
We are trying to hold it together and at that level feel like we are being attacked albeit in a second order way. I have no solution to offer. I just thought I was balancing it out for our side. (I know that sounds bad, not what I'm saying there.)
51 Posted 11/07/2023 at 15:15:13
Mick 46, well said,âââââ
Mike 33, I agree. I would have kept him, why didn't we?
But we are all entitled to a good moan on here and the way this club is at the moment all are viable targets.🔫
