Everton will host Bournemouth at Hill Dickinson Stadium on the back of a five-game unbeaten run.

The Toffees came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was instrumental in that comeback and had a hand in both the goals.

Everton haven’t lost since the 4-2 defeat to Brentford at home in their first game of the new year. That improved run has seen them climb to eighth in the league table with 37 points, two points shy of Brentford, who currently occupy the provisional UEFA Conference League qualification spot.

They have been particularly strong away from home, registering seven of their 10 wins on the road. Included among them was the 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the first-round game between them. It was also the Toffees’ first Premier League win at the Vitality Stadium.

With that being said, their home form has left a lot to be desired. David Moyes’ side have won just four league matches at their new waterfront stadium, with their last victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium coming in early December against Nottingham Forest.

Bournemouth are in a great run of form at the moment. Over the last five league matches, only Manchester United and Chelsea have picked up more points than Andoni Iraola’s side, who are unbeaten across that run.

Rayan Vitor scored to cancel out Morgan Rogers’ goal and secured a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in their most recent outing. The Cherries are currently 11th in the league table with 34 points.

Bournemouth’s form on the road, however, has been dismal with only Wolverhampton Wanderers winning less away from home than the two wins managed by Iraola’s side on their travels.

Everton vs Bournemouth - Team News and Predicted Starting XI

Everton Team News

Everton are currently missing one player due to injury, Jack Grealish. He’s been one of the most important players for the Blues this season and is likely ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

With Jarrad Branthwaite returning from a long-term hamstring injury, it remains to be seen whether he gets the nod over Michael Keane in defence. David Moyes might also be tempted to rest Idrissa Gueye and hand youngster Tyrique George his first Everton start.

Everton’s predicted starting XI: Jordan Pickford (GK), Jake O’Brien, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Vitalii Mykolenko, James Garner, Harrison Armstrong, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Iliman Ndiaye, Thierno Barry, Tyrique George

We'll start with Keane, remember the 'don't change a winning team' mantra.

Eric, nothing against Keane but surely the absolutely dire first halves vs Brighton and Fulham should indicate changes are needed and should be implemented, but will they?

Start O'Brien at centre-back with Patterson at right-back.

Start Rohl for Gana, and George instead of Armstrong.

We might actually win then.

Don't care what team he picks as long as we win.

We have got to start winning our home games, especially if we want to get in Europe.

We need to be in Europe to attract the better players. COYBs

Branthwaite and George have to start.

They will make us more offensive and give us more pace, especially as we need to start on the front foot at home.

Dewsbury-Hall seemed to be limping when he was subbed so has there been any reports on a possible injury?

Or did I only see his top half as he went down some steps?

This will be a tough encounter.

Bournemouth, like us, unbeaten in last 5 and running into some form. Made additions in January replacing Semenyo with the young Brazilian Rayan, who has gone straight into team, alongside another 19-year-old Kroupi.

Jimenez at right back or right wing back, fast with attitude, is exactly what we are missing. They are a big offensive threat.
Our full-back selections will be important to manage this pace.

They're not the biggest side so set pieces could be key for us. Not an easy game, but let's be bold with our team selections, let them worry about us (as per the second half at Fulham) and for once take this opportunity at home.

If we can win tomorrow, then we might open a gap to the teams below us.

We have to play a higher defensive line if we are not to be stretched, so I want to see O'Brien and Branthwaite together.

The team I would like to see (but won't):

Pickford
Patterson O'Brien Branthwaite Mykolenko
Garner Dewsbury-Hall
George Rohl Ndiaye
Barry.

Another excellent away win; however, they mean little if we can't drastically improve our home form... starting tomorrow.

An almost full squad available to the manager negates any excuses. Once the players understand that a game consists of two halves, not one, we may be able to start off the game similarly to the way we seem to finish games.

There are a few things with Bournemouth, under a manager I admire greatly.

Apart from replacing former stars with stars of the future, it's their 'never say die' attitude -- and they keep it up till the final whistle!

If I was the manager, I would select this starting XI:

Pickford
Patterson O'Brien Branthwaite Mykolenko
Garner Gueye
Ndiaye Dewsbury-Hall George
Barry

Subs: Travers, Tarkowski, Aznou, Rohl, Armstrong, Iroegbunam, Beto, Alcaraz, Dibling.

No place for Keane and McNeil on the bench, which is harsh. But just goes to show that we have decent options when all the players are available.

If we can ship out McNeil and Beto in the summer and get a proper centre-forward and a right-back, we have a squad that can compete in 2-3 competitions. But all this is dependent on Moyes being willing to rotate the squad, which he is not known for.

Steve #8,

That's the team I would play; two games in 3 days is too much for Gueye, especially with his age.

But we know how conservative Moyes is?

Home game.

We go above Liverpool if we get 3 points.

Does he stick or twist?

Mike Doyle
14 Posted 09/02/2026 at 15:49:57
Christy - v good point about Gueye. Goal Keepers aside, if memory serves me right, both Alex Ferguson and (whisper it) Klopp were reluctant to ask players in their mid-30s to play 90+ minutes twice in the space of a few days. Klopp in particular was reluctant to play James Milner twice in the same week. Gueye's minutage needs to be managed now that we have alternatives available.

Jarrad and Rohl to replace Keane and Gueye, the rest as you were.

I am sure Moyes will bring back Branthwaite his minutes have to be managed having been out for a while. See KDH said Moyes asked him about George and KDH gave him a glowing report. I think Beto deserves a start, Barry has so many shortcomings that he needs to improve, he cant hold the ball up and is to easily muscled off the ball.As well as James Garner has played this season he needs to get on the scoresheet more often and needs to start making runs into the box.

Moyes said at his press conference that apart from Grealish everybody is fit, so he can certainly refresh the team either from the bench or from the start.

I mentioned about Garner needing to up his goal tally same can be said of Ndaiye, brilliant footballer but doesnt shoot enough. I would like him to play closer to the striker, quite often he will go past 2 or 3 players on the half way line, but we need to give him the chance to take on defenders in and around the box which will hopefully produce more goals.

The betting is :- 11/8 Everton, 2/1 Bournemouth and 9/4 a Draw. approx.

In other words a wide open game according to the layers.

Thats how it seems to me also, but it depends who Moyes picks, you cant have a bet before we know team.

We have a lot more go forward now than whats gone before, so I think the best tactic would be go at them with all guns blazing! We need a fit KDH though.

Saying that I doubt Moyes will do that, he will probably stick with the players that have not failed him. It'll be interesting to see exactly what he does.

I'll be shocked if he changes anybody in the starting XI fitness depending.

Dewsbury-Hall seemed to hobble off at the end so playing again on Tuesday may be an issue there so soon after a hamstring injury.

Pickford

Obrien Tarkowski Branthwaite Mykolenko

Garner gana kdh

Subs

Travers

Keane

Patterson

Beto

Dibling

Alcaraz

Iroegbunam

Armstrong

Rohl

21 Posted 09/02/2026 at 18:19:52
I think we would all like to see the team Steve #8 has picked. The only change I might make is Armstrong for Rohl. However, we know this will never happen as the team will be set up to defend and then only when we are losing will we see a more attacking option. This is a tough game and if we sit back and invite pressure we will lose.

Eric @1 That's exactly what Moyes did after our 2-0 away victory at Forest -- one of our best defensive performances of the season, with O'Brien and Tarkowski as centre-backs. For the next home game, he moves O'Brien to right-back and brings in Keane to partner Tarkowski. Can you remember what happened? We lost 4-2 at home to Brentford!

If it wasn't for Dewsbury-Hall, Keane would have lost us the game on Saturday. It was Keane's poor clearance that led to their goal, he gifted Harry Wilson with a great chance, put our defence under pressure with his bad passing etc.

This is why Moyes will never succeed as a manager. He cannot see what's patently obvious -- and it appears that some of our fans, like yourself, can't either.

John Collins

Over 200 games for Everton, Michael Keane. He has been a poor defender for the majority of his time here; he's done okay at times this season.

" He's improved this season" is a regular shout. He has improved on his previous standards, but he had a low starting position.

My usual breakfast trawl through TW and now surprises.
Love the positivity on this site. All the usual culprits giving out about the manager and the team he will pick before he even picks his team.

They have an old saying: “Paper never refuses ink”. I think I'll wait until a team is picked to make a comment. The only comment is that the players that are picked need to perform as a team, like they did in the second half against Fulham... not like the first half.

Sean #26, look at the stats, with a Keane - Tarkowski partnership, we've gained, what is it now? 25 of our 37 points, maybe more?

And the only reason Keane didn't play against Forest was that he was injured; he would have played otherwise.

Sean, great point about the Brentford game -- I think this match against Bournemouth will show us if Moyes is able to learn and change.

To be fair, we were without a number of key players, but we aren't this time, so the pressure is on Davey to be bold at home. That's what is missing, playing like the home team when at home!

Iraola, on the other hand, is showing some great resilience and ambition. Losing key players and bringing in young players who he plays from the start. I thought maybe his bubble had burst when their form dipped but he's picked it right back up and they play with great intent.

I wonder if Moyes has noticed that Ndiaye's best position is on the left? If so, no excuse not to start him there in this game. After all, we have two right-wingers.

Ian @7 has pointed out the threat Jiminez at right-back poses if allowed to move forward. I think that is why Ndiaye has to play on our left.

Moyes has said he wants a chance again to push for a European place. This is his chance. If we win tonight, depending on other results, we can be 6th by Friday morning if Sunderland beat the Liverpool and Arsenal beat Brentford.

The only other thing I'll say is I would prefer Beto rather than Barry.

Laurie 33 - good point about Ndiaye.

He kept switching to the left on Saturday and was stealing possession and whipping in balls like I haven't seen an Everton player do for a very long time. Until Dibling gets his shit together, though, we're still light on the right.

And yes on Beto starting. Marcos Senesi is decent but Beto could bully him.

Sean O\'Hanlon
36 Posted 10/02/2026 at 11:18:55
Eric @29. He may have played in those games according to your stats, but that doesn't mean he played well. Against Fulham on Saturday, we won the game but he was attrocious.

As I say, if it wasn't for other team members like Dewsbury-Hall, we would have lost the game. We cannot afford to carry players who consistently need to be bailed out by team mates. So your stats have very little credence.

Edward Rogers

Those who think O'Brien will play centre-back tonight may have been watching our games, but they clearly haven't been paying attention.

Good luck with the footy manager lark but, if O'Brien doesn't play right-back tonight, he won't be playing.

Mike Hayes
48 Posted 10/02/2026 at 12:16:33
If Moyes is serious about getting into Europe, and no doubt he is, he needs to start playing players in their right position and giving Rohl, Dibling, George, Alcaraz, Aznou etc the minutes needed to get them not only up to speed but gelling together to build a solid team.

Bring in new players in the summer, right-back and striker if possible, and let the older ones go. Grealish may be worth another punt but with age may be risky given recent injury.

Fingers crossed for a win and 3 points tonight! COYB 💙

John,

At West Ham, he got them a quarter, a semi and a winning final in Europe in three years.

That level of European football is easier than having to always end up getting past the likes of Man City or Chelsea in a domestic final, but he clearly went for the wins in Europe.

Paul @ 45,

I have yet to hear a West Ham fan say they regret Moyes leaving. I trawl lots of fan sites just to hear what they are all saying. Not heard one West Ham fan say anything other than thanks for what Moyes achieved whilst he was here. But it was time to move on.

In his last season there, their results were awful. Including a record amount of goals conceded.

Thankfully he seems reinvigorated now. So let's hope we grab the win tonight and start to improve our poor home record.

Mark Taylor
52 Posted 10/02/2026 at 12:59:33
Normally it's a no brainer to predict a Moyes team. Same as the last won, especially it is was a win and no injuries.

But this is the first time in a while we've had two games in 3 days so he might be tempted to 'manage minutes' even though he usually doesn't. My guess is he'll rest Gana and just maybe one of the CB's, all else rinse and repeat.

To be fair, he'll say it works. Others may be less sure...

Think Moyes brought jarred on the weekend more in mind that myko will play again tonight. I don't see any changes unless he goes with jarred over keane which I doubt.

He may give George at start, just to give Bournemouth something to deal with down the left.

Very nervous about this game. Like Brentford Bournemouth have a very savvy manager so we will have to have a good game plan and play the right players in the right positions in order to win.

I would play O’Shea and Branthwaite in the centre of defence and bring Rohl and George in.

Alan J Thompson
59 Posted 10/02/2026 at 14:31:10
I wouldn't be surprised to see 4 or 5 changes in the starting eleven. One of Branthwaite or O'Brien to start in central defence.

Dewsbury-Hall and Gana rested and George starting. If he's managing Branthwaite's return from injury then the way K-DH limped off on Saturday may mean the same for him and who knows if it isn't Beto's turn to start.

And if he's had a call from Sir Alex he might rest Ndiaye.

All this claim for O'Brien and Branthwaite at centre-back tonight is laudable but the two have never played together so have no partnership understanding.

Ripe for exploitation. Is that what we want. Yes, it is probably the choice of the future but do we want to win games or take a chance on losing them?

Some on here are shouting for Aznou, Dibling, Alcaraz to be given a game which is the same high-risk strategy. We do need to tweak the team but whole scale changes is irresponsible if we have aspirations for Europe.

Annika, I have met loads of West Ham fans in person who would have Moyes back in a heartbeat. If you are basing your judgement on websites, just look at this where the majority are anti-Moyes and will be glad to see the back of him despite the progress in just 1 year.

And "where we were" arguments need some financial and organizational context. The takeover talk and points deduction were a level of pressure that is being heavily discounted with the ra-ra crowd.

Aditionally, the half-season comparisons are unfair given all new managers get the bounce, that is not fully due to Moyes.

Agree, Neil. entirely.

Before Moyes came back, he was linked with a 3rd return to West Ham.

Moyes recently made it clear he has no issues with Sullivan despite the contract situation which ultimately saw him leave West Ham at the end of last season.

This news will obviously not go down too well with many at West Ham, who wanted Moyes out and a change of direction.

There is a section of the fanbase who have been open to a third Moyes stint at the London Stadium, though.

And many who will argue it is ‘better the devil you know' amid links to a host of other bosses.

Moyes riding back into the London Stadium on a white horse looked a complete non-starter until now.

But Nixon's claim could change things.

If West Ham were to go down that road, it would almost certainly see technical director Tim Steidten – who is also under pressure over the club's failings this season – leave the club given the way things ended between the pair.

Good luck with the claim that our improvement is not fully explained by the quality of additions to the squad. It isn't really clear whether the players or Moyes's methods get the credit.

Ultimately, we shouldn't care but we haven't been comfortable with our managerial appointments. This is because of our general condition and style of play.

Moyes has not revolutionized anything. He brought up standards, seemingly commensurate with the improvements to the squad.

Please don't throw away the chance of closing in on a European qualifying place.

It's a great incentive and team builder to signify progress. 1 or 2-0 will do.

Dale @ 72, so in other words, Moyes gets no credit for doing better this season, but if we had not, it's all his fault. Doesn't give him much chance of any praise off you does it!

It's no wonder I've lost count of the number of managers we have had.

Neil @ 64, I too have met many Hammers fans in person and indeed, 2 of my family members are West Ham fans. Not one has ever claimed they wanted Moyes back, or would be happy to have him back.

I don't doubt there must be some that would welcome him back, just as those fans at Everton that were happy to see him back. But not all.

I never claimed that every West Han fan would be unhappy at a Moyes return, just that on all the sites I visit, they most certainly do not want him back.

Ian @ 69, what contract situation? Everything I have read and heard suggested Moyes walked due to not wanting to work with the DOF. Unless, of course, you can give me a different explanation? Not counting guesswork from newspaper reports.

"We do need to tweak the team but whole scale changes is irresponsible if we have aspirations for Europe."

This is an interesting and debatable point and starts with the 'if'. Do we have realistic aspirations for Europe? With Spurs and Forest out of the picture, it's possible but I feel we are unlikely, with this squad, to get ahead of the team in front of us and stay ahead of all behind us in what is a tightly packed group.

An alternative take would be, free of relegation worries, now is a good time to try out alternatives that might leave us in much better shape going into next season when, with a reasonable level of support in the transfer market (maybe not £100M net but something up that way) our chances of Europe, even Champions League, might be much greater. I guess that depends on Friedkin's ambition. Maybe he would prefer the place money and in his heart, doesn't think top 6 is do-able.

Because we do have quite a lot of questions to answer before next season. Are Patterson and Aznou viable full-back contenders? Is Dibling a waste of money or does he just need a run? Is Armstrong Gana's replacement? Or is that Tim? Can Jake play with Jarrod? What can George bring, other than obvious much needed pace, and where are we best playing him along the front line?

Answering these questions, and others, will put us in a better position in summer, both if they are positively answered, but even if negatively answered because it will be even clearer where the gaps are that need filling.

That is the problem, Raymond. I have not said Moyes gets no credit. Those are "in your words" not "in other words".

I understand football escapes usual rules of argument but the over-the-top simplification of the criticism of Moyes is really not doing any of us any good talking about it.

Dale, I can understand English when I read it.

Read your post again, you're putting the credit in the squad's performance now down soley to improvements in the quality of the new players.

Nei l(#73);

Don't know as I haven't heard all of them but judging by those I have, No.

Or are you asking if "All Irish" sounds similar to something? That's bloody English for ya!

In over 11 years, we have not won any silverware under Moyes. Not even a League Cup! Okay -- reaching one cup final which we lost.

The record speaks for itself. Moyes is not a good manager. Lacks guile, motivational skills, and knowledge of his own squad.

Will it be another first 45 minutes run-around by the opposition, followed by a better Everton performance in the 2nd half?

Why can't he motivate the team for a full 90 minutes??? But don't worry, Keane will solve all his problems. The quicker Moyes leaves our club, the better!

Prediction: 1-1

I am simply putting Moyes's progress in proper context.

Yes, we pile on when he gets selections and tactics wrong. I think we actually provide some debatable points of criticism. I try to not characterize the other side too much and just make whatever point I believe deserves attention.

The pro-Moyes camp typically does the school yard thing and has some fun with the posters who are, usually temporarily, on the wrong foot.

My claim isn't that it is strictly either/or. We simply don't know if it is Moyes leading the way or him benefitting from a better squad.

It is an important consideration when evaluating the "my, my, what are you all complaining about" perspective.

Most of them under his mate who looked after him with top dollar wages, Sean.

I'm struggling to think of any other Premier League manager who got a 10-year run without winning anything.

Services rendered?

Not sure you get to manage at the top level for 20+ years if you're " not a good manager", Sean. I don't think he's a great manager, but he certainly is a good one.

Anyway, at this moment in time, he's our manager, so whilst that remains the case, he'll get my full support (even if he drives me nuts sometimes).

Alan,

My apologies but the comment was meant for Andrew #71. I got my A's mixed up and I am Irish so it was a tongue-in-cheek comment.

Mark #78. I agree with all the questions you are posing despite taking my comments at the end of the piece as a stand-alone statement without referencing the context.

You seem to be advocating changes because you do not see European football as a possibility. I think it is too early to rule it out and therefore making those wholesale changes a high risk strategy.

If it were done and we lost a few games, TW would have a field day slating the manager for changing a winning team as happened in the past. If it does become clear over the next 4-5 games that we have no chance, then I would support your strategy.

Annika, I can only comment on the West Ham fans I met. Your experience is obviously very different and dare I say slightly biased against Moyes and a few more of the players.

Neil @ 88, why would my experience be anymore biased than yours?

I actually lived in Kent for many years, prior to retiring to the Philippines, and there are many West Ham fans in that part of the world. Including 2 of my cousins.

Now I am not sure where you currently live but I would doubt that you would encounter many Hammers fans if you live up North?

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.
