Doent look like Luke Shaw is going to be fit until the knockout stages, I can't believe Southgate only picked one specialist left back in the squad, as someone said on Talksport this morning he could have taken Mitchell the Palace left back who has had a solid season, if Trippier gets injured who can play left back? Luke Shaw hasn't played since the end of February so I can't see how he could possibly get upto speed even if he is able to get fit in time

No natural left footer in defence for me is a real problem. Foden naturally comes in, so you've a totally lob sided team with no left threat.

England just need to believe in themselves. They should be going all out against Denmark. They are definably a better team and need to take the game to Denmark.

And they should do the same against any of France, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc. The talent on this England team is superb, and they should give no team any respect and look to take the game to the opponent every single time.

I believe that TAA has been valued in the past for his long-distance passing ability from full back and his perception in relation to that. His defending at full back can now be ordinary, and saved by the long-distance passing. Put hum in midfield and long-distance passes are redundant, and his abilities defending are exposed.

Being surrounded by "world beaters" in the premiership doesn't stack up if you're insinuating the foreign "world beaters" make the England players look good. Denmark had 9 players in their squad who play in England, two in the second tier, none of whom are "world beaters." Harry Kane narrowly missed out on breaking a goalscoring record in Germany, ahead of every single player in the seemingly impressive German team. Phil Foden was player of the year. It isn't like the early 2000s when Chelsea would give Jodi Morris a 10 minute run out as a sub and you could legitimately say the 10 foreign players on the field certainly carried him. Other English players who weren't the greatest in the EPL have gone overseas and done much better than they did in the prem e.g. Ashley Young, Smalling, Loftus-Cheek, Tomori, Abrahams, Sancho, Gomes, etc

Alan, players perform at their best when they have a suitable role in a workable system based on and around the abilities of the players and hence team, with enough flexibility as necessary. Then it's a case of getting the belief and mindset as effective as possible.

I know it's easy to sit here and type this but the poor touch and other deserted rudiments are rarely seen at other times. We know what many of these players can do.

The team looked ill at ease and without belief or direction for much of the game. Eventually, even Bellingham became infected.

This very uninspiring tournament requires a "muck and bullets" approach to succeed (in which Germany, WW2 aside, excel).

Way too many of our squad have little or no experience in muck and bullets scenarios, Foden, Kane, Stones being cases in point.

What other country would play in midfield the likes of a full-back with next to no history in a successful midfield position?

What other country would not select a fit, proven left back?

What other country would, as ever, rely on "top club" players even though players from "lesser" clubs have played fabulously for their "lesser" clubs in the most recent months, yet have never yet had a moment on the pitch?

I'm talking about the likes of Branthwaite, Palmer (nobody last season scored/created more goals), Wharton (fabulously gifted with both feet and a sublime tackler/passer), Eze (who in a bog-standard team ripped a new one playing against any team for the latter half of the season), Toney/Watkins (playing and regularly scoring for muck and bullets teams every week).

Instead, Southgate picks Foden out of position, Kane despite the fact he's a way lesser player than he was two years ago, Trippier in a position nigh on as strange to him as playing in goal, Rice who because he's playing for Arsenal is now weirdly deemed to be pre-eminent, and Bellingham because he plays for a team akin to Rangers/Celtic where all so-called opponents are mere lilies to be trampled over.

If you didn't know better you might even think Southgate is (still) clueless.
