Everton Academy Prospect Martin Sherif Charged by FA Over Betting Breaches

Everton youngster Martin Sherif has been formally charged by The Football Association for allegedly breaching its betting regulations.

The 20-year-old forward stands accused of violating FA Rule E1.2 in relation to 61 bets placed on football matches across a 15-month timeframe between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026.

The governing body confirmed the charges in an official statement, giving the player until Monday, 17 August 2026 to submit a formal response. Rule E1.2 strictly prohibits anyone involved in professional football in England — including players, coaching staff, and officials — from placing direct or indirect wagers on any football match anywhere in the world, or passing on inside information for gambling purposes.

Sherif's Academy Journey at Finch Farm

Born in Liberia and a former Netherlands youth international, Sherif moved to Merseyside in 2019 at the age of 13 after being scouted from Dutch side Almere City.

Progressing through the ranks at Finch Farm, the left-footed striker established himself as a reliable goalscorer in the academy pipeline:

• Everton U18s: 28 goals in 61 appearances.

• Everton U21s / U23s: 11 goals in 30 appearances, including 10 goals in 28 games during his primary stint with the Under-21 side in Premier League 2.

His strong displays at youth level saw him named in senior matchday squads under David Moyes, though he is yet to make his official competitive debut for the first team.
