Everton have rejected Juventus’ enquiry for Beto last week, reports The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Toffees weren’t keen on losing the striker without signing an adequate replacement and were seeking significant compensation to proceed with the sale. The club also held internal talks over the signing of winger Edon Zhegrova, but nothing came out of it.

Ornstein reports that the club has no plans of letting Beto leave before Monday’s deadline given that he’s the only recognised striker in the squad besides Theirno Barry. Beto came on in the 89th minute to score a last-gasp equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion at Amex Stadium on Saturday.

The Guinea-Bissau international has scored three goals in the league so far in 24 appearances but has mostly come off the bench this season with Barry moving ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Toffees are yet to sign a player during the winter transfer window but are believed to be in negotiations with Chelsea over the signing of winger Tyrique George.

Moise Kean never wanted to be here. Took him a couple of years to grow up and mature after we sold him. And we even made a bit of a profit on him.

Everton can't be choosey. Our goalscoring is poor so we have to keep Beto and Barry for now.

One goal a game is all we can manage at the moment but at least we are becoming hard to beat again albeit pushing our luck yesterday.

With players returning now we can at least hope to finish the season well and maybe sneak into Europe although I am not too worried about that.

No surprises from me I'd have snatched their hand off, assuming of course it was a decent amount. By decent I don't mean the rip-off we paid for him, but something in between.

Glad we have the young lad Tyrique George, even more reason to have got shut of bumbling Beto !

Of course we have to keep him, who else could possibly come on for the last 10 minutes, oh, and plus added (injury) time and especially with these unnamed injuries that seems to have affected several players. Strewth, Moyes might have had to use a junior or played somebody out of position, oh hang on, he does do that and plenty might have us think Keane might be good for those last 10 minutes. Or something completely out of left field (an expression that might register with our American owners) we buy or loan somebody as for 10 minutes it might make little difference, except for that last game.

Juventus know that Beto will score goals, they also know why he doesn’t score many goals for Everton.

A lot of Evertonians also know why he doesn’t score many goals for us.

It’s because we are a very defensive minded team that creates very few clean cut scoring chances in a game.

If Beto goes and we are left with one erm 'senior' striker, TFG and their crack recruitment team will have questions to answer. If he stays, they still do, leaving us with the worst pair of strikers in a top-16 team.

Andrew agreed, I mean we might have the worst set of strikers according to some, but I honestly cant remember a chance created for Barry on Saturday, he got one the week before that he scored, and same the week before, mind you I do remember him putting one on a plate for KDH 8 yards out who proceeded to hit the goalie with it, we create absolutely nothing, fuck all get who you want up front but it's the creativity at fault for me

Mick, we buy midfielders for fun and play full backs - apart from Patterson - who do not effectively overlap, and you're right mate, no service. Where we might disagree is that you see more in Barry than I do right now. But time will tell. This window has done nothing for Barry so far.

Two full backs required to overlap and join in with the wide midfield,but more importantly,they need to be allowed to make attacking runs.

Spot on, when we have Beto and Barry missing loads of created chances then we can be more critical.

Moyes knows about the lack of chances and mentions it many times. This is a problem will be addressed in time and George will help.

Also two speedy full backs to push up is another area that I am sure will be sorted but only when the right players become available

Hopefully with a summer transfer window, more recruits to aid chance creation will see our strikers being more prolific.

Paul agreed, every Evertonian knows that the club has neglected the full back positions over the last few years, How many goals and assists did Baines and Seamus provide season after season? Also Digne was excellent at putting in accurate crosses, it's so infuriating that we've neglected these positions for a few years, pacy attacking fullbacks are a necessity in today's football especially when we don't have pacey wingers, let's hope the new lad from Chelsea gets a chance and can help remedy the lack of pace and assists
