Shrewsbury Town 1 - 0 Everton U21s

Everton U21s were narrowly defeated on Tuesday night in their pre-season friendly against Shrewsbury Town

A couple of trialists on show, later identified as

Jamel Beggs, 18, who has just left Tottenham since being with the club from the age of 7, started on the bench for Everton U21s squad tonight at Shrewsbury in a bid to win a contract. He only made 7 appearances last season for Spurs U18s.

Everton were good in the first half but too many changes ruined the flow of the match and they went behind to a header in the second half. Will Tamen was good but he went off on about 60 minutes.

Everton U21s: G Pickford, Finney, Van Schoor, Tamen. Campbell, Foster, Trialist, Brookes, Sherif, Olayiwola, Catesby.

Subs: Lukjanciks, Davis, Thomas, Samuels-Smith, Trialist, Loney, Clarke, Pita, J Patterson

Dewsbury played in that game last night and was neat and tidy. I think he only played the first half.

Beggs, the lad from Spurs, came on for the last 25 minutes but it was hard for him to make an impression because he was part of a multiple change over. We lost 1-0, the result doesn’t really matter in these games.

It was possible we were playing the Shrewsbury first team — which brings back memories of Davie Moyes taking Everton there for an FA Cup game and losing to Kevin Ratcliffe's team 2-1!

Could we get Lewis Hall from Newcastle and then put it on the team sheet as Dewsbury-Hall and play with 12 players?
