We were warned not to expect much in the way of transfers this winter... and as we enter the final day of the transfer window, Angus Kinnear and David Moyes have proved to be true to their word.

There have been of course plenty of links claiming that a host of names are being courted as future stars to grace the fantastic Hill Dickinson Stadium... but none had got as far as the altar before the deadline.

The most consequential incoming move we have seen occurred early in the window, when Moyes recalled Harrison Armstrong from what was intended to be a season-long loan at Preston North End in the Championship. And it appears that the lad has done well enough to retain his place in the Everton first-team squad beyond today's deadline.

Everton apparently tried to pry Harry Wilson away from Fulham with an offer last week that was turned down by the Cottagers.

Everton have agreed a loan move for 19-year-old Chelsea winger  Tyrique George to replace Jack Grealish, who is not expected to recover from a stress fracture in his foot before the end of the season. George completed his medical on Monday, but his Deadline Day arrival wasn't confirmed until well after the deadline.

Meanwhile, a slew of Everton Academy players have gone out on loan in the last month:

  • Francis Okoronkwo has joined Doncaster Rovers in their quest to aviod relegation from League One;
  • George Finney will spend the rest of the season north of the border at Ayr United;
  • Will Tamen crossed the River Mersey to join Tranmere Rovers;
  • George Morgan has gone to the south of France where he will play for fellow TFG club AS Cannes in the 4th tier of French football;
  • Eli Campbell has joined League One strugglers Port Vale on loan;
  • Martin Sherif has also joined Port Vale for the rest of the season after being recalled from his loan with Rotherham;
  • And it seems Reece Welch may be added to this list with Hibernian expressing interest from the Scottish Premiership;
  • Also followed by Jack Patterson, who has signed on loan for Polish club LKS Lodz until the end of the season.

There has been plenty of talk about the poorer players currently filling out the Everton squad seeking greener pastures elsewhere, but Everton have reportedly rejected a move to Juventus for Beto, while the futures at Everton for Tim Iroegbunam and Nathan Patterson were hanging in the balance only for nothing to transpire on the day; they both remain Everton players.

Perhaps the most surprising rumour was that Crystal Palace would be willing to stump up a remarkable fee of £20M for Dwight McNeil, who has had only one decent game this season. That was literally too good to be true... and the deal eventually collapsed.

Perhaps the most worrying of those stories is the claim that Everton are considering a deadline-day deal to sign Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips to bolster their squad, according to Caught Offside.

Everton are supposedly "monitoring the situation", as they don't want to pay Manchester City's current £10M asking price for a player with severe performance and injury issues in recent years.

Eleven or so hours to with that late registration thing to get us two full backs and a striker. If not, TFG have let us down badly, with a European place not silly speculation - I think - and in a scrunched up 6th-15th the chances are so much better for banking decent money, money enough to buy a good full back.

Another midfield kid should not be our top priority.

We could do with a Martinez-like deadline day, when he got Lukaku, Barry & McCarthy. Not holding my breath tho'.

Branthwaite is a far better left back than Mykolenko but we need to build our defence around him as a centre half.

I reckon, short term, Moyes will look to play Jarrod left back until we sign one in summer.

Shame for Patterson, he's done fine recently, and will want to be playing. He wont want to miss out on a world cup place. What an opportunity.

Moyes will still persist with JOB at Right back no doubt.

I think I will try and get “ High Noon” on the internet, a great film with the minutes ticking away before Gary Cooper gets the job done, I hope I’m wrong but I think it will be a lot more interesting than watching the transfer deadline come and go.

No doubt Ebeneezer Moyes will be sitting around a candle with his fingerless mittens on right up till the deadline, pondering on another obscure winger,

“Naw! Naw! What’s this talk of a new centre forward ?

Beto will doo for now, keep your pennies Dan fried chicken. An yer can forget about any talk of new fullbacks, everyone knows a like playing lampposts. ”

Tyrique George is a no brainier for us really. We need more options wide left post Grealish, he has pace and trickery. Loan move with sensible price option.

Not sure he’s a typical Moyes type, but I’m pleased to see him. Will give us something different going forwards.

Pity there aren’t a couple more loan options in the pipeline, particularly full backs.

Fulham have rejected an enquiry from Everton for midfielder Harry Wilson.

The approach is understood to have arrived last week but was turned down by the Cottagers.

Wilson is out of contract in the summer, when he can leave for nothing, but Fulham are adamant they do not want to sell the 28-year-old this month.

Talks over a new contract are currently on hold, but Fulham want to tie Wilson down to fresh terms.

Elijah Campbell going out on loan could be good for him. He can play LB and CB. Moyes won't play him so he'll get plenty of football at Port Vale and our new manager next season might give him a chance!

Phil Roberts
23 Posted 02/02/2026 at 10:41:20
John, Elijah Campbell is 21 and he is now going out to a team at the bottom of the 3rd tier of English Football.

No manager in the Premier League would give him a chance next season or any season after that. If he has not made it by now, he never will make a Premier League defender. Nothing to do with Moyes.

Should we feel sorry for Elijah? Will he now be condemned to a life of poverty? Well, yes because he will not fulfil his dreams. But he will be earning (probably) £250,000 per year. Only downside is he will have to give almost half of that to Rachel at Number 11. But he will have a far more comfortable life than most of us.

No wilson's are coming either harry and I see no easydor entrance for the sunderland striker.

Haven't got any faith in rival clubs allowing their players to leave, and abroad may be more likely, clubs in italy are struggling financially so they might listen to offers, french clubs are selling clubs aswell.

The netherlands, belgium, switzerland and nordic countries have to be the market this month.

So here we are. The unpredictable, gossip, speculation & failed lazy jornalist predictions that make transfer deadline day.

I'm not a big fan, but some enjoy it. The clubs have had since 1st January, yet wait until the end. Moyes' midnight oil will be burning until 6:59pm today!!

For Everton, incomings are anyone's 2nd guess, although the club has had an initial bid equiry for the Welsh winger / attacking midfielder, Wison.

I can an unqualified guess at outgoings, with the huge caveat I just don't know:

Charley Alcaraz. I.hope not, certainly not today. Maybe in the summer as he goes into his final contracted season, so club & player have a decision to make.

Illiman Ndaye. Totally gutted & not today, but summer is a possibility as he can play at a higher level. European quallification will be key to keeping him & attractin types of player that will improve us further.

Beto. If.the right offer from the right club comes in, both parties could be tempted. It would need immediate investment in a replacement, so unlikely for niow.

Aznou to be farmed out on loan??

So, strap in for the bi-annual wild gooose chase. Anyone's guess.

I tend to go with the don't expect much sentitiment.

Ray Jacques

More chance of signing harold Wilson than Harry Wilson. Weve had 3 weeks to try and sign the lad, so why wait until last week to make an offer to Fulham.

A decent film to watch would be The Searchers with John Wayne. maybe he could locate a right back for us.

I remember that now Eric.

Think Alan was in with Waynes agent.

Not needed at the time as was Moyes reference to the two players I mentioned when he was at Utd and made a stupid bid for both players.

"I know if id been Everton manager and Sir Alex came asking for Baines and Fellaini,id have found it very difficult to keep them,I always felt the right thing to do was what was right for the players"

Can’t see McNeil going today. In fact, expect him to start at Fulham on the left, and if we’re lucky he gets hooked at halftime, TG replaces him, creates absolute havoc and we’re left wondering why tf he didn’t start.

Despite the thinness of squad, if Palace and Forest are fighting over McNeil for £20M, then that's business we have to do, though Tyrique George has to be tied up first.

We can't allow Patterson to depart unless there's a full-back coming the other way. Saying O'Brien can fill the gap doesn't work.

Must be a terrible lack of right-footed full-backs as Everton still unable to find a replacement for Coleman.

But, as they believe they do not need one, it will be interesting to see if any more goals or assists come from the opposition left winger or Everton right winger gets backup from his right-back.

Everton would not sanction a loan move for Dwight McNeil before the deadline amid interest from Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have been exploring a move for the English winger. Nottingham Forest have also shown interest in reuniting McNeil with Sean Dyche.

Sky Sports News understands it would take something significant for them to let the winger go at this late stage.

They are also unlikely to accept a loan with the guarantee of a permanent option.

Quite surprised really that it appears Ivan Toney is not moving anywhere this month on a short deal what with the World Cup this summer.

Paul Griffiths

TFG and their crack recruitment team with 150 minutes to go have again failed to address our glaring needs. Full backs and a striker. Another young winger. Great. It's down the list and how many minutes will he get?

There seems to be more on outgoing than incoming, and that's deeply worrying with a thin squad. 20 million for McNeil? Well, to cancel the money we might spend on George so that Saint Daniel the Absent will have spent fuck all on us. Unlike Roma, where he actually goes to matches.

Jimmy Carr
58 Posted 02/02/2026 at 17:03:25
Paul (57) .

Do you think it's a good idea to go fishing for over-expensive deals in the limited January market? I don't. I'd rather we waited.

The issue with the right back has been going on since well before TFG took over. As long as Patterson sticks around, I'm quite happy to wait that one out until the summer when we'll get better value for money.

Do you think a quality striker is going to be available in this window at a price we can afford? And another winger? And a left back? I would imagine we'd have to offload players before we brought any of that wish list in.

It's a quiet window as most clubs have sussed out that it's over-priced and they often can't get the players they want anyway. Due to the improved form we've shown over the last year, we are not in the position of a West Ham or a Palace who are basically spending to stay up.

I think that's a better place for the club to be in. Don't you?

Paul, you didn't say loan deals and you did specify four positions in your post. I don't think anyone in the Prem was looking for four players in this window, with the possible exception of Palace and West Ham who are both a bit desperate. We're not.

Would have loved to see a decent striker come in on loan but they don't grow on trees, especially in January. I am hoping Beto goes in the summer and our scouts have targets in hand for that position. Same for left back too.

As I said, our improved form has not left us vulnerable to hasty moves, I'm hoping we use that to our advantage when the time comes.

They've sold an unwanted player for a decent fee that's out of contract in 18 months time.

They've secured garner to a new contract.

They've signed a promising playe on loan, and can make it permanent if he impresses

They've added £20m cash to the balance sheet, which helps next summer.

That is all an improvement on 1st January.

I’m sick of going through January, following rumours, thinking we’ll strengthen then watching the deadline pass. Very little ambition. Why not sell McNeil and get Wilson in? Still poor options up front and at right back.

Your statement that we are weaker than 1st January, isn't correct.

Has it addressed the squad issues, no, but there isn't a huge number of players that have moved that I think we missed out on either.

I thought Connor Gallagher was a good move, but watching him yesterday, I think hes gone navkwards, bar a very good cross.

Brennan Johnson I thought was a decent move.

A couple of young Brazilians moved, guehi, Semenyo. But not a lot else.

Shame couldn't get Wilson. Proves good teams don't want to sell good players mid season.

TW never ceases to amaze me. Not long ago Patterson was generally considered “Champtionship at best” now he’s flavour of the month. I am delighted for him and thought he was my MOM at the Sunderland cup game although he had very little competition. The think that amuses me is this call for Aznou to replace Mykolenko. How many games have we seen him play. Is he a better defender than Mykolenko, yes again against Sunderland he hared up the wing, certainly brought pace into the game got us a very dodgy penalty while loosing control of the ball. Finally I don’t remember him sending in any probing crosses. Mykolenko is a good defender but tends to be caught out if he moves too far upfield to support our attack when we lose the ball. Hence he is cautious about moving up too far. Do we really know if Anjou is any better. I would have my doubts. I would certainly like to see him being given more of a chance but starting, definitely not until we see what he can do. Dare I say it he reminded me of Doucs all action but limited ball control and we all know how popular he was. Almost as popular as Dwight is now.

Is this three transfer windows under TFG?

Money spent last summer would have been Sky/TNT/Premier League cash?

Nice new staduim inherited. Are we going to see something abit more substantial from TFG on the pitch? Maybe i'm just an impatient fucker and they have thier reasons for not spending any of thier money.

great news for us. You would have thought if it had gone to the summer he'd have decided to sit on his contract and leave for nowt, whilst we pay him. So we've saved £25m. He was our key man for a couple of years. it's crazy to think of the stick these players get the moment they fall out of favour despite their previous efforts.

A good deal all round.

Dear God, if we are including injuries. Hardly the point, the window does not fix injuries, unless I have missed something. It's still the same player, too, even if on a new contract. I wave a white flag: the first half v Brighton clearly shows how right you are with all those players returning and all these ace new contracts.

I'll try to make this clear. Grealish will not play again this season, it seems, and whatever you might think of him, McNeil has left this parish. In actual numbers we are down one if George joins us to most likely have a three-handed poker game with Dibling and Aznou on the bench.

Ian, with respect, this is just lazy and misconceived: '. but there isn't a huge number of players that have moved that I think we missed out on either'. That really gets us off the hook? All those clubs were looking at the same pool of players? Whatever happened to individual endeavour and creativity? We've had five months since the last window to get a right-back in on loan.

it's not about just identifying the player. The club who are selling also need to replace, so it's usually a huge chain. And if teams are facing relegation or Europe they won't feel like trading even if it's a good deal, look at Fulham with Wilson. And even if they are minded to, they won't do it until the last minute. We've had two come in, and two go out. So it's as you were.

20m for Dwight mcneil !!!!!!

I mean this is why you don't buy in January!!!

This screams good business, can aznou, Dibbling or George not offer what mcneil has in the first half of the season?

This deal basically pays for merlin Rohl, I'd swap them if I was offered.

Good luck to Dwight McNeil. He wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but he has given us some good service, scored a few very good goals and the club have got their money back.

It looks like we have got two different camps, the people who think TSF, are doing a very good job and the people who are bemused by the this sale because it leaves a very small squad even shorter on numbers, after the loss of Jack Grealish, the other week.

I shook my head when we weren’t active at the very beginning of this window, but this is because I’d looked at the fixtures, looked at what a few victories could have done for the ‘desperate for success Evertonians’ with a few of our better players ready to return from injury and the AFCON, and realised that the saying about there being no time like the present, simply didn’t apply to our owners this time around.

Maybe this will change in the future, but anyone who can’t see that there was a real window of opportunity for us to really push on after we beat Forest, is obviously happy to see Everton, just making up the numbers?

It’s gonna take time, a whole lot of precious time, so hopefully this kid from Chelsea, can give us a little bit of excitement🤞

Paul, there are loads of players id go in for. But most aren't available, and many wouldn't come if they were.

So, reasonably I've looked at the players that have moved, and thought have we missed out.

Even momeyed teams buy in the bracket we are looking at. Look at the players city have signed from £25-50m. Its tough when youre 7-10th in the pecking order.

But we just need to focus on building for the future. I'd rather have Dibling playing and learning for the rest of this season, yeah he will make mistakes, but we are safe and not going to get into Europe, so let's just give the next generation game time.

We are mid table and making progress. Disappointed by the lack of signings but believe there is a long term plan in place.

I would sooner have this than previous windows where we wasted millions on shite players on big wages who we couldnt get rid of and an owner who interfered and ruined the club.

Ray @ 127, leave Moyes alone to keep building? Does that mean we will be looking to add more centre backs in the summer, to play full back?

Or more young, promising, talents that aren't ready for the first team?

If I thought we would add more creative and attacking talent during the summer, plus a left and right back of course and then Moyes would at least ease off the defensive shackles, then I could actually get behind the man.

Sadly he has never shown any long term attacking intent and I don't expect him to change now

With mcneil gone, aznou has a chance of playing left wing, maybe david has options without bringing anyone else.

We all would like a right back, a left back, a gueye replacement and a couple of strikers, not because we don't have players there, but because the ones we have are pup.

As for names I would have liked osula on loan from newcastle, he was one of the best players in the last u21 euro's and even scored against the other lot, and he was up for grabs on loan.

Annika, we've needed a right-back for 5 years so it's unfair to put that on Moyes. He hasn't signed a centre-back, they were here before him, but he has revived Michael Keane's career.

We signed Barry, Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall in the summer plus Dibling, all attacking players. Again, we have awaited a decent centre-forward since Lukaku left.

I get the frustration but, outside the top 4 or 5 teams, no one in the Premier League plays gung-ho, attacking football.
We are not at the top level and can't compete financially. Look what Liverpool did in the summer, and Man City have done this January. We are millions and millions of pounds off this.

You can't deny that on the pitch we have progressed massively in the past 12 months. For example, last season early doors McNeil was one of our star players; now the majority are happy to see the back of him.

I do get it, but it's competitive and tight in the Premier League, you can't just attack, attack, attack or you will be beaten most weeks.

David West
149 Posted 02/02/2026 at 21:00:10
Coleman started right-wing / right-midfield; it could be a way of toughing Aznou up ready for the Premier League. There's options, all with upside compared to McNeil, who is only waiting to move on!

I hope Wilson wants to come in the summer though, I'd take Mateta too.

Tony & Neil, I will never stop believing, but I'm getting older and a saying that I have been using since I was a child (when I sometimes used to witness the ignorance of adults) is that there is no fool like an old fool.

I know that Everton will become what they have been before once again but I just don't know when that will be. Without hope we have nothing... and without belief we might as well just give in.

I've jibbed going to a few games this season, and it's not because of the ground, it's because of the football. A new beginning but without real belief -- how can we expect much from our new owners when they haven't even taken the time to come and see us?

I've read the excuses, I understand the certain points of view for why it doesn't concern some people. I am also a person who understands that football is about many things but, for me, a club like Everton is all about emotion. (Coach welcome to rally a club that was dying on its feet.)

My emotions now are littered with boredom, a new beginning but a feeling that mediocrity has become acceptable to a lot of Evertonians, and a belief that things won't change until enough people demand more.

Tony Abrahams
152 Posted 02/02/2026 at 21:20:08
Ian@146, when Moyes got us to 4th place all those years ago, his team never scored that many goals and finished on a minus goal difference.

(With hindsight, conceding seven after turning up half pissed at Highbury, showed how the overall standards and professionalism of the club, had began to dwindle -- even though it was a fantastic achievement.)

We won at Villa 2 weeks ago with a narrow victory, and I'm certain if we could repeat the system that was used in every game, we would have been in the running for a Top 4 finish right now.

Mark Taylor
155 Posted 02/02/2026 at 21:24:41
I think it is getting desperate if we start counting players back from Afcon or injury or even loans as new additions, or at least it is if we are to have any ambition.

Depending on the deal, swapping McNeil for George makes sense but I only hope Moyes is fully signed up to play him. We do not need more Diblings and Aznous who are theoretically in our squad but Moyes clearly won't pick unless there is no other option with a pulse.

We've had years to sort out the full-backs and add pace out wide, and 3 TFG windows. You could say they are saving for a big summer splash or they are just stringing us along. At best, the jury is out on them and I think the summer window will be a very clear indicator of what we can expect and aspire to.

Neil Tyrrell
156 Posted 02/02/2026 at 21:25:13
Yes Tony, the worst thing that can happen is apathy setting in. Happens to me every January when we're already out of both cups, and here we are again as that goes.

But this season we have a realistic chance to qualify for Europe, if the manager takes the handbrake off and we get a bit of luck. Who Dares Wins.

Tony Abrahams
157 Posted 02/02/2026 at 21:30:27
The system is absolutely everything, Mike.

What did Dewsbury-Hall say about the second half against Leeds? We got closer to each other and we played with more aggression (not to mention how much this helps to engage the crowd). This is exactly why the system is so important, Mike, because it's one of the few times that we have seen Everton be hard to play against, whilst also posing a threat at the other end.

Hopefully Branthwaite's pace will enable us to play closer? It's not about playing deep or pressing high, it's about shutting off the space in between the lines. Well, that's how I see it anyway.

Mike Gaynes
158 Posted 02/02/2026 at 21:31:26

It's not normal to finish with a negative goal difference though, Tony. But I understand the need for hope.

Going through a perfect season winning 1-nil every week is a really tall ask given the set pieces, VAR and huge amounts of injury time these days. Certainly a lot harder than 2005.

For me, you need more than that to achieve. You have to be defensively sound, but you've got to have goals in you. You have to have a Plan B when Plan A isn't working. And that's why I think we are short.

Pleased we got George over the line as it will give us pace and so many more options being able to use either flank.

As for McNeil, maybe despite the clerical error there is a verbal agreement to resurrect in the summer.

As for the ongoing saga at full-back, I will be fascinated to see who eventually ends up playing left- or right-back... and if the manager says, "This is the player we wanted but we had to wait."

I hope it's worth the wait!!

Forest grabbed a young left wing back before the window closed. A German U21 regular.

The lad only had 6 months remaining on his contract so cost just £2.5 million. So there were bargains put there if we really wanted them.

Why bother though, when you can just use 4 centre backs in defence

So did I Dave. He was a breath of fresh air when he came on but as I said already I saw no end product.

No cross into box, he won a dubious penalty while losing the ball and falling over in the box. But the big questions are can he retain the ball the ball and use it constructively or will he lose it and we are back peddling and secondly can he defend. For me as I said already he reminded me of Doucs and we all know how popular he became. Yes I would love to see what he can do but I do not want to sew us become totally exposed and he then becomes the latest whipping boy.

Neil, one could just as easily ask how do you know Mykolenko is better than this guy? We don't.

But we do pay recruitment staff vast sums of money to know and if after 3 windows, there really isn't a better left-back than Mykolenko out there in the big wide world, then the world is a very strange place.

As you say, can such a left-back retain the ball and use it constructively because you need progressive full-backs in modern football. We know Mykolenko can't. He's a plucky backs-against-the-wall defender.

Tony A (151): How can we expect much from our new owners when they haven't even taken the time to come and see us?

Spot on, Tony. I remember Mr Gaynes in one of his misguided defences of his corporate heroes answering this point by listing five clubs, I believe it was, whose owners in his counterblast did not go to the matches.

He was dead wrong about two of them at least and the hilarious thing was that he seemed to have forgotten that Saint Daniel the Absent does go to Roma matches. You couldn't make it up.

Neil @173.

I never suggested he was better than Mykolenko. My point was there were bargains to be had in the January window. When many on here were telling us there weren't.

But do you know if he is better, or not? So are you banging the same old drum?

Annika, I'm disappointed we didn't bring in at least a right-back too but who are these bargains that would have come to Everton if we had tried for them?

And don't forget, we had Tete on the line in the summer but that didn't happen (and btw, I've not seen him earning rave reviews since).

As I said, I'm disappointed; we could've pushed for Europe, but I'd rather we shopped wisely than in haste.

Dave @ 168 re Aznou...
.
So did I mate, but playing Devil's Advocate here, Moyes saw a raw young lad lose the ball twice trying to dribble when he could've kept possession.

Hopefully his time will come.

"Neil, one could just as easily ask how do you know Mykolenko is better than this guy? " -- Mark @174.

Well considering TFG bought a Super Duper Moneyball analytics team, they should surely be able to tell us these things?

Mark @ 179, the player I am talking about is the young left wing back that Forest signed. German U21 international, almost out of contract and cheap at £2.5M.

Apparently he is highly rated but I have no idea if he is better than Aznou, never mind Mykolenko. But, at that price, surely worth a gamble?

But he is apparently quite attack-minded. Not a Moyes type player at all...

I had a little scroll through the top 40 by valuations at left back and right back.

If you take out the players that wouldn't come and the 30 somethings, and those that you know that arent better than weve got, then there isn't many players youd go for that we havent been linked with.

From it, you can see the recruitment team are either faced with plucking a promising kid with no experience, or a bit of an average lad. Norton-Cuffy seems the best of the rest, but his performance ratings and attacking output haven't been great. That seems to be the case bar the Swedish lad that went to Juventus.

Perhaps have a look yourself, before moaning we have signed this or that. We all know the problem, finding the answer is the hard bit.

Ian @162, I think you know your football mate, but that's why my posts keep alluding to a system because I genuinely don't see anything discernible when I watch us play.

We could be using plan A-B or even C, imo Ian, because I don't see many things that I can identify from week to week, except that we are very rigid.

Hi Annika, yes, I saw your post re him after posting. I was scrolling backwards through the night's posts.

He may be “a find” but, just because another team buys a cheap right-back, it doesn't mean we could've or should've done the same.

We may have looked at him and said "No thanks". We may have approached him and he said "No thanks". He may be great, he may be shite.

I'm hoping we're being selective rather than lazy and biding our time for the right players. We've opted for some shite fill-ins in the past.

Which one of the 7 Champions League clubs in for him did Sterling sign for?

Lots of talk of lack of expectation and ambition from us fans.

The only clout supporters have is physical protest or stop paying to attend Everton games, but that's cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Other than that, most realise that owners of clubs down the pecking order are now limited in what they can spend even when they want to sign better players.

That's the barrier that kills expectation and ambition.

Mark @ 185, I fully agree mate he could be a truly awful player. I really don't know much about him at all.

I was just making the point that there were bargains to have during the January transfer window.

But, if he does turn out to be a poor buy, I will deny ever having mentioned him!

I think he's a left-back though, not a right-back. I have also done a little more checking on him and some of his coaches think he may be better suited as a left-sided midfielder

Ian @ 183, sorry I didn't realize I had to check with you before posting my opinions.

But, now I fully understand you are always correct in all footballing matters, I shall check with you before I express my opinions.

Maybe you should take a good look at yourself before diving in with criticism that doesn't match your opinion?

Mark and Annika,

The Athletic reports tonight (US time) that we made approaches for two right-backs in this window, Strasbourg's Guela Doue and Genoa's Brooke Norton-Cuffy, but the timing wasn't right for either deal. Both stayed with their clubs and we may go back in for either or both in the summer.

Here's a line from Paddy Boyland's article guaranteed to drive a lot of people here absolutely crazy:

'David Moyes sets the bar high when it comes to assessing right-back targets and Jake O'Brien has earned the manager's faith in a makeshift role.'

Mike @ 191, the guy I was referring to is a left back, not a right back. Time will tell if he is actually very good though.

Definitely worth a gamble for £2.5M though. Not that I was suggesting Everton should have been in for him. I was just stating that there were bargains to be had.
