Everton U18s 4 - 1 Stockport County U18s

Stockport County U18s were defeated at Goodison Park tonight as Everton U18s won this 3rd Round FA Youth Cup tie.

Leighton Baines' young Blues begin their cup campaign under the floodlights at Goodison against the Greater Manchester outfit, who defeated Leighton Town 1-0 in the previous round.

Everton have won the prestigious FA Youth Cup three times - in 1965, 1984 and, most recently, 1998 - while also finishing runners-up on four occasions.

Supporters can watch the young Blues live on both Everton's official YouTube channel and Everton's official KICK channel.

After a couple of chances,  Everton opened the scoring when the visiting keeper parried a corner out to Sherif and he made no mistake, returning the ball goalward with interest.

But the County boys got back on even terms with the last kick of the half, scoring from a long punt upfield by their goalkeeper.

Sherif got Everton's second after the restart, an accomplished finish and the Blues sealed the win with a fine goal from Mathew Apter.

In between, Joel Catesby went into the advertising hoarding at some speed and there was a long pause while he received treatment behind the goalline.

Martin Sherif could have got his hat-trick when Everton were awarded a penalty in added time at the end but he missed the target completely with a shot that flew over the bar.

But later in added time, Geoarge Morgan finished a sweeping move from the back, slipping the ball past the Stockport keeper for the 4th goal.

Everton U18s:  G Pickford, Finney, Van Schoor, O Samuels-Smith, Thomas, Bates (89' Foster), Beaumont-Clark, Armstrong (76' Apter), Sherif, Morgan, Catesby (66' Ebere}.

Subs not Used: Lukjanciks, Moonan, Davis, Maher.

Some good performances from one or two players but no criticism because this was a very young team with seven first-year players in the team.

One of them, Joel Catesby, was very good before he was carried off the field. I hope the lad is not too seriously injured.

Any news on the injured lad? Looked nasty at the time.
