Everton’s winter transfer signing Carlos Alcaraz has taken little time to make a mark on supporters. Signed on loan from Brazilian club Flamengo on deadline day, Alcaraz has made five appearances for the Toffees already and also scored the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. He also set up Beto’s opener in that fixture.
Talking to the club website, the midfielder was keen to point out that the confidence shown by his teammates and manager David Moyes has been instrumental to his great start for the club.
“It’s been a great start, but that start is also based on the confidence my teammates give me on a daily basis, in training, with the warmth I have received from them, so really it’s been very nice,” said Alcaraz.
“With that affection, with that confidence that my teammates give me, I will continue to try to show my game and hopefully things will continue to go well for me, but, more importantly, I hope things go well for the club.”
The 22-year-old was Moyes’ first signing for the club in his second spell in charge and Alcaraz heaped praise on the veteran manager.
“Moyes is a great person, he’s a great manager, he gives me and my teammates a lot of confidence, but maybe more so for me as the last player to arrive in a team that is already set up. He’s a great person and we’re very happy to have him back at Everton.”
The Argentine is still getting used to Merseyside. The bitter cold weather has been a dramatic change compared to life in Rio de Janeiro. The local Scouse accent is also taking him time to get used to.
“I don’t know the city very well, but based on the few things I’ve seen on social media or what people have told me, it’s a very nice city and I’m looking forward to moving into a house so I can go out and explore Liverpool. It’s a bit difficult, the English I hear here is a bit complicated but if you speak to me slowly, I understand a lot. I find it a bit difficult to speak, but it’s going well.”
One teammate that Alcaraz has been particularly close with is Jack Harrison, himself on loan from Leeds United. The winger, who is fluent in Spanish courtesy of his Costa Rican girlfriend, has helped the Argentine adapt to the dressing room and has also struck up a close friendship.
That camaraderie was on display after Alcaraz’s exploits at Selhurst Park - his winning goal set up Harrison - and the two spoke to the media in the post-match media interaction.
“Jack has helped me because he speaks Spanish very well, he tells me that he wants to practise with me,” says Alcaraz with his already-familiar beaming smile. Really, he is a great lad, he is a great player so, to be honest, I am very grateful to him more than anything else for helping me in this, which is the beginning of my time at Everton.”
Everton, of course, have the option to sign him permanently at the conclusion of his loan spell. The midfielder expressed his desire to stay at the club because of the “great fans and the institution” here and is focused on proving himself on the pitch every week.
“It would be great to stay here because the club, the institution, the fans... they’re great. It’s very crazy but that’s why I’m very calm and will keep doing the work I’ve been doing and show what type of player I am.”
The fans have already taken a liking to the Argentine and the way he shows passion on the field. He witnessed the loyal support of the Blues on the trip to London to face Crystal Palace which included a chant with his name, to the tune of Give It Up by KC and the Sunshine Band.
“You can really feel the love the Everton fans have for the club, for the shirt and that makes them a great fanbase. I heard the chant during the match and it filled me with a lot of pride because it was my third match, my first as a starter. I had those nerves and that desire to do things well.
“So to hear the fans singing my chant during the match, and then when the match finished, they sang it again, it was a very nice moment and it made me very proud. Hopefully, that will be a breakthrough for me and for Everton from here on out for the rest of the season.”

I hope we take up the option.

Really likeable player with a lot of potential.
Interesting story too - and reminds us these young men (sometimes boys) have a hell of a journey. Still only 22 and onto his 5th club and 4th country. Good on Harrison for helping him acclimatise.

He looks an absolute bargain and at 22 and a great prospect in the making.
As he matures and gets fully used to the Premier League he is only going to get better.
A few more gems like him in the summer would be welcomed.

He has a chance at Everton, and I would back David Moyes to make a wise decision about his future.

He had already showed Flashes in his Cameos, hitting the post with a free kick.
He looks Hungry.
Lets hope that he has set the Bar!

I have that feeling about this kid.
13 Posted 05/03/2025 at 01:39:21
Have I missed a lot of background information? Had he ever been linked with us before January?
It almost seemed like it was a (behind the scenes) done deal before he got on the plane or Flamengo were desperate to move him on.
Just got to go with the ‘never look a gift horse in the mouth vibe and hope it is that rare ‘match made in heaven scenario.

We haven't had a proper ball carrying midfielder since Ross Barkley and certainly haven't had a proper pass it master since James Rodriguez.

I do think we will still see Doucoure starting ahead of him frequently (which will frustrate some people) as Alcaraz understandably still needs to work on facets of his game and his enthusiasm (similar to Iroegbunam) sees him sometimes press at the wrong time and leave crucial passing lines open. But he has the work rate (and obviously superior attacking qualities) to enable him to become a long term fixture in Doucoures spot or indeed elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong I want the lad to be a success, but I think we need to see him play more games to make a realistic judgement.

23 Posted 05/03/2025 at 10:15:49
By the way Sam I agree with you that Doucoure will be picked because his energy is still needed in midfield and for the pressing game but why cant the two of them play in the same team?

Dave, no reason they can't start in the same team. Different players, but like Iwobi, when playing for Everton, Doucoure is a bit of an enigma. Tongue in cheek, I think it's down to which feet he puts his boots on if his teammates forget to label them L & R!

He meant to take a touch and square it to Beto…
29 Posted 05/03/2025 at 11:10:59
Danny (26) I think you summed up Doucoure very well also this Everton squad which really is short of talented and skilled players and that is one big reason why it is great to see Alcaraz in the team and hopefully does enough to keep him here and Peter Mills (10) hit on the fact that he has been around quite a bit for such a young man but has never settled down in one place, maybe the only doubt I have about him, nothing about his football ability though!

31 Posted 05/03/2025 at 11:31:21
I think he is needed in this poor Everton squad but Sam would you want Everton to sign him now and how many premier
league teams would sign him now if they had to pay a fee for him?
32 Posted 05/03/2025 at 12:02:02
Plenty of opportunity to use Charly though - either as a 2nd half sub for Doucs or an alternative to Harrison/Lindstrom who continue to offer little by way of goals or assists (though cannot fault the work rate of either).
33 Posted 05/03/2025 at 12:02:31
I would happily sign Doucoure as a squad player but probably only on a free and for around £50-60k p/w. Hes no Lionel Messi clearly but works his socks off whilst managing 50 goals from central midfield (or slightly advanced) is not too shabby. He scored a great goal to keep us up on the final day against Bournemouth and has done more than enough in his career to be proud of from where Im sat.
34 Posted 05/03/2025 at 12:38:36
I wouldnt argue too much about his career record that is a more about personal opinions, but giving him a reduced wage of £50- £60 p/w as a squad player is stretching it a bit Sam especially at his age although he might get a lot more than that if he moves to the league where Gerrard has just had his comics and P45 handed to him.
35 Posted 05/03/2025 at 12:39:21
He's given us a few good moments. Yes, the Bournemouth goal, and his performance in the 5-1 at Brighton and for standing in front of the Kopites after Tarkowski's screamer alone, he gets elevated status. Let's hope he's playing at Anfield next month for round 2!!

Apparently he does have a mate playing for the Red Shite who is also Argentinian, ie, Mac Allister, but he can go any bury his face etc?
41 Posted 05/03/2025 at 19:49:45
Keith, there's even a chance that there will be a Spanish speaker or two among the fourteen or fifteen players we bring in over the summer.

Manny Fernandes was an absolute baller his first go around with us.
He was pants during the second.
I'd be thrilled if Charly was anywhere close to the first iteration of Manny.
