Jake O’Brien is disappointed that Everton didn’t take their chances against Brentford and got punished 4-2 at home. O’Brien also says the squad wants to “put things right” against Wolves on Wednesday.

After consecutive losses to Chelsea and Arsenal, Everton managed a wonderful 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on the road while dealing with a depleted squad. However, they failed to sustain that positive momentum and failed to deal with the threat of the Bees this weekend.

Igor Thiago scored a hat-trick to lead Keith Andrews’s side to victory and the Blues have slipped from 8th to 12th in the Premier League table following the loss.

“Very disappointing. I think we've come away from a good result a few days ago and then today just looked like a terrible performance and we didn't take our chances,” O’Brien said after the game.

“At this level, when you don't take them, you get punished.

“It's hard to say [why], but it just didn't click. It was tired legs – it looked like from everyone – and that just wasn't the performance we usually put in. We weren't together and that showed."

Everton’s squad, stretched thin due to injuries and Afcon, are also contending with a particularly busy week. The players need to recover quickly in order to host basement side Wolves at home on Wednesday. Wolves recorded their first win of the season with a 3-0 triumph over West Ham in their most recent outing.

“For me personally, I just want to put [the Brentford loss] behind us,” O’Brien added.

“We have two more games coming up in the next few days and we've got to look towards this with a positive mindset and go into these games, put in a good performance and get the points.

“I think because it's a game coming up so quick, I think we just switch off from [the Brentford] game and switch on towards Wolves, go onto the training pitch and try to put things right.”

What chances? It was letting 4 in the other end that was the problem.

Sorry, Jake, you'll never make a right-back as long as you've got a whole in your arse.

I want to see him at centre-backf ahead of dozy-arse Keane and then I'm hoping Branthwaite can replace the other yard-dog Tarkowski who seems more interested in getting involved in fights and wrestling matches... Plus the passing out from the back was shocking.

Tired legs….

I think we had 2 days more rest than Brentford.

6ft-5in, 21, pro footballer, huge wage... tired legs. Seriously?

I've heard some excuses but that's pathetic. Go and work a 16-hour shift six days a week for enough just to pay your bills.

I've lost all respect for modern footballers when they spout such shite. Shame on you, No-Brain. Sorry, O'Brien.

Off subject, any news of transfers yet? It is 5 January and surely there was discussions with clubs for the type of player we need... or will they wait until the close of the new window?

We need players today... preferably at right-back to strengthen one of the weakest areas. I wonder if there will be a site put on to cover the January window?
