David Moyes has insisted there will always be a place for Seamus Coleman at Everton as the club captain prepares to leave this summer.

Coleman has confirmed that he will leave Everton when his contract expires in the summer. The Irishman has made the announcement ahead of Sunday's final home fixture of the Premier League campaign, against Sunderland at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Moyes has managed the 37-year-old across two separate spells with the Toffees, having been in charge when Coleman first joined Everton from Sligo Rovers in 2009. He has paid tribute to Coleman's contribution across almost two decades with the Blues.

“It’s virtually impossible to put into words what I think of Seamus Coleman and the impact he’s had at this Club," Moyes reflected to evertonfc.com.

“To represent Everton at the highest level for 17 years is a remarkable achievement and, speaking as his manager over two spells, it has been a genuine privilege to watch him grow as a player, a leader, and a man.

“I know it’s going to be incredibly difficult to replace the characteristics Seamus brings to this Club. His influence behind the scenes is hard to measure and explain. He’s hugely respected by everyone, and we will miss his presence, on and off the pitch.

“He deserves to have a special place in the Club’s history, but also in the hearts of every Evertonian because he embodies everything this Club stands for every time he pulls on the shirt.

“I must also give huge credit to the people who were instrumental in bringing Seamus here in the first place.

“To sign a player for £60,000 from Ireland, and to see him go on to make well over 400 appearances in the first-team, demonstrates just how important good recruitment is.

“We wish Seamus all the very best in whatever he decides to do next, and he knows there will always be a place here for him if he chooses to return in the future.”

Yes, I am a miserable fart, and don't get me wrong; Seamus has been one of, if not my favourite, player since he established himself in the first team.

But this, along with the other fine articles about him today, should have been written a year ago.

I'll never forget Lampard on the pitch after the Palace game, telling Seamus's small children that their father was one of the finest men he has known.

Seems to be a unanimous sentiment. Good player. Great man. All the best to ye, Mr Coleman.

That Spurs game seems like yesterday. Can't believe how that time has gone.

Thank you Seamus.

I disagree with the headline, because even though I have always really liked and respected Seamus Coleman, as both a footballer and also because he comes across as a man, who genuinely cares about us supporters, but my opinion is that to truly embody what Everton Football Club, stands for, then you have got to do something that we have long forgotten about, and this means (to me) that you have got to win.

That's how far the standards have dropped Tony. Sad really.

Well said Tony, although perhaps not his fault he's never won anything?

What a bizarre comment by Moyes in his presser:

'The recruitment team forced me into doing it' (buying Seamus).
