Everton U21s 5 - 1 RB Leipzig U21s

Everton U21s hammered RB Leipzig U21s in the final group game of the Premier League International Cup at Goodison Park on Tuesday night to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Everton go top od Group A ahead of Real Madrid after they secured an excellent win tonight.

Group A

7 Southampton 2 0 1 1 1 3 -2 1
8 PSV Eindhoven 3 0 1 2 4 7 -3 1

A number of the better players from Everton's U21 side have gone out on loan for the second half of the season -- Will Tamen, Francis Okoronkwo and George Finney -- making tonight's task that bit more difficult on paper. But Reece Welch and Eli Campbell returned from their first-team bench-warming duties to get a run out.

Roman Dixon made his long-awaited return from a serious but unspecified injury that kept him out since last April; he was withdrawn at the break, with Everton leading 3-1 after excellent goals from Malik Olayiwola and Braiden Graham with a brace.

Everton remained sold in the second half, with late goals from Reece Welch and Ceiran Loney.

Pickford, Dixon (46' Samuels-Smith), Van Schoor (82' Thomas), Welch, Campbell, Bates, Boakye, Akarakiri (72' Gomez), Benjamin (86' Loney), Olayiwola (72' Pita), Graham.

Subs not Used: Lukjanciks, Moonan

The U21s are at home tonight v RB Leipzig — can't get to see it unless you're a member.

I'm not interested in going although I'll be at the Ipswich game in the FA Youth Cup if they announce it in time!

Olayiwola got the first and Graham got the other two, the first a screamer of a shot with his weaker left foot. Dixon makes his first appearance of the season I think, the defence made a cock up of the opponents goal..

Now 5-1, Welch got the 4th. and Loney scored his first U21’s goal for the fifth.

The team was— Pickford,Dixon.Welch, Campbell,Van Schoor, Bates,Akarakiri, Boakye, Olayiwola, Grahamand Benjamin.

SubsLukjanciks, Thomas and Samuels —Smith.

That Olayiwola needs watching I think he has just signed his first professional contract and Graham needs no introduction to a lot of Bluenoses.

Dave, good to see Dixon back, hasn’t played all season?

Ian (I’ve only seen snatches of him but he has scored or assisted in those games, a tricky centre midfielder with excellent ball controll with an eye for a good pass, only just turned 17 he has graduated quickly into the U 21’s, and Imthink he was on the bench for the

Sunderland cup tie or Wolves league game but being honest there wasn’t many players left to use as subs.

Christy (5) That’s me making the assumption Dixon hasn’t played this season through injury.

Whoever was up front for this team is surely worth a place among the first team at the moment? We have less subs than we are allowed and 2 goalies on the bench? Or do we simply just want to blow another 30 million quid on a foreign gamble?

Just seen the first two goals on GrandOldTeam, a slick goal from Malik Olayiwola, what a song you could make out of that name.

Then Braiden Graham's first goal where he ran from the half way line and lashed the ball home from the edge of the penalty area with his weaker left foot — a cracker!

Will we ever see another league table which reads as follows:

1 - Everton
2 - Real Madrid
3 - Manchester City

No question remark; purely rhetorical.

The wonderful Red Echo, in its typically fullsome manner, tells us:

"It was Dixon's first competitive action since a serious injury halted his move to the League One club at the start of the season." He's set to join Stockport County on loan, when fully fit.

No inkling what that injury was. Nada. Just kept him out for months and months and months.

I don't think Everton are very good at reporting injuries, still waiting for news of Alcaraz's injury for what it is after about a month.

Also, Tim's slight twinge -- no news on that.

I think that's Miserly Moyes at his best, Dave.

Need to know basis only, I reckon. Just turn up, pay up, and shut up.

There you are — that can be our new motto, if rendered into the Latin vernacular.

Michael, this is the best news I've heard so far this year.
