I just wonder whether there are any blues like me who are Blue Badge holders and have been unlucky in the EFC ballot for parking places at Hill Dickinson Stadium and are struggling with the parking facilities around the area. My Blue Badge is as a result of lung disease, which means I can’t walk very far.

I attended the test events and the Brighton game and found it very difficult to find a space anywhere near the stadium. Following the test events, I wrote to Liverpool City Council and asked the simple question: “Where can a Blue Badge holder park within easy walking distance of the stadium?”

They replied:

“In the Permit Parking Areas around the stadium, Blue Badge holders can park for unlimited amounts of time as long as they clearly display their Blue Badge. (Please see attached map of parking controls around the stadium.)

On single or double yellow lines (without loading restrictions) Blue Badge holders can park for up to 3 hours so long as the Blue Badge and clock are displayed, and they are not causing an obstruction (For example, within 10 metres of a junction).”

Here is the above-referenced map:

However, when you arrive in the area, a lot of the Permit Parking areas are blocked off, with traffic cones and men in high-viz jackets stopping you from entering. Do any fellow TW Blue Badge holders have any suggestions or ideas? I noticed in another thread that there are apparently disabled bays available in the Tai Pan area, so I might try that, but even then, it’s still a long walk for me…

Thanks, Tony. I think this is a hugely important thing that they have messed up with the new stadium.

I didn't know that allowance for parking on yellow lines — can't see that helping if they are blocking the roads anyway, and I think I'd be nervous the car had been towed away, creating huge problems when you returned..

Tony, the club run two free taxis from Sandhills station to I think Boundary Street for people with mobility issues. Would this be something you could make use of?

You can ring the club to arrange a pick up time, and it's first-come,first first-served for the return journey.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I live in the wild in Wirral and just getting to Sandhills would be a long and tiring problem in itself

This is really bad news for people like yourself, Tony, because the Tia Pan area is as close as you can get to the stadium by car, and it's also a massive conundrum for people, who have got to arrive early to get a parking spot, because of the 3-hour timescale for parking.

My mother's neighbour has got a disabled son and she was telling me they have been parking near Dickinson Street (another street with a lot of warehouses near 10 Streets) but if you're struggling to walk, then it's still probably a bit of a hike, mate.

If I was being cheeky, I would come along Vauxhall Road and then drive into the estate that brings you out on the other side near the bridge, not far from the Tia-Pan, Tony.

I've heard they block it off, but try showing them your Blue Badge and then tell a white lie about one of your family having a visitor's permit waiting for you!

I shouldn't have written that but if these politicians are getting away with absolute “Iron Girder” (that's for Mark Murphy on another thread!) then taking a line from a song out of Matilda, then, “sometimes you've got to be a bit naughty”! Good luck, Tony!

Tony,

"Permit Parking areas are blocked off, with traffic cones and men in high-viz jackets stopping you from entering"

Arent they there to prevent non-Blue Badge holders from entering? Did you approach them?

Sounds strange that they'd employ, and presumably pay, wardens to protect an empty car park?

Tony would park and ride be an option.

Tony, maybe a fold up electric scooter in the boot of your car?

Park at Tai Pan and scooter there.

Is Tai Pan that big Chinese buffet place that's part owned by David James?

When you look at the map, Mark, then it looks like the Tia-Pan, is in the Walter St, area. What I’m suggesting for Tony, to try doing, is to try and get into the Barmouth Way, area, but maybe the ten street area, might be better for after the game, because if he gets out of breath walking, then at least he won’t have to navigate walking up any hills, after the game.

Looking at that map it goes all the way past Greatie, which confirms what a mate of mine told me when he said they have put permits outside his house, and he lives in a little close, which is off Netherfield Rd.

He didn’t even know until he came out of his house and caught a warden going to put a ticket on his car, and when I said I thought this was a bit far from our new stadium, he said he was informed that it was also because of Anfield, which means that the Liverpool fans, must be having the same problems?

The infrastructure is terrible but at least Everton, have got a train station in close proximity, but we need another and Liverpool, also need a train station, now that Anfield, holds around 62.000 people, especially with these draconian parking laws.

I'm coming to the night game v west ham, I have copd.
These suggestions are very helpful for the less able, but I am still amazed at the lack of foresight for general access.
I guess the conditions at night will be at least as testing..

Depending on where you have got to get too after the game, then parking near a train station outside of these parking zones, and then using the train, probably makes the most sense to me, but this isn’t easy for everyone.

I’m going to try the ten streets area on Saturday. I’ll challenge the high viz jacket chaps and show them the email. I’ll let everyone know.

Geoff (8) where the buses drop you off is still a hell of a long walk.

Eric (9) nice idea, but unfortunately illegal. You can only use the city council rented ones within the area and you can’t hold onto them, so trying to get back would be pot luck
