Everton U21s 3 - 2 Man City U21s

A late Martin Sherif penalty gave Everton Under-21s the win against Manchester City at Finch Farm on Sunday afternoon, fresh from their midweek hammering of RB Leipzig, which saw them progress to the quarter-finals of the Premier League International Cup.

This game saw them return to action in Premier League 2, where they have been struggling with only 4 wins from 10 games so far. They sit 19th out of 29 in the expanded PL2 which was revamped for the 2024-25 season.

They were without Roman Dixon who has signed for Stockport County on loan.

Josh van Schoor and Braiden Graham had earlier netted for the Blues as both sides shared four goals in an action-packed first half.

It was a tense affair till the end when Martin Sherif was brought down in the box and able to strike the winner from the penalty spot.

Everton U21s:  Pickford, Samuels-Smith, van Schoor, Welch, Campbell, J Patterson, Boakye Olayiwola (60' Sherif), Benjamin, Bates, Graham.

Subs: Lukjanciks, Thomas, Moonan, Loney.

The Blues won 3-2 which seems like a very good result v City, we came from 2-1 down to win with a last minute penalty from Martin Sherif back from his loan spell, Josh Van Schoor got the first and Braiden Graham, who else, got the other one.

Dave A,

I can't see why Moyes doesn't or didn't give the lad a go in the first team, maybe not registered as a squad member, to encourage him. Especially while we have one and a half strikers who don't score many.

I think he must be registered because he's been on the bench. Mind you, that might have been when we were down to the bones of the squad vs Sunderland in the FA Cup I think...

Or maybe you don't have to be registered to play in the cup, but like a lot of fans who've seen Graham, they would have no hesitation in playing him for parts of some games. He's a natural goalscoring poacher -- why wouldn't we!

I thought that you didn't need registering if under a certain age, 21?

Or being thoughtless, Dave. I wasn't sure if Graham would be included as we signed him from another club.

At any club Graham would be touted as the next big thing, but here we destroy youth. Watch him go elsewhere and be a revelation at some future point.

Graham is 18-years old.

If he does have a big-league potential, he needs to be sent out to find out. Testing his skill and athleticism against adult professionals.

Not wasting time playing kiddie-ball.

Graham has already got experience of playing men’s football, so I expect this will be his final season playing at under 21 level?
