Everton U21s 1 - 2 Arsenal U21s

Everton U21s returned to action on Friday evening but narrowly lost to  Arsenal U21s at The Big Help Stadium in Southport.

Arsenal were unbeaten in their past three outings, having taken a point at Crystal Palace in their most-recent fixture, and carried on this form with two unanswered goals in the first half. 

Aled Thomas got one back shortly after the break but it was not to be.

Everton U21s: Leban, Dixon (46' Barker), Samuels-Smith, Tamen, Welch, Thomas [Y], Benjamin, J Patterson [Y] (66' Butterfield), Sherif (46' Ebere (86' Van Schoor)), Gomez, Graham.

Subs not Used: Barnsley.

I've just tuned in to watch Dixon make a great run after being fed by the Number 7 (excuse my ignorance). Good header from Graham just wide.

Losing 2-0 with both goals attributed to poor defending by Dixon who might be carrying an injury according to one supporter — not watching myself due to red tape which could be my fault.

Back to 2-1 and Benjamin just fluffed his lines with a glorious chance.

Leban saved a penalty to keep us in the game.

I thought the lads played well and deserved better but ran out of steam towards the end and couldn't get that equalizer.

Omar Benjamin had a good game but some of the others didn't live up to their reputations – notably Roman Dixon, Reece Welch and Braiden Graham.

They were up against a very good Arsenal side though.

The Arsenal youngsters did look a good team. Not a bad performance from Everton.

Armstrong is obviously a very good prospect but hopefully we can find ourselves a star in the youth ranks somewhere - even if we have to buy-in the talent from somewhere.

Agree Robert. Hopefully the loan will help his development and he'll be ready for first team involvement at Everton. He's already had a taste.

Likewise with Dixon, who has had a brief taste. Maybe time to send him out on loan or get him in and around the first team squad?

I'm inclined with the latter, given our lack of numbers in the full back positions. Unless we pull one out of the bag in the summer.
