Everton travel to the south coast and a fixture against Bournemouth for their first away game of the 2026-27 Premier League season.
David Moyes will be hoping the Toffees’ positive start to proceedings that has seen two wins, six goals scored and none conceded, puts his players in a positive frame of mind approaching this test, although he still maintains the squad needs strengthening in certain positions as the last days of the transfer window loom.
Bournemouth had a difficult start to their Premier League season, but it looked for a long while like they might steal a win at the Etihad thanks to an early goal from Tavernier until Man City equalised late on and then got the winner in time added on.
New boss Marco Rose will be without Julian Araujo, Eli Kroupi, Amine Adli and Veljko Milosavljevic for his first home game in charge of the Cherries, while Julio Soler faces a late fitness check. Ryan Christie will be available again after serving a suspension.
Rose said of Everton: "They defend well, they try to press high in different formations and their box defending is really diligent. They have players with quality on the ball. Their wingers are one-v-one players who are always able to hurt you if you aren't awake."

James Garner appears to have recovered well from groin surgery but his minutes are being managed. Branthwaite was rested for the trip to Preston, suggesting he might start. Hackney rolled his ankle last weekend and that's why he didn't play in midweek. He's "touch and go", says Moyes.
We've still seen nothing of Christian Nørgaard despite his assurances last week that it was just “a small injury”, and that he is “getting very close” to a return. But it now turns out that he is not making great progress at the moment following a small groin injury sustained during pre-season. Although the club have said little, Tim Iroegbunam’s abductor injury means he is unlikely to play again until October at the earliest.
Barry seems certain to continue up front having finally eclipsed Beto with his goalscoring exploits in the first two games.
Tyler Dibling was given another big chance to make his presence known against Preston but it didn't really come off for him, so Tyrique George should get another opportunity to perfect his trademark cut inside move to plant a curler into the top corner! One day...

If we don’t select N’Diaye I will be very disappointed. When a team sells its best players it indicates a total lack of ambition.

Not always Andrew. Depends on the ambition and acumen of the board of course. I recall a club not so far away selling one Kevin Keegan, who was at his prime. And who did that club have lined up waiting ?

Very good football team and extremely dangerous on the break. The defense will have to be on its toes for the full 90+ minutes.
I also think he will play Rhol at right back.

So Bournemouth (who are becoming a bogy team for us, with 5 out of the last 6 lost) have had their feet up this week, with their management having all the time they need to see how much space there is behind Merlin (- though I suppose a child would also see that).
Meanwhile our key attackers (KDH, Illy) had barely 10 minutes respite at the end of our cup match, when that could easily have been doubled.
Are we even sure Barry is fit? He seemed to be struggling when he came off on Wednesday - another one who could easily have come off after 60-70 minutes.

Looking at our transfer activity, if Ndiaye goes before the deadline then I think most Blues will feel deflated, even if we get Grealish plus cash in return AND miraculously find a decent right back.
The one positive from the RB debacle is that we may get to see more of Röhl. I do worry about him when we play teams that properly put us under the cosh though. It’s one thing getting forward at pace, it’s another sticking a crunching tackle in on one of the PL’s best forwards.
Bournemouth are a good side and will be tough to beat. Our away form was great last season, mainly because of our defensive strength. If we leak goals tomorrow then we’ll know we have an issue.
Fingers-crossed for a win and a few more goals for Barry.

Delap gone, who I didn’t want, but a player linked to us. Looks like Munoz is going to forest also. I know I posted yesterday about Grealish. At this moment though, I am sick of the pissing about over a right back and a striker, positions we knew were a priority. Considering this is now the 3rd game of the season coming.

N’diaye going nowhere been no offers and Moyes says grealish still not sorted. Good to see we are keeping up the tradition of signing crocks given Moyes has said Norgaard is not making good progress - Only Everton that. Still we’ve got the players fired up after two wins and a clean sheet, long may it continue 💙

Looked at Moyes press conference, fair play to Julia, she's not afraid to ask the hard questions, looks like Ndiaye is staying. Moyes praising Rohl's performance at fullback, and how he loves just to be playing, a dig at O'Brien in my opinion. Looks like Munoz heading to Forest, so another year, and no fullback? Looking at Michael's team, I'd rest Tarkowski after playing mid-week, and start Branthwaite & O'Brien!

Unfortunately, due to poor recruitment and poor management, we go into this game with a less-than-fit Jimmy Garner, no Norgaard, and a centre-back who hasn't had any minutes yet.
I just hope Barry continues his form and the others improve their conversion rate while we hold steady defensively.

It's odds-on Ndiaye is leaving and Grealish will sign. I don't want to lose Ndiaye, I don't think any of us does, but if Man City want him, he will leave and Grealish will probably be part of the deal.
This is where all the other teams that are not one of the usual suspects are, when they find or produce a classy player, they come in and buy them up.
Very tough game at Bournemouth, we will do well to come away with anything, but neither will a lot more teams.
I do think though, even as we are now, we will do well this season -- we will score more goals.

I have to take my hat off to our recruitment team as Kinnear says they are world class. Despite searching the globe, so far, they haven't managed to find a full-back, and also haven't managed to bring in a striker.
They have turned George's loan into a permanent signing, done the same with Rohl, swapped McNeil for Johnson, and bought last season's Championship Player of the Season, not forgetting the injured Norgaard, onto the payroll.
And let's not forget this World class recruitment team have still days left, we can only guess the gems they might unearth. They really do deserve our thanks; had Kinnear not put this fabulous recruitment team together, I really wonder where we would be.

We should be calling the shots and not be pushed into player exchange deals. If Man City do want Ndiaye, then they can pay in cash (or however they do it nowadays).
We should have demanded £80M and had a right-back and centre-forward lined up. I like Grealish and I like Richarlison but we can do better than either of them.
Of course, that assumes we have a recruitment team that gets its collective finger out!

I know off topic, my old man passed away, we got him a stone on the memorial walk... My mum 90 next year went down to see it today... one of the most heart-wrenching experiences I've ever had... kept it together for mum, got home had a wee Scotch for my old man and shed a tear... Up the Blues...

A friend of my son was studying sports media and was invited to a Moyes press conference last season.

Röhl is a committed young player. However, he is not a right-back. He never played in that position at Ingolstadt or Freiburg.
Perhaps he will learn it eventually, but please not during such a crucial season. I would much rather see Jake O'Brien at right-back.

george, hackney and brennan are all TFG data team signings. alienating LDibling and hanging out Obrien in todays presser are unforgiveable. Moyes gets top salary and compares himself to Pep and Sir Alex yet thrives on mediocracy and failure. Moyes spent £115 mill last summer yo get 1 point more than Dyche. Moyes has offered us nothing apart from mind numbing KITAP1 in both his tenures as manager. where was his professional ambition for europe in the last 7 games last year 3 points from the final 21 available - his stlatement that he didnt know TFG l expected europe is an excuse and shows no professional pride. sooner he has gone the better
