Tyrique George has revealed David Moyes’s message to 'express himself' at Everton following his permanent arrival, and said the club are aiming for Europe this season.
George scored his first Everton goal during Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Newcastle United at Murrayfield, with the winger swivelling smartly before firing inside Lukas Hornicek’s near post in Edinburgh.
The 20-year-old struggled for regular minutes during his loan from Chelsea last season, but is hoping he has done enough to convince Moyes in pre-season.
Following an impressive team performance against Newcastle, George said the message from the manager has been to express himself on the pitch, and that there’s optimism at Everton that Europe is within reach this season.
“I’m really enjoying it. Obviously, to play for Everton is great. We’re just trying to get fit for the Premier League, it’s been good,” he told evertonfc.com.
“From the first time that I came in, he [David Moyes] just told me to express myself and be myself. That’s kind of what I’m showing. Hopefully, I just get my opportunities to show what I can do.
“We want to get Europe, that’s the aim. That was the aim last season and hopefully we do that this season. We’re positive. It’s a great squad, a great bunch of lads and we gel really well. We just want to carry that on into the season.”
Everton next face Lille in the club's final pre-season fixture on Saturday, before beginning the 2026-27 Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on 22 August.

I think we have a gem on our hands here, the young man has bags of talent, what we need is consistency, this sometimes disappears with wide players so its something to work on.

The lad must have misheard 'cos of DDDs Scots accent. He surely told him to track back and defend and don't get any silly ideas about attacking football.
And talk of Europe? Another miscommunication, DDD must have been asking him where he went on holiday.

It was good to see the link up play between him, KDH and Armstrong albeit against a poor Newcastle side.

Shortly after that season, Alex Ferguson decided to put his faith and trust in the younger players and the class of 92 was born. Just imagine if Moyes had Sir Alex's kojones??

If he builds on this confidence and is given the game time, and the freedom to express himself, then we could have a very good player.
Needs a bit more strength and improved decision-making... but a lot to like yesterday.
