The Toffees have been enduring a miserable run at the moment as they are winless in their previous eight matches across all competitions. Their latest league outing saw them suffering a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion, with the Merseyside club now dropping into the relegation zone. Manager Frank Lampard is currently under enormous pressure and may not survive for another week if Everton succumb to another defeat this Saturday. They have lost all their previous six league encounters and are currently at the foot of the table with a meagre 12 points from 18 matches. Ralph Hasenhuttl has been dismissed from his position with Nathan Jones replacing the Austrian boss in the dugout. However, the Saints have yet to see a lot of improvement under Jones who has failed to pick up any points in the top-flight since his appointment in November. Their previous Premier League fixture saw them losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. But Nathan Jones’ side were excellent in their following two matches in the FA Cup and EFL Cup. Match Preview Everton Frank Lampard’s side cannot afford to lose the upcoming home fixture and must bring their best game this weekend. The Toffees have won only three of their 18 matches this campaign, but they sealed a comfortable victory the last time they met Southampton in October. Conor Coady cancelled out the advantage of Joe Aribo’s goal in the second-half before Dwight McNeil added another to help them win 2-1. Everton’s recent record against the Saints has been very impressive as they have won three of their previous four matches. Southampton Nathan Jones’ position is already under scrutiny as Southampton are yet to pick up a point in the top-flight under the Welsh boss. However, the Saints registered an encouraging 2-1 FA Cup win over Crystal Palace before picking up a shocking 2-0 result against Manchester City in the EFL Cup. Southampton were at the top of their game as they fired two first-half goals to knock the Citizens out of the tournament. They will now face Newcastle United in the semi-final. Both teams are massively struggling in the Premier League and are deservedly in the relegation zone. However, the Saints’ recent wins over Crystal Palace and Manchester City mean they will be more confident than their rivals on Saturday, although fatigue and a come-down from their giant-killing performance will play a role as well. Everton should be able to snatch a win as long as they’re defensively solid – something we can only hope for this weekend Everton 1-0 Southampton Return to Talking Points index : Add your Comments » Reader Comments Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission.
