David Moyes has confirmed that striker Youssef Chermiti is likely to leave on loan in the closing stages of the transfer window.
The 21-year-old, who’s behind Beto and Thierno Barry in the pecking order, was left out of the squad for the EFL Cup game against Mansfield Town as he looks to confirm his departure.
"He has got a good chance of going on loan,” the Everton manager said in the pre-match press conference before facing Wolves on Saturday.
Chermiti has been strongly linked with a loan move to Rangers, with an option to buy clause being discussed between the two clubs.
Having joined Everton from Sporting CP in 2023, Chermiti has struggled for game time, and despite being a highly rated prospect by some, injuries have hampered his development. He has made only 24 appearances for the Blues, most of them being cameos off the bench, and a move away could be beneficial at this stage of his career.
Meanwhile, the Toffees are in a dilemma when it comes to Harrison Armstrong. The 18-year-old midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan to Championship side Derby County and was a prominent feature in Moyes’ plans during the pre-season.
He started and played the entire game against Mansfield Town recently. Armstrong was arguably the best player on the pitch and assisted both of Everton’s goals, leaving a strong impression on the manager.
Asked about his immediate future, David Moyes said: "A loan is there if we want it for him.
"He played really well in midweek. He showed he's got the potential to be a future Everton player, that's for sure.
"So we've got a decision if we think we are going to give him enough games between now and January.
"You have to remember in January we've got the Africa Cup of Nations, and we'll lose players to that, so we've got that in our thought process. So from that point of view, we're looking at Harrison to see if we can give him more game time now and keep him with us, so that's something we're looking at.
"But we were really pleased with how he played. He's coming on and he's looking like a very good future Everton player."
Everton have signed eight players this summer in a much-needed squad rebuild, and there could be more additions before the transfer market closes on Monday.
"We could do, but I don't want to raise expectations all of the time. I've said throughout the summer that we will be making signings and we have done so,” said Moyes.
"Whether we get anything over the line before Monday night, I couldn't be sure of that. If we can do it great, if we can't, we'll go with what we've got."

"I don't want to raise expectations all of the time"
Not something he's likely to be accused of... ever.

Broke into the Sporting squad scoring just 3 goals in 9 starts as an 18-year-old. Yeah, all the local experts expected big things.
All this buying young and expecting they are going to improve. He's now 21. A year out with an injury. Really time to get rid before he is too old to move on. Another sick note.
On the other hand, a loan, see how he goes and maybe we were right to take a gamble. Isn't that what it is about – buy cheap, sell dear?

Can you cut it at 40 hard games?
10 Posted 29/08/2025 at 21:19:33
If Chermiti does indeed go to Rangers on loan, I hope its successful and it aids his development.
I can't see Moyes only having two strikers on the books during a long season, that just won't happen.
I predict we have a plan to bring in another striker as soon as Chermiti moves north.

Igamame managed 11 goals last season. If Chermiti stays fit Id expect him to match that. Should be a good test for him physically with some tough tackling.

Do you not think there's a reason why you've "hardly seen him on the pitch"?
15 Posted 29/08/2025 at 22:57:01
I still believe (without evidence) that he's going to be a fine player and I hope we don't give up on him. That would be truly ridiculous after a League and Cup total 295 minutes, plus one game (and a goal) for the U21s.
Rangers play 60 games a season -- SPL, cups and Euros. That'll tell us what we need to know.
16 Posted 29/08/2025 at 23:00:58
However going to Rangers with no real experience (mainly because of injury) lends me to wondering isn't that just like going to another Everton (excluding their SPL credentials) ?
Coupled with the fact that they are now out of europe, where he will be in the pecking order for starting and game time ?
And isn't their manager on thin ice ?
So if he gets sacked Chermiti is more likely to get frozen out.
I see there is an option to buy clause. So his future here is really bleak I suspect.
But hey, good luck to him and I hope he has more fortunate times up there.

An Amorin wannabe like Russell Martin wouldnt be good for any of our kids.

My own grumble is that he's going to Rangers. I'd much prefer him to go to promotion chasing Championship team like Ipswich who could afford to buy him if he starts scoring and we still decide to go in another direction. Plus the Championship is at higher level than the Scottish Prem.

Stop talking sense on ToffeeWeb. Its not allowed 😂
We need to say players arent good enough after less than 3 games
23 Posted 29/08/2025 at 23:52:35
The clubs you mention all seem to have good set ups for exactly what Chermiti needs.
or a half decent Championship club.
24 Posted 30/08/2025 at 00:59:16
All very straightforward.
25 Posted 30/08/2025 at 01:21:34
Plus his wife upset Coleen.

He seemed to have a good touch, had good movement and plenty of pace. A good leap on him too.
Obviously needs more time on the pitch and to stay fit.
With Barry signed and being given a chance and Beto, since Moyes has been reinstalled, finding his scoring touch to a statistically impressive level (despite the evidence of our eyes!); Chermiti needs to have a good season on loan. If he can do that, bang the goals in and show he is the player we hope he is, he could be very useful next season.
A lot depends on his ability to stay fit of course.
Good luck Yousef.
In the meantime. Barry for an hour and then Battering Ram Beto for the last 30 plus minutes seems the best plan.
UTFT.
It won't be easy at Molyneux today of course, but if we can go into Wolves' Lair and fight hard and come out with all 3 points, then have a good Monday Transfer Deadline Day with the remaining gaps in the team filled, I will be one very happy Toffee.
Good luck Mr Moyes, the players and all those working on the recruitment side too.
A big few days indeed. NSNO, UTFT and COYB.

If he's out of the door I would think we'll bring a striker in. I'd be happy with Dju from Midtjylland, or Ivanovic from Millwall. Of course I'd love Richie back but I only see us spending around £15m, on a 3rd striker.
Some positive news coming from Italy is that Napoli no longer want Juanlu Sanchez because they don't want to pay the £20m Sevilla want. Fingers crossed he comes in and Nathan Patterson goes the other way.

I wish Chermiti luck in his career and I hope it gets on track at Rangers. Thelwall is a fan as he brought the player to us in the first place.
I believe we will get a straight sale which will be reinvested in a striker "if" ? we can bring one in.
With regards to the odd comment from the "desponds" about Barry, the lad is 21, coming to the toughest, quickest and most physical league in the world.
He has barely got the grass under his feet, give the lad a chance for goodness sake, to right him off is click bait nonsense from those who should ? no better, I despair...
