Report: Tarashaj unlikely to go out on loan again

Shani Tarashaj appears to be nearing full fitness again but looks an unlikely prospect for a loan this month.

The young Swiss forward had to undergo knee surgery in Germany over the summer and the Liverpool Echo report that discussions were held about the possibility of sending him out on loan again but that he now looks set to remain with the Blues until the summer at least.

Tarashaj was the final signing of Roberto Martinez's three-year reign as Everton boss when he arrived from Grasshopper Zurich in a £3m deal but has yet to make his first-team debut.

He looked promising in pre-season in 2016 but was eventually loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt for whom he made 15 appearances, scoring once.

His hopes of breaking into the Toffees' senior set-up were dealt a severe blow when he suffered a serious knee injury last year and he has been in rehabilitation ever since.

The 22-year-old is now back at Finch Farm to complete his recovery where it's possible he could get a chance to impress for the Under-23s between now and the end of the season.

You know, I forgot about this lad completely; he has been injured for a while, I know; but surely a loan spell would be beneficial for both Club and player.

Especially now that Oumar is likely to stay till the summer; unless we were unlucky with injuries etc, I couldn't see him even getting a bench slot; probably not registered for first team anyway.

And we criticise the likes of Chelsea for stockpiling a bunch of kids. I’m still waiting for that Vellios lad to breakthrough.

Vellios has made the breakthrough – on the Nottingham Forest bench.

Probably because he has yet to play for us, Tarashaj is currently my favorite player.

He has definintely come to the best club to be injured.

He's definitely still in the running for player of the season!

I was really intrigued by this signing at the time, but it's hard to see any path forward for him at the club, unless he just tears it up for the U23 side. He's essentially lost the past two seasons to injury.

Thought he left years ago. Wasting his career sadly and should probably try and find his level abroad in another league.

Astounded at the injuries and illnesses he suffered.

We really appear to have an injury hex. Onyekuru does his ligaments whilst on loan and this lad also has problems whilst out on loan. Don't know if Tarashaj was good enough but Onyekuru appears to have potential.

Throw in very serious injuries to Bolasie, Coleman, McCarthy and Funes Mori and I really begin to wonder how we can have such horrendous luck in such a short space of time.

For what it is worth, Martinez was very excited at the prospects of this player when signing. I hope he gets well soon and has a good career.

No Steve, that's how many injuries he's got.

Posts 7,8 9 and 15 raised my spirits and made me laugh. Black humour, I know but that and plenty of other reasons make ToffeeWeb great reading. Keep them coming.
