Five potential signings for Everton in 2025 by Gary McCarty 21 November, 2024 With Everton’s long-running ownership saga set to be resolved before the end of the year, fans are already dreaming about what the future may hold. Many supporters may be considering wagering on the Toffees to win silverware in 2025/26, although that might be stretching the ambition a little too far. However, for punters who choose safe betting not on Gamstop, Everton forcing their way into contention for European qualification is not beyond the realms of possibility. To achieve that aim, the club’s new owners must ensure the squad is improved. With that in mind, here are five players Everton could target in 2025. Jonathan David - Lille Lille striker Jonathan David is out of contract next summer and there will likely be plenty of interest in securing his services from clubs across Europe. Everton have been touted as a possible destination and a move to the club could be possible if the owners decide to make an early statement. The Canadian international has also been linked with Manchester United and Newcastle United, but it is debatable whether he would be a regular starter for either club. David will want to play regularly given the 2026 World Cup is on the horizon and a move to Everton could me mutually beneficial for all parties. Tariq Lamptey – Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Tariq Lamptey has barely featured this season and could leave the club next summer when his contract expires. Lamptey’s versatility makes him an attractive proposition for the Toffees, although they may need to move early to fend of the competition. Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the 24-year-old, while clubs in Italy and Germany are also monitoring his situation. Everton desperately needed younger reinforcements at full-back and Lamptey could be a cost-effective solution for the club. Tyrick Mitchell – Crystal Palace Tyrick Mitchell has been a reliable performer for Crystal Palace in recent seasons, but may be considering a move elsewhere as his contract runs down. The 25-year-old would be another excellent defensive acquisition for the club and would come with the added bonus of being available for free next summer. The Eagles were reportedly set to open contract talks with Mitchell earlier this season, but there appears to have been no developments since then. The full-back may be enthused by the prospect of playing for a club with new owners and Everton would be well advised to set the ball rolling about a move. Samuel Chukwueze AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze has shown flashes of brilliance in Serie A, but consistency has not been his strong suit. The Nigerian international is reportedly available for just £11.6 million in the January transfer window, which makes him an intriguing option for Everton. Chukwueze’s dribbling ability and creativity would make him an instant hit with Everton fans who have long been starved of flair players. The Toffees were linked with Chukwueze in 2022 and may decide to reignite their interest once the new owners complete their takeover. Todd Cantwell – Blackburn Rovers While Todd Cantwell undoubtedly falls into the ‘risky transfer target’ category, there are reasons why a move to Everton makes perfect sense. Cantwell was a standout performer for Norwich City, before his career went sour. His move to Rangers did not work out and Blackburn Rovers offered him a lifeline last summer. The 26-year-old has performed well for Rovers despite not being fully fit and the suspicion remains that he still has the ability to shine in the Premier League. Everton fans have embraced ‘maverick’ players in the past and could be the ideal club for Cantwell to prove his worth in the top flight.
